    Italian Language in the Adult Class - Didactic Unit for Adults

    This paper aims to address foreign language and Italian respectively of the adult classes. Teaching in classes with adults is radically different from teaching in classrooms with children and teenage, this occur because students typology to teach is quite another. Teaching adults is a topic which is not studied enough because the teaching for this age group is often taken for granted. So, while teaching children and adolescents we can find countless of studies that adults age does not enjoy this privilege. The branch that deals with the study of teaching adults is Andragogy. Teaching adults depends on many factors, as an adult that has a formative his own bag round which certainly we cannot overlook. Adults also need to be clarified about the objectives of teaching, because they need to know the values that will have the information that they would take in a certain course. In a language class with adults it has a great importance the role of teacher too. He is not the pedagogical teacher but andragogic hence its formation must be such that it should recognize quite well each method, technique of teaching adults. Our paper aims to provide also a didactic unit in order to provide a practical approach to language teaching, near adult classes taking into account the psychology age their requirements and their needs</jats:p

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Enhancing listening skills: issues and possible solutions

    The paper aims to investigate the extent to which listening skills development is realized in Italian language classes in Albanian pre-university education as one of the basic skills naturally interconnected comprehension and production. The research at hand is the first of this nature conducted in Albanian schools. The issues encountered in the development of this skill have been verified in our teaching experience; It has been noticed that students enrolled in the first-year encounter difficulties related to listening skills. Therefore, this study was considered as important and the relevant questionnaires were compiled. Following the collection of information, its analysis, and interpretation, possible suggestions were sought considering the encountered issues. The study revealed that this skill is underutilized or not utilized properly, as it is often not considered as a required skill. Students are limited to reading or listening skills only, delivered either by the teachers in class or through the few exercises provided by the foreign language book, without employing various strategies or techniques for its development and without using relevant authentic materials

    Glotodidactics, based on the central role of the student, suggests that teacher select didactic concepts that lead to the improvement of knowledge of the language being studied. Observing students' behaviors enables the acquisition of cognitive competences about study skills, strategies and features in learning. Today, learners’ independence is given great importance in the teaching process. In order to achieve this objective, the instructor’s contribution is fundamental; the instructor must act to determine and develop, in cooperation with the student, the mechanisms and approaches, such as learning strategies, but also the selection of appropriate tools. The use of the Internet offers various alternatives for the acquisition of new linguistic inputs, respecting the peculiarities and personal strategies in learning. This study analyzes manners and objectives that can be achieved in the acquisition of the Italian language through activities developed on the Internet, matching individual strategies or characteristic features that are applied in learning a foreign language

    THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE TOOLS ON ACADEMIC WRITING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

    Artificial intelligence (AI) tools have become increasingly sophisticated in recent years, providing new ways for students to improve their writing ability. These tools can help with tasks such as grammar and spell-checking, generating topic ideas, and even offering suggestions for improvements in style and structure. The effects of such tools on users and students writing ability have been the subject of recent research, with some studies indicating positive outcomes. The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools has transformed various aspects of education, particularly in academic writing. This study investigates the impact of AI-assisted writing tools on university students' writing skills, focusing on areas such as grammar, structure, vocabulary, coherence, and critical thinking. Using a quasi-experimental research design, the study evaluates students' writing performance on utilizing AI tools. The research involved 30 university students enrolled in Business English language courses at University of Tirana, Albania. The findings of the research provide insights to educators navigating the integration of Artificial Intelligence tools into writing curricula while maintaining instructional quality and academic integrity standards in Albania, and not only. However, the study also reveals concerns about over-reliance on AI, which may hinder the development of students' critical thinking and original writing abilities. Student feedback indicates that AI tools are generally seen as beneficial for refining writing but should be used as supplements rather than replacements for independent writing efforts. This study contributes to understanding the role of AI in higher education writing and provides recommendations for educators, students, and policymakers on the ethical and effective use of AI tools in academic contexts

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
