    Sharing Sustainability

    No full text
The paper reports the results of a phase of the research Project “Sharing Mobility” developed by the authors at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples "Federico II". The thesis is that sharing mobility can positively affect sustainability of Mediterranean metropolitan areas if implemented on a multiscale-multimodal approach strongly linked with the existing public transport facilities. In order to verify the results and the applicability of the proposed procedural model to the Mediterranean cities, after a review of literature and best practices on sharing mobility, it was also envisaged the preparation of a pilot project for the Metropolitan Area of Naples. The results, in confirming the thesis, show that the Metropolitan Cities, recently implemented in Italian institutional framework, can efficiently implement and manage sharing mobility better than any other well established public authority or little municipality

Uncertainty and Business Cycle: a Review of the Literature and Some Evidence from the Spanish Economy

    No full text
The article reviews the main economic mechanisms which have been theorised when considering the uncertainty/economic activity nexus, as well as the methods by which uncertainty is commonly proxied through observable quantities. Some empirical evidence on the role of uncertainty in shaping macroeconomic fluctuations for the case of the Spanish economy is also presented. We document that uncertainty tends to reduce the level of economic activity in the short run, although traces of overshooting cannot be detected

Specialization and risk sharing in European regions

    No full text
Economic theory emphasizes that risk sharing makes it possible to exploit benefits from comparative advantages and economies of scale. An estimated regional-specific index of risk sharing is used as a covariate in a model of industrial specialization. Allowing for nonlinearities and spatial dependence, we show that industrial specialization is positively affected by risk-sharing measures even controlling for other relevant regressors

The Neapolitan Giambattista Basile is the author of the first written appearance of Cinderella in Europe in the “Pentamerone” (1634), a collection of fairy tales which included his version of Rapunzel, Puss in Boots, Sleeping Beauty and Hansel and Gretel. The tale revolves around Cinderella, called Zezolla, who commits murder and intimidates her father to reach her goals. This dark tale of Cinderella is reprised by Alessandro Rak and his animation studio Mad Entertainment in 2017, also influenced by De Simone’s “La Gatta Cenerentola” (1976), a theatrical adaptation of Basile’s tale. The story includes mafia, drug dealers, betrayals, death and ghosts

An optimization approach to Petri net monitor design

    No full text
This note addresses the problem of enforcing generalized mutual exclusion constraints on a Petri net plant. First, we replace the classical partition of the event set into controllable and uncontrollable events from supervisory control theory, by associating a control and observation cost to each event. This leads naturally to formulate the supervisory control problem as an optimal control problem. Monitor places which enforce the constraint are devised as a solution of an integer linear programming problem whose objective function is expressed in terms of the introduced costs. Second, we consider timed models for which the monitor choice may lead to performance optimization. If the plant net belongs to the class of mono-T-semiflow nets, we present an integer linear fractional programming approach to synthesize the optimal monitor so as to minimize the cycle time lower bound of the closed loop net. For strongly connected marked graphs the cycle time of the closed-loop net can be minimized
