Burcu/0000-0002-1880-1047WOS: 000370822700026PubMed: 26879855Paraoxonase (PON) is a key enzyme in metabolism of living organisms and decreased activity of PON1 was acknowledged as a risk for atherosclerosis and organophosphate toxicity. The present study describes the synthesis, characterization, PON1 inhibitory properties and molecular docking studies of functionalized imidazolium and benzimidazolium salts (1a-5g). The structures of all compounds were elucidated by IR, NMR, elemental analysis and structures of compounds 2b and 2c were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1c, a coumarin substituted imidazolium salt showed the best inhibitory effect on the activity of PON1 with good IC50 value (6.37 mu M). Kinetic investigation was evaluated for this compound and results showed that this compound is competitive inhibitor of PON1 with K-1, value of 2.39 mu M. Molecular docking studies were also performed for most active compound 1c and one of least active compound 2c in order to determine the probable binding model into active site of PON1 and validation of the experimental results. Exploring Pre-service Language Teachers⿿ Perceptions and Actual Practices of Giving Feedback in Micro-teaching

    No full text
AbstractFeedback has considerably been acknowledged as a significant component of language teaching. Although there are several studies on the effectiveness of giving feedback to pre-service language teachers to improve their teaching practices by their instructors or their peers, the actual feedback provided by them during their micro-teaching practices has not received adequate attention. Therefore, the aim is twofold: to investigate the perceptions of pre-service language teachers regarding their oral feedback providing practices during their micro-teaching implementations, and to carry out content analysis of their micro-teaching practices to determine the frequency and variety of the feedback provided by them during their micro-teaching practices. The study was carried out with 40 pre-service language teachers at Sakarya University. An open ended questionnaire with eight questions was employed in order to determine pre-service language teachers⿿ perceptions. For the actual practices, pre-service language teachers were asked to video record their micro-teachings, and two researchers watched them. The findings of the study have not been finalized yet. With the current study, similarities and differences between pre-service language teachers⿿ perceptions and their actual practices will be investigated

Ankara : İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent Üniversitesi İktisadi, İdari ve Sosyal Bilimler Fakültesi, Tarih Bölümü, 2018.This work is a student project of the Department of History, Faculty of Economics, Administrative and Social Sciences, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University. The History of Turkey course (HIST209) is a requirement for all Bilkent undergraduates. It is designed to encourage students to work in groups on projects concerning any topic of their choice that relates to the history of Turkey. It is designed as an interactive course with an emphasis on research and the objective of investigating events, chronologically short historical periods, as well as historic representations. Students from all departments prepare and present final projects for examination by a committee, with 10 projects chosen to receive awards. George E. White, an ABCFM missionary who worked for 43 years in Turkey, wrote extensively about his experiences. Through the lens of his writings and other secondary literature, this paper aims to establish that missionary activity in the Ottoman Empire played a divisive role on the Ottoman society. Missionary focus on the elevation of the Christian peoples living in Ottoman Turkey exacerbated the tensions between the Turkish and Armenian people. Furthermore, prejudiced missionary writings, widely circulated in the Western media, helped shape a biased public opinion in the West (in favor of the Armenians and against the Turks) on narrow-minded grounds of religion and civilization.by Burcu Feyzullahoğlu

Determination of rate parameters of complex reactions by polymath

    No full text
Özdemir, Burcu (Dogus Author)Generally, consecutive and/or parallel reactions pose a great deal of difficulty in determining meaningful reaction rate parameters. One way to determine such parameters is to separate the whole reaction network into different regions and to study each region independently through initial rates. This method is not only tedious, but also a waste of money and time. The other method is to use the fact that, if the reaction rates are known at any "t" time then an optimization technique in MATLAB, MATHCAD, LINDO or POLYMATH ready package programs can be used to determine rate parameters. In this study, the POLYMATH program is chosen for a highly complex rate expression for the reaction of, with Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic expression, Rate parameters k, K CO, K H2 and K CH3OH were determined
