Afanasij Fet has been transferred into Italian, considering three books of his that appeared almost
simultaneously in 2012. From the analysis it emerges that all three editors of the books
(Alessandro Niero, Pia Dusi, and Stefano Garzonio) elaborated their translations adopting, to
varying degrees, strategies of archaization. These strategies can be traced back to three typologies:
(i) physiological and personal; (ii) deliberate and conscious; (iii) induced and inadvertent.
These typologies take into account various factors such as the will to mark in the target language
that Fet belongs to nineteenth century, the personal taste of the translators, the use of metre
and/or rhyme in their versions and some particularities of the editions

The examples concern: the use of rhymes in the poetry of Giovanni Giudici and in his Italian translation of Aleksandr Puškin’s Evgenij Onegin; the amount of rhetorical instrumentation used by Angelo Maria Ripel- lino when translating Vladimir Majakovskij’s Lenin; the way Mr. Cogito (a character created by the Polish poet Zbigniew Herbert) and the formal traditionalism of 20th century Russian poetry heavily influenced the poetry of the author of the article

The Great Absentee: Notes on the Italian reception of Twentieth-century Russian Poetry for children
Get PDFThe article offers a review of 20th century Russian children’s poetry trans- lated into Italian. Despite the fact that Russia can boast a great tradition of children’s literature in verse, the number of existing Italian translations is not very large and the authors translated are only some happy few. They are Vladimir Mayakovskiy, Osip Mandel’shtam, Boris Pasternak, Korney Chukovskiy and Samuil Marshak. Their not very many texts have mostly appeared for little publishers with scarce circulation. Attention to formal aspects has also not always been impeccable, and no Italian poet has sys- tematically devoted himself to elaborate Italian versions that could aspire to true aesthetic autonomy. This is why, in spite of some notable translations in recent times, we must continue to speak of Russian poetry for children as the great absentee on the Italian cultural scene
