Ideological Cynicism: Post-Marxist Analysis of Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice
The suffering of the Jews in Shakespeare’s time was not ideological in the classical Marxian definition (they do not know it, so they are doing it) but people’s attitudes towards the Jews underwent Zizek’s upgraded understanding, that of ideological cynicism (they know it, yet they are doing it). This new historical reading of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice proposes that antiSemitism, as a prevailing ideology, is multi-layered, because they do not believe in the Jews as proper sources of harm and threat, but as a minority who are easy to be blamed because of the society’s deteriorating factors. This paper depends on the post-Marxist theories of Slavoj Zizek, who proposes his theories depending on his Hegelian, Marxian, Freudian, and Lacanian readings. This topic is important to be further investigated because the majority of researchers neglect this cynical conditions in the ideology of the text. They take the ideology of the text seriously without looking beyond the borders of the text or intention of the writer. However, historical sources lack sufficient information concerning the cynical attitude of the people of the time towards the dominant ideology. This is reflected in the text. This paper compensated this lack with what is found in Shakespeares text regarding this issue. This paper seeks to find justifications to anti-Semitism ideology in Shakespeares text, which was falsely attached to the play.

Performance analysis of hybrid system of multi effect distillation and reverse osmosis for seawater desalination via modeling and simulation
YesThe coupling of thermal (Multi Stage Flash, MSF) and membrane processes (Reverse Osmosis, RO) in desalination systems has been widely presented in the literature to achieve an improvement of performance compared to an individual process. However, very little study has been made to the combined Multi Effect Distillation (MED) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) processes. Therefore, this research investigates several design options of MED with thermal vapor compression (MED_TVC) coupled with RO system. To achieve this aim, detailed mathematical models for the two processes are developed, which are independently validated against the literature. Then, the integrated model is used to investigate the performance of several configurations of the MED_TVC and RO processes in the hybrid system. The performance indicators include the fresh water productivity, energy consumption, fresh water purity, and recovery ratio. Basically, the sensitivity analysis for each configuration is conducted with respect to seawater conditions and steam supply variation. Most importantly, placing the RO membrane process upstream in the hybrid system generates the overall best configuration in terms of the quantity and quality of fresh water produced. Optimisation of multi effect distillation based desalination system for minimum production cost for freshwater
The multi effect distillation (MED) process has been extensively used for seawater desalination as a prominent process to produce high quality freshwater. However, the impact of number of effects in the MED process-based seawater desalination on the fresh water production cost has not been critically evaluated in the literature. Therefore, the aim of this study is to resolve this particular challenge via the simulation for a given seawater concentration and temperature conditions. The simulation is carried out using a comprehensive MED process model coupled with appropriate cost functions within gPROMS model builder software. The simulation results show that selecting the optimal number of the MED effects as 17 is important to achieve the lowest fresh water production cost for a given seawater operating conditions
Optimisation of multi effect distillation based desalination system for minimum production cost for freshwater via repetitive simulation
The shortage of fresh water resources is a global problem which requires a prompt solution. Thus, the multi effect distillation (MED) was successfully used for the production of fresh water from seawater. Despite the use of MED desalination system extensively, the influence of the number of effects on the fresh water production cost has not been covered in the open literature. Thus, this paper tries to rectify this specific challenge via simulation at given operating conditions of seawater salinity and temperature. The study is performed using a detailed mathematical model contains the suitable cost correlations. gPROMS model builder suite has been used to carry out an extensive simulation. The results of the study show that the lowest fresh water production cost can be achieved at an optimal number of effects of 17 for a certain operating conditions
Design and economic evaluation of solar-powered hybrid multi effect and reverse osmosis system for seawater desalination
YesReducing the cost of fresh water has always been a major concern in the desalination industry. A solar powered hybrid multi-effect distillation and reverse osmosis desalination plant (MED+RO) has been designed and optimised from an economical point of view in a previous work by the same authors. In the present study, the possibility of coupling the desalination plant with a photovoltaic (PV) solar farm is investigated, with the aim of generating electricity at low cost and in a sustainable way. A detailed mathematical model for the PV system has been implemented from the literature. Interestingly, the model can predict the cost of the PV system in terms of capital cost and electricity cost per kWh considering the input data of solar irradiation, duration of daylight and technical specification of a real solar module. Consequently, the solar PV model has been combined with the desalination model, which enables to estimate the cost of fresh water per cubic meter. Data about four locations, namely Isola di Pantelleria (IT), Las Palmas (ES), Abu Dhabi (UAE), and Perth (AUS), have been used to economically test the feasibility of installing the proposed plant, and especially of the PV solar farm.Reducing the cost of fresh water has always been a major concern in the desalination industry. English Learning Strategies Used By Male And Female Students Of Insan Cendekia Al Mujtaba Junior High School
This study focuses on English learning strategy at the eight grade of Insan Cendekia Al Mujtaba Junior High School. This study is aimed at describing the type of learning strategy, the dominant learning strategy, the similarities, the differences learning strategy used by male and female students at the eight grade of Insan Cendekia Al Mujtaba Junior High School.
This is a descriptive qualitative research. The subject of the study is the eight grade of Insan Cendekia Al Mujtaba Junior High School which consists of 50 students (25 male students and 25 female students). The methods of collecting data are observation, interview, questionnaire, and document analysis. In analyzing data, the writer uses an interactive model, namely the data reduction, the data display, and conclusion.
