Chocolate milk has been shown to be the effective recovery beverage for muscle recovery in muscular endurance exercise. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of chocolate milk for muscle recovery in muscular endurance performance. A total of 15 subjects (N = 15) from 19 years old to 21 years old (M=19.4, SD=0.632) were chosen via simple random sampling to participate in this study. This study was using cross sectional design, pre and post design with chocolate milk as study treatment. Push up until fatigue have been conducted to measure the effectiveness of chocolate milk for muscle recovery. Using the paired sample t-test, the result showed that there was a significant effect of chocolate milk for muscle recovery in muscular endurance performance (M = -8.533, SD = .632, P = .000). As a conclusion, chocolate milk has muscle recovery properties and showed that similar quality as others recovery beverage

Taxonomic significance of spermoderm pattern in Cucurbitaceae

    No full text
Studies on spermoderm using scanning electron microscope (SEM) were undertaken in 12 taxa under 11 genera of the family Cucurbitaceae sampled from India, China and Korea. The spermoderm pattern in the studied taxa varies from rugulate, reticulate to colliculate type. The spermoderm shows rugulate type in Benincasa hispida and Sicyos angulatus; reticulate type in Citrullus colocynthis, Cucumis melo var. agrestis, Diplocyclos palmatus, Hemsleya longivillosa, Luffa echinata, Momordica charantia, M. cymbalaria, Schizopepon bryoniifolius, and Trichosanthes cucumerina; and colliculate type in Gynostemma laxiflorum. The present study clearly reveals that the testa features greatly varies across the genera which can be used as micromorphological markers for identification as well as character states for deducing relationship of the taxa within the family.open

Highly versatile p(MAc)-M (M: Cu, Co, Ni) microgel composite catalyst for individual and simultaneous catalytic reduction of nitro compounds and dyes

    No full text
Poly(methacrylic acid) (p(MAc)) microgels were synthesized by inverse suspension polymerization and used as a template for copper, nickel, and cobalt nanoparticle preparation. Upon absorption of Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) by p(MAc) microgels from related aqueous solutions, the metal ion laden microgels were treated with sodium borohydride (NaBH4) to obtain the corresponding metal nanoparticles within the p(MAc) network as p(MAc)-M (M: Co, Ni, Cu). The microgels and metal nanoparticle containing composites were visualized and analyzed by Optical Microscopy, SEM, and TEM analysis. Thermal properties and the metal nanoparticle content of the prepared composites were investigated by TG analysis. However, the exact amounts of metal nanoparticles entrapped within the microgels was calculated by AAS measurements after dissolution of the metal nanoparticles within p(MAc) the microgel composites by concentrated HCl acid treatment. The prepared p(MAc)-M composites were employed as a catalyst for the degradation of some organic dyes such as Eosin Y (EY), and methyl orange (MO), and reduction of nitro aromatic pollutants such as 2-nitrophenol (2-NP), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), 4-nitroaniline (4-NA) to their corresponding amino phenols. More importantly, we report the simultaneous degradation of EY and 4-NP reduction catalyzed by p(MAc)-Cu microgel composites. Various parameters effecting the degradation of dyes and nitro compound reduction such as metal types, and their amounts, temperature and amount of reducing agent were investigated.King Saud University; Deanship of Scientific Research, Research Chair; Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey [110642]; Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) [2216]This project was supported by King Saud University, Deanship of Scientific Research, Research Chair.
