    Near field magnetic induction communication link budget: Agbinya-Masihpour model

    Even though the link budget for the traditional Radio Frequency-based (RF) communication systems has been explored widely and various RF-channel models have been proposed, neither of those models deal with the Magnetic Induction Communication Systems (NFMIC), which is emerging as a highly advantageous physical layer access method in short range communications. Hence, in this paper we have proposed a NFMIC channel model for the very first time; we call this model Agbinya-Masihpour NFMIC channel model. Based on the proposed model, we have simulated the communication system and examined how the ferrite-cored coil improves the communication range. The simulation results have shown that the permeability of the core material has a crucial impact on enhancing the communication range also reducing the antenna size. ©2010 Crown

Cellular net-works are uncertain and dynamic in their behaviours and therefore we use different artificial intelligent techniques to develop platform independent, autonomous, reasoning and robust agents that can report on any unforeseen anomaly within the cellular network service provider. The specific design and implementation is done using Java Agent DE-velopment Framework (JADE). The partial results ob-tained from the experiments conducted are presented and discussed in this paper

    The recent years have seen an increase in identity fraud and accessing online services when communication devices such as computers, mobile phones and card based credentials (e.g. credit cards) are involved. This has prompted most governments and business organizations to change the way they do business and manage the user s identity information. However Internet users are vulnerable to identity fraud, which is on the increase and costing the global economy excessive amounts. With the advent of wireless technologies, peer-to-peer communication, GSM networks, it is becoming more challenging to build systems to authenticate users more efficiently. Traditional methods of authenticating a user with passwords and PIN numbers only are slowly proving ineffective since these credentials are easy to guess and steal. This paper proposes a distributed multimodal authentication system as a solution for managing digital identity information on most wireless networks. The proposed system uses artificial intelligence methods and biometrics to improve the security and privacy of users and service providers in a transparent, reliable and efficient way. A multi-modal digital identity management system is proposed as a solution for managing digital identity information in an effort to reduce the cases of identity fraud and theft seen on most online services today. The proposed system thus uses technologies such as artificial intelligence and biometrics on the current unsecured networks to maintain the security and privacy of users and service providers in a transparent, reliable and efficient way. In order to be authenticated in the proposed multi-modal authentication system, a user is required to submit more than one credential attribute. An artificial intelligent technology is used to implement a technique of information fusion to combine the user’s credential attributes for optimum recognition. The information fusion engine is then used to implement the required multi-modal authentication system

    LGBTI variations in crime reporting: how sexual identity influences decisions to call the cops

    Research shows that people vary in their willingness to report crime to police depending on the type of crime experienced, their gender, age, and their race or ethnicity. Whether or not lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) and heterosexual people vary in their willingness to report crime to the police is not well understood in the extant literature. In this article, I examine variations in LGBTI respondents' attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on their intentions to report crimes to the police. Drawing on a survey of LGBTI individuals sampled from a Gay Pride community event and online LGBTI community forums (N = 329), I use quantitative statistical methods to examine whether LGBTI people's beliefs in police homophobia are also directly associated with the behavioral intention to report crime. Overall, the results indicate that LGBTI and heterosexual people differ significantly in their intention to report crime to the police, and that a belief in police homophobia strongly influences LGBTI people's intention to underreport crime to the police