Based on the research finding, the type of learning strategies used by male and female students cover the six strategies proposed by Oxford, namely: memory strategy, cognitive strategy, compensation strategy, metacognitive strategy, affective strategy, and social strategy. The dominant learning strategy used by female students is metacognitive strategy and the dominant learning strategy used by male students is social strategy. The similarities of learning strategies used by male and female students are both of male and female students used metacognitive and social strategy and they did not use memory and cognitive strategy. Moreover, the differences of learning strategies are most of female students used affective strategy and did not use compensation strategy. However, male students mostly used compensation strategy and did not use affective strategy
Cost evaluation and optimisation of hybrid multi effect distillation and reverse osmosis system for seawater desalination
YesIn this research, the effect of operating parameters on the fresh water production cost of hybrid Multi Effect Distillation (MED) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) system is investigated. To achieve this, an earlier comprehensive model developed by the authors for MED + RO system is combined with two full-scale cost models of MED and RO processes collected from the literature. Using the economic model, the variation of the overall fresh water cost with respect to some operating conditions, namely steam temperature and steam flow rate for the MED process and inlet pressure and flow rate for the RO process, is accurately investigated. Then, the hybrid process model is incorporated into a single-objective non-linear optimisation framework to minimise the fresh water cost by finding the optimal values of the above operating conditions. The optimisation results confirm the economic feasibility of the proposed hybrid seawater desalination plant
Minimisation of Energy Consumption via Optimisation of a Simple Hybrid System of Multi Effect Distillation and Permeate Reprocessing Reverse Osmosis Processes for Seawater Desalination
Multi Effect Distillation (MED) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) processes have been expansively explored for fresh water production from seawater resources. Interestingly, the performance indicators including energy consumption of different proposed arrangements of hybrid system of MED and RO processes have been analysed in a previous study by the same authors. This in turn has explored the feasibility of a simple design of permeate reprocessing RO process and MED process of hybrid system that corresponding the lowest energy consumption compared to other experienced arrangements of hybrid system. However, this design still operated at a significantly high level of energy utilisation measured in kWh per m3 of produced water. In this research, the lowest possible energy consumption of the chosen hybrid system is investigated via the embedment of an optimisation framework in the same author's previous operation model for the same design. Occasionally, the optimisation problem is framed as a Nonlinear Programming problem to locate the optimal control variables of the associated RO process within their upper and lower limits to achieve the main objective function. This in turn has resulted in mitigating the total energy utilisation of the hybrid system with satisfying a constraint of high-quality produced water
Meningkatkan Keterampilan Menulis Hasil Observasi Menggunakan Teknik Pohon Faktor Dalam Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di Kelas X SMA Nu Al Fudloli Ganjaran Gondanglegi Malang Tahun Pelajaran 2018/2019
Writing is one of the language skills used to communicate indirectly. Writing skills cannot come automatically without regular practice. Based on observation, writing is a difficult activity for some students. This can be seen in the learning activities of writing observations in class X of Al Fudloli NU high school which is still lacking. The use of the factor tree technique is one technique whose implementation is the same as the spider web technique. The technique is only to write the main ideas or keywords to be developed into written observations in the form of paragraphs. The application of this technique begins with dividing groups, assigning each group to make observations outside the classroom, and developing the results in the classroom. The purpose of this research are: (1) describe the results of writing observations of class X students of Al Fudloli NU High School, (2) describe the application of factor tree learning techniques in writing observations, and (3) describe student learning outcomes in writing observations using factor tree techniques in Indonesian subjects in class X of Al Fudloli NU High School. Based on the results of this class action research it can be concluded: (1) pre-cycle there are 5 students who get grades in accordance with KKM and 15 students get grades below KKM or only 25% are in accordance with KKM and 75% who are under KKM, (2) the application of the factor tree technique that is by looking for the main ideas first then finding derivatives or sub-subjects that are in the shade of the main ideas, then developing the main ideas and sub-topics into sentences and combining them into paragraphs, (3) The results in the first cycle increased in value from 20 students 12 students got grades in accordance with KKM and 8 students were still below KKM. Thus it can be concluded that the writing skills of the results of initial observations of class X students have increased by 35%, initially only 25% of students who were in accordance with KKM. In the first cycle there are 60% of students who are in accordance with KKM, with an average grade of 69.5. The results of the second cycle increased in value from 20 students to 20 students got grades in accordance with KKM. Thus it can be concluded that writing skills from the observations of class X students have increased by 40%, initially only 60% of students were in accordance with KKM on the first cycle, and there were 100% of students who were in accordance with KKM in the second cycle with an average grade 84.25. Thus the application of the factor tree technique can improve writing skills of students' observations
The Aleph and the Real: an Examination of Borges' Short Story Through Slavoj Zizek's Psychoanalytic Theory
This research paper examines the concept of the Real, as proposed by Slavoj Zizek, through the study of The Aleph by Jorge Luis Borges. This short story best represents this idea of the Real as intended by the Slovenian philosopher. Yet, Borges displays the idea of the Real through a mystical perspective, whereas Zizek tends lean on psychoanalytical perspectives. Once the short story is read through Zizek, we can perceive a new interpretation of the text. Otherwise, the transformative process after encountering the Aleph remains ambiguous and irrelevant. A similar idea of this transformation is also represented in many religious readings of the concept of God. This paper tends to study this idea of the Real through the psychoanalytic theory of Slavoj Zizek. His theory makes a long journey through Sigmund Freud and Jacque Lacan. The objective of this study is to have a new understanding of the ideas that undergo ambiguities and misunderstanding, including the idea of unseen powers that dominate our life
