Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Levulinic Acid Production: Comparative Assessment of Al-Rich Ordered Mesoporous Silica and Microporous Zeolite

In this work, the formation of levulinic acid (LA) as one of the top-twelve chemical building blocks from glucose was studied. In particular, the formulations of heterogeneous acid catalysts based on SBA-15, MCM-41 mesoporous silica was carried out and their performance in catalytic conversion of glucose to LA were assessed and compared with commercial H-Beta-25 (SiO2/Al2O3 = 25) microporous zeolite. The high surface area, suitable porosity, balanced acid sites were considered as the main factors of a proper catalytic performance. Thus, essential modification of mesoporous SBA-15 and MCM-41 materials was carried out by introducing Al in their structures for Lewis acid sites improvement. Alumina was introduced to SBA-15 by post synthesis evaporation impregnation method while it was embedded inside the MCM-41 mesoporous material during the synthesis. In addition, Bronsted acidity was introduced via post-synthesis grafting of sulfonic acid groups. The textural and morphological features and acidity of the materials were investigated using N-2 physisorption, SEM, EDX, TEM, XRD and pyridine-FTIR. All catalysts were tested for aqueous glucose conversion in an autoclave at 180 degrees C. Al-MCM-SO3H has shown the best performance with 54% of LA yield after 4 h reaction. According to Py-FTIR introduction of alumina and sulfonic acid groups improved weak and medium Lewis and Bronsted acid sites. However, the Bronsted to Lewis acid site ratio (B/L) was higher for Al-MCM-SO3H compared to SBA-Al-SO3H leading the reaction pathway to LA. H-Beta-25 zeolite displayed a poor performance because of harsh medium and strong acid sites catalyzing humins formation.[GRAPHICS

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Influence of Cu:Fe ratio in synthesis of higher alcohols from syngas over CuFeCoK/attapulgite catalysts

Synthesis of higher alcohols from syngas (H2:CO ratio 2 and 1) was performed at 225–300 °C and 30 bar over copper, iron and cobalt containing catalysts supported on attapulgite and promoted with potassium. The Cu:Fe ratio was varied to study its influence on the syngas conversion and product distribution. It was found that while the copper rich catalyst 17Cu3FeCoK/attapulgite resulted in higher selectivity to the undesired alkanes with methane as the major one, the iron rich 3Cu17FeCoK/attapulgite was more selective towards alkenes. Selectivity to CO2 was independent on the Cu:Fe ratio tested in this work. With the higher H2:CO ratio (i.e. 2) selectivity to the liquid products increased with the increasing iron content. Moreover, a higher iron content in the catalyst improved formation of higher alcohols while the α-value reflecting the chain growth probability was more or less independent on the catalyst type.peerReviewe

Näiden lisäksi käytössä on haastattelupohja, jonka perusteella haastattelin kolmea yhtyeeni jäsentä konkreettisen palautteen keräämiseksi. In this thesis, I look at the stages of my professional studies in music from starting to present. I have analyzed the formation of my first own band. My thesis explores the origins of that project, the different stages of it’s work and their results, and the possible future. I reflect on my composing process from the guitarist’s point of view, and I explore the musical connections between my own instrument practicing, improvisation and composing. During the writing of this thesis, I have learned to analyze and observe myself as a musician, composer and a band leader. Making my own music and leading a band have helped me to develop myself as a musician and to develop my weaknesses and strengthen my strengths. I also reflect on how to be a first-time band leader and what makes the band easier to operate. Finally, I go through the things I’ve learned during this period, what would I do differently and what I seek in the future. As a basis for my thesis, I have used the experiences and advice I’ve gotten from my guitar lessons, as well as my own insights, written source material, and the recording of my band’s first concert in June 2019. In addition to these, I have interviewed the three members of my band to gather concrete feedback from my leadership and music

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
