Grief after the child loss - virtual testimonies of mourning
Child's death is commonly viewed as the most difficult experience for its parents. This kind of loss and escalation of dismal emotions related to this event allows us to speak of suffering mental pain. Mourning for the loss of child differs significantly from other forms of bemoaning; time is rarely a great healer in this case and a sense of void often continues for the entire lifetime. The range of emotional relationship with the child is so strong that the child's death is oftentimes interpreted by the parents as the irreversible loss of a tiny part of themselves. The author scrutinizes in the article a few dozen of short movies commemorating children's deaths. The author is trying to pinpoint typical parents reactions against the pain, grief and suffering after their loss. The t(14;20) is a poor prognostic factor in myeloma but is associated with long term stable disease in MGUS
A large series of plasma cell dyscrasias (n=2207) was examined for translocations which deregulate the MAF genes, t(14;20)(q32;q12) and t(14;16)(q32;q23), and their disease behaviour was compared to a group characterised by the t(4;14)(p16;q32) where CCND2 is also up-regulated. The t(14;20) showed low prevalence in myeloma (27/1830, 1.5%) and smoldering myeloma (1/148, <1%) with a higher incidence in MGUS (9/193, 5% p=0.005). Strong associations with del(13) (76%), nonhyperdiploidy (83%) and gain of 1q (58%) were seen but no association with an IgA M-protein or absence of bone disease was noted. All three translocations were associated with poor outcome in myeloma, but strikingly all t(14;20) MGUS/smouldering myeloma cases (n=10) had stable, low level disease. In contrast, the 10 t(14;16) and 25 t(4;14), MGUS/smoldering myeloma cases were associated with both evolving and non-evolving disease. None of the associated genetic abnormalities helped to predict for progression from MGUS or smoldering myeloma
Uniwersytecka dydaktyka przekładu w Polsce i za granicą
Translation classes are getting more and more popular with university students. In the past, scholars did not consider pragmatic issues worthy of theoretical research. This situation has changed, however, mainly due to the process of globalisation in Europe. Prior to becoming engaged in translation teaching, the educational goal should be determined. Depending on the goal, an appropriate method of teaching translation should be applied to bring expected results, i.e. to produce a competent and proficient translator. The author is convinced that the selection of such method should be accompanied by the reflection on the type and kind of translation. Translators nowadays face numerous challenges, and in order to be able to solve these problems and difficulties successfully, it is necessary to cover them in the training process. The training process, therefore, should be diversified and multi-level.The results of translation research which constitute a significant part of linguistic research, may influence the way the nature of translation and instruction in this respect are perceived. The author stresses the fact that qualifications required of a professional translator should be well grounded theoretically. As an example of such a solution the author refers to the Interpreting Institute (Dolmetscherinstitut) in Saarbrucken and the Institutes in Germersheim and Heidelberg (Institut fur Ubersetzen und Dolmetschen der Ruprecht-Karls-Universitat). As a way of comparison, the author presents the model programme of studies worked out in the Heidelberg Institute and based on the types of training suggested by Kalusche. The author discusses as well a few selected translation training programmes implemented at several universities in Poland.Ćwiczenia z translatologii cieszą się wśród studentów szkół wyższych i uniwersytetów coraz większą popularnością. NORMA JĘZYKOWA I WARIANCJA JĘZYKOWA JAKO KRYTERIA FUNKCJI PREZENTACYJNEJ WYPOWIEDZI W TEKŚCIE SPECJALISTYCZNYM
In diesem Beitrag wird auf die Problematik der Varietät in der Sprachverwendung und ihre Auswirkungen auf die in einer Äußerung (Form) zu transportierenden Bedeutungen eingegangen. Dabei wird die Präsentationsfunktion der Sprache in den Vordergrund gerückt. Ich gehe von der Annahme aus, dass zwischen Sprachstruktur insbesondere im lexikalischen Bereich, ihrer Stabilität sowie den Bedingungen für ihre Aufhebung und deren Folgen, und der sozialen Struktur eine Kovariation besteht. Eine Methode zur Beobachtung dieser Kovariation kann meiner Meinung nach die Analyse von Äußerungen sein, also von kommunikativen Einheiten, die nach ihrem Verständigungszweck und nicht wie die Sätze nach ihrer Korrektheit zu bewerten sind. Unter den Bedeutungsfunktionen der Äußerungen interessiert mich besonders die Präsentationsfunktion und die Frage, welche sprachliche Form sie im Kommunikationsprozess annimmt. In meiner didaktischen Praxis unternahm ich den Versuch, die bestehenden theoretischen Vermutungen mit empirischen Belegen zu untermauern. Diesem Zweck diente das Experiment, das ich während des Übersetzungsunterrichts mit den Germanistikstudenten im Institut für Germanistik an der Universität Wrocław durchführte.This paper deals with the issue of variants in language use and its consequences for the meaning transfer. Special attention shall be paid to the presentative function of an utterance. The author assumes that there is a sort of interrelation between the lexical language structure, its stability, conditions for its disfluencies and consequences resulting therefrom as well as langauge social funcion. A method which may be used to observe this interrelation may be the utterance analysis (the analysisi of communication units focused on their communication aim and correctness). The author presents the results of an experiment carried out among the students of German studies at the University of Wroclaw.W niniejszym artykule zajmuję się zagadnieniem wariancji w użyciu języka i jego konsekwencjami dla przekazywanego w danej formie znaczenia ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem funkcji prezentacyjnej wypowiedzi. Wychodzę z założenia, że pomiędzy strukturą języka w zakresie leksykalnym, jej stabilnością oraz warunkami jej zaburzenia i jego konsekwencji oraz strukturą społeczną istnieje pewna wzajemna zależność. Metodą pozwalającą na zaobserwowanie tej wzajemnej zależności może być moim zdaniem analiza wypowiedzi, tzn. analiza jednostek komunikacyjnych, które oceniane są pod kątem celu porozumienia, a nie jak zdania pod kątem ich poprawności. Spośród funkcji znaczenia wypowiedzi interesuje mnie szczególnie funkcja prezentacyjna oraz to, jakie formy przyjmuje ona w procesie komunikacji. W pracy dydaktycznej podjąłem próbę podbudowania istniejących założeń teoretycznych materiałem empirycznym. Temu celowi służył eksperyment, który przeprowadziłem ze studentami germanistyki w Instytucie Germanistyki na Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim
