    No full text
This paper covers a new approach on Cloud Computing for Scientific Data Storage and Processing using a hybrid system with both on-site and on-the-cloud systems. The system analyzes use cases which are not resolved by either one of the single systems themselves.1881820,329Q

The Role and Modelling of Presynaptic Inhibition in the Visual Pathway: Applications in Image Processing

    No full text
Presynaptic Inhibition (PI) basically consists of the strong suppression of a neuron’s response before the stimulus reaches the synaptic terminals mediated by a second, inhibitory, neuron. It has a long lasting effect, greatly potentiated by the action of anaesthetics, that has been observed in motorneurons and in several other places of nervous systems, mainly in sensory processing. In this paper we will focus on several different ways of modelling the effect of PI in the visual pathway as well as the different artificial counterparts derived from such modelling, mainly in two directions: the possibility of computing invariant representations against general changes in illumination of the input image impinging the retina (which is equivalent to a low-level non linear information processing filter) and the role of PI as selector of sets of stimulae that have to be derived to higher brain areas, which, in turn, is equivalent to a “higher-level filter” of information, in the sense of “filtering” the possible semantic content of the information that is allowed to reach later stages of processing.454

    A General Purpouse Control System

    No full text
Industrial control applications are developed as ad hoc solutions. These solutions require specific programming and installation, and very often it takes large economic investments. We have developed a system that makes a special effort trying to offer versatility and a solution to a widespread of industrial installations. Our system understands an industrial plant as a compound of sensors, actuators and processes. The user will define its own processes, sensors and actuators. It will also be in his hand the design of the plants visualization diagram. In order to achieve this generalness it is of essence to offer a user interface as friendly as possible. Via a very intuitive user interface the implemented functionalities are far more powerful because the user understand them and makes use of them.11210

Real time vehicle recognition: a novel method for road detection

    No full text
Knowing the location of the road in an intelligent traffic systems is one of the most used solutions to ease vehicle detection. For this purpose we propose a vehicle recognition algorithm which performs a real time automatic detection of the zones which vehicles occupy. Such algorithm is capable of functioning under extreme conditions such as low resolution, low capture angle and gray scale images.Peer ReviewedPreprin

In order to play georeferenced videos, The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) is currently using a desktop-based software. In this paper, a port to a web-based video player is reviewed. In addition to its main advantages, new features are also discussed, such as the download of super-resolved frames.92870,329Q

On time non-homogeneous Feller-type diffusion process in neuronal modeling

    No full text
Time non-homogeneous Feller-type and Ornstein-Uhlenbeck diffusion processes are considered for modeling the neuronal activity in the presence of time-varying input signals. In particular, the first passage time (FPT) problem is analyzed for both processes and the averages of FPT through a constant boundary are compared for a constant input signal and for different choices of involved parameters

Desarrollo de aplicación web para la gestión de reservas de prácticas de autoescuela mediante un calendario online II

    No full text
Today driving instructors are increasingly becoming self-employed. In order to perform their work they need to have some organization by using a booking calendar so that each teacher manages their calendar independently and check their reservations easily. Planningtodrive was born with the aim of responding to this need. Planningtodrive is an initially to-be-used in the UK reservation management system for driving lessons which allows teachers to simplify their effort when using calendars. In addition, teachers can set offers, auctions, promotional codes, etc, as well as the possibility of negotiating reservation aspects such as the price or place of beginning and end of a driving lesson. Students who use Planningtodrive can make reservations for free slots, view the overall status of the schedule, negotiate fundamental aspects of the practice, claim the benefit of offers, auctions, etc. This project is the continuation of the final project in Computer Engineering from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria entitled "Development of a web application for reservation management for driving lessons through an online calendar" developed and defended by Juan Francisco García Baltar and tutored by Don Alexis Quesada Arencibia.159 p

Biologically Based CAST-mechanism for Visual Motion Analysis

    No full text
In this paper we present a working vision system for estimating size, location and motion of an object by using a set of randomly distributed receptive fields on a retina. The approach used here differs from more conventional ones in which the receptive fields are arranged in a geometric pattern. From the input level, computations are performed in parallel in two different channels: one for purely spatial properties, the other for time-space analysis, and are then used at a subsequent level to yield estimates of the size and center of gravity of an object and the speed and direction of motion. Movement analysis refining is implemented by a lateral interaction (spatial) and memory (temporal) schemes in which direction and speed are used to build a trajectory. The different parameters involved (receptive field size, memory weighting function, number of cells) are tested for different speeds and the results compared, yielding new insights on the functioning of the living retina and suggesting ideas for improving the artificial system.3273160,415Q

On a Non-homogeneous Gompertz-Type Diffusion Process: Inference and First Passage Time

    No full text
A stochastic diffusion model based on a generalized Gompertz deterministic growth in which the carrying capacity depends on the initial size of the population is considered. The growth parameter of the process is then modified by introducing a time-dependent exogenous term. The first passage time problem is considered and a two-step procedure to estimate the model is proposed. Simulation study is also provided for suitable choices of the exogenous term
