Improvise interface design of UTHM academic online resources e-learning system (author) / Azizul Zamri Muhamed Amin
Education is very important especially in these challenging times. Various technologies day by day are growing, also the current educational technology. If in the past the traditional delivery of education there should be a lecturer in front and students listened to what the lecturer presented orally. Now keeping pace with technology education where knowledge is delivered not only in accordance with the timetable in the classroom, but can also be delivered on-line and accessible regardless of time and place restrictions call as blended learning techniques. Blended learning is used to deliver knowledge among technology websites, videos, interactive cd, multimedia equipment and many more. The availability of this technology has triggered a variety of learning techniques such as blended learning. There are so many systems that can can support learning techniques process such as Online Academic Online Resources (AUTHOR), an e-learning system used by UTHM. A learning management system must be developed with creativity and innovative features in terms of interface design and system capability to ensure the effectiveness of the system for lecturers and students. Therefore the purpose of this study is to find out why lecturers and students at the Faculty Of Computer Science and Information Technology, UTHM are not fully utilized this e-learning system (AUTHOR). The findings shows that through the development of a workable prototype with improvise interface design using blended learning concept can be applied in this e-learning system (AUTHOR). Hopefully with this improvised interface design will attract the lecturers and students more to fully utilized this system in the future

E-cadherin mechanotransduction beyond cell-cell junctions
Cadherins and integrin receptors form crucial extracellular adhesive connections with, respectively, adjacent cells and the extracellular matrix, and transduce mechanical signals across cell membranes. The role of adhesive complexes in diseases, cardiomyopathies, atherosclerosis, cancer, stem cell fate and morphogenesis has shed light on the importance of these adhesive complexes in human physiology.
Results presented in this thesis identified biochemical processes and signal transduction pathways in cadherin-based mechanotransduction. In this thesis, I investigated the role of E-cadherin in mechanotransduction, using modified Magnetic Twisting Cytometry (MTC) and Traction Force Microscopy (TFM) coupled with fluorescence imaging. A major focus of Chapter 2 is the role of a cadherin-associated protein α-catenin in force transduction. MTC and TFM studies using α-catenin knockdown cells and knockdown cells rescued with α-catenin mutants demonstrated unambiguously that α-catenin enhances cadherin-mediated traction generation and force sensing. Additionally, I identified the minimal extracellular cadherin domain required for cell-cell adhesion and “outside-in” activation of traction generation and cell spreading.
Studies in Chapter 3, which combined MTC and TFM, identified a new E-cadherin mechanotransduction mechanism, in addition to the mechanism supported by α-catenin. This new mechanism is not confined to cadherin junctions alone, but triggers signals that globally alter cell mechanics and perturb distal focal adhesions. Using specific fluorescent reporters and chemical inhibitors, we defined key events in the specific signaling pathway that links E-cadherin force transduction to global changes in cell contractility. These findings expand the current E-Cadherin mechanotransduction model, beyond cell-cell junctions, and elucidate an additional mechanism that integrates integrins with E-cadherin based mechanotransduction. Health consultation, investigation of carbon monoxide exposure from recreational watercraft : Lake Pleasant Regional Park, Maricopa County, Arizona
abstract: The Arizona Department of Health Services conducted a carbon monoxide exposure survey among recreational boaters at the Maricopa County Lake Pleasant Regional Park during the 2003 Labor Day weekend. To investigate the extent that recreational boaters are exposed to carbon monoxide from a variety of watercraft, ADHS measured exhaled carbon monoxide to determine the amount of carboxyhemoglobin (COHb) present in their blood. To determine whether a widespread public health hazard exists because of carbon monoxide exposure from watercraft, the ADHS health consultation, "Investigation of Carbon Monoxide Exposure, Rotary Beach at the London Bridge, Lake Havasu, Arizona, May 25-26, 2003", recommended conducting further biomonitoring studies at other recreational lakes in Arizona.
ADHS asked the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), under its Cooperative Agreement Program with ADHS, to interpret data from the Lake Pleasant survey and to determine whether carbon monoxide exposure is a public health hazard among recreational boaters at Lake Pleasant.Under cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Service, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, Division of Health Assessment and Consultation.Includes bibliographical references (p. 7)
A synthesis of theoretical and empirical research on sukuk
AbstractThis paper provides a critical review of the theoretical and empirical literature on sukuk (Shari'ah-compliant bonds) from three perspectives: their underlying theory and nature, the operational issues and structures involved in sukuk, and the role of sukuk in economic development. The article suggests that the literature on sukuk is largely qualitative rather than quantitative research, with the bulk of academic research in the form of conference and seminar papers. The research on sukuk in the form of journal articles, books, conference papers, reports, and magazines has increased substantially, but it is still in relatively short supply in comparison to other research on Islamic finance. This underdeveloped state of research on sukuk is mainly due to a lack of historical, reliable, and consistent data; a limited number of academic institutions dedicated to Islamic economics and finance; the small number of high-quality refereed journals as potential outlets for Islamic finance research; the unresolved concept of sukuk among Shari'ah scholars; and the absence of a global standard and accreditation for Islamic finance courses
