Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
JOHN DRYDEN’S UNSTABLE PSYCHOLOGICAL LIFE AND HIS TENDENCY TO SIDE WITH THE WINNING PARTY IN THE RESTORATION PERIOD
Get PDFThis study focuses on describing John Dryden’s unstable psychological life which always take sides and defends the winning parties. The explication of his works that shows his allegiance to the winning sides is also included here. The objectives of the study are aimed at: (1) explaining how John Dryden wins fame, especially in the literature so that he converted his faith from Protestant or as a puritanist to Catholics; and (2) investigating why John Dryden always defends to the winning sides which lead him to have obscure enemies in the Restoration Period. The method of the study is the library research. The primary sources used in this study stem from some texts books. The secondary sources are obtained from the internet. The analysis shows: (1) what drives Dryden to do everything to obtain his success is of his unstable psychological life. When Charles II comes to the throne, Dryden throws himself to get patronage from the king by presenting his masterpieces which are full of praises and by converting his faith from Protestant to Catholics to prove his allegiance; and (2) Dryden, a Puritan poet, in Cromwell’s iron government, has many obscure enemies from the Charles II literary men. They fight against each other by publishing or attaching their anonymous works of art in certain places in which other people can read easily. After Charles II is successful to win the conflict, Dryden has to surrender to his enemies. He decides to refuse allegiance to his struggling friends of the Puritan and devotes himself to Charles II to pursue the patronage and to fulfil his basic needs
PRACTICALITY TEST OF “STEPPING THE 5 STAIRS A TECHNIQUE†ON GRAMMAR FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS: RASCH MODEL ANALYSIS

Unlike other applications, Rasch model application can analyze research data as it is. It can also dismiss researchers’ hubbub and anxiety. This application is used to analyze research instrument on development of a teaching technique on grammar for college students. The objective of this research is to analyze practicality test instrument used in research and development on grammar technique, “Stepping the 5 Stairs A†for college students by using Rasch model. This research was descriptive quantitative. The setting of this research was in a university in Riau Isle and was conducted in May 2018. The first-year students of English Education in 2017/2018 academic year became the research subject. This research results that the analysis of the practicality test instrument by using Rasch model shows the above average logit item (+0.00 logit) emphasizing participants’ approval on the quality of the instrument. Different perspectives which participants give through the instrument fulfilment describe their present conditions which are necessary to have further investigation in this research

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
How Does Rasch Model Reveal Dishonesty between Coastal Students and Easy Grammar Test?
Get PDFAcademic dishonesty can occur with the supports of the technology devices and it also can be prevented with the help of the technology with its applications like Rasch Model. It can give detail information of the analyzed data and can trace the academic dishonesty like cheating. The aims of this research are to (1) analyze the grammar test items whether they are difficult items or easy ones using Rasch Model, (2) know the percentage of those who are assumed to do cheating based upon their origins and sex, and (3) expose their patterns in working on the grammar test in the form of multiple choice through the Rasch Model analysis. The researcher hypothesized that the academic dishonesty i.e. cheating was undergone by students who are from rural and urban areas of Riau Archipelago Province. The results of this research were: (1) through the students’ responses analyzed by Rasch Model, the grammar test was for medium ability, (2) The Rasch Model revealed that the percentage came to the number 5.71% or 4 of 70 students who were identified to cheat while working on the grammar test. They were two female students from rural area and the other two male students from urban area, and (3) The Rasch Model revealed that their responses did not represent their ability. The Rasch Model has helped the researcher to exposes the cheating deeds on exams. The practitioners just need methods, approaches, strategies, techniques, and media to prevent them in the future

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
