Florence Omada Ocheme, Hakeem Adewale Sulaimon and Adamu Abubakar Isah
Cancer classification research is one of the significant areas of exploration in the clinical field. Exact forecasting of various tumor types is an extraordinary challenge and giving an exact forecast will have incredible worth in giving better treatment to the patients. In recent years, many analysis-based investigations have led to the revelation of information on disease subtypes, that has generated high throughput innovations Lately, researchers have attempted to dissect a lot of microarray information for getting significant data that can be utilized in malignancy grouping. To accomplish this objective, one can utilize K-Nearest Neighbor, Neural Networks, Decision Tree, Support Vector a that would provide approaches needed to break down microarray information towards the choice of best separating quality called biomarker. These machine learning methodologies had the inherent ability to represent the time varying behavior of the underlying biological network that allows for a better representation of spatiotemporal input-output dependencies. Therefore, the exploitation of time series data regarding deep learning has to have become a valuable strategy for deciphering stochastic processes, such as gene expression and classification. Therefore, in this study, another intriguing strategy is introduced to improve the performance of neural networks utilizing deep autoencoder neural networks. This was accomplished through the choice of the first, relevant data, which was being extracted with a Deep Neural Network hidden layer used to train an autoencoder for the classification of the cancer malignancy based on the second stack autoencoder network. The outcome from the proposed experiment was evaluated with the current techniques. Overall, the proposed deep autoencoder accomplished classification accuracy of 99.2% as against the current Modified KNN and SVM which obtained 96.1% and 98.1% respectively
Utilisation of audiovisual aids in the teaching and learning of business studies in secondary schools in Lagos State, Nigeria
The paper examined the utilisation of audiovisual aids in teaching and learning business studies in junior secondary schools in the Ojo local government area of Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design of survey type. A sample of 60 teachers was selected purposively. data collected were analysed using descriptive statistics to answer research questions, while a t-test was used to analyse the hypotheses. The finding revealed a significant difference between teachers’ qualifications, gender, and availability of audiovisual aids and their use by business studies teachers in secondary schools in Lagos State. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that the government give more priority to the enhancement of teachers\u27 job performance through adequate provision of audiovisual instructional aids, and principals should supervise teachers in the classroom to ensure compliance with the use of available audiovisual instructional aids.
A Systematic Review of Leadership Strategies for Enhanced Technology Usage Among Teachers in Secondary Schools
Despite the inestimable benefits of technology use in the 21st century, there is still an apparent digital divide in technology use based on gender in all spheres of life. The onus of this study is to systematically review relevant strategies adopted by secondary school leaders to achieve enhanced technology acceptance and usage, especially among female teachers. Also, to determine its implications for education leadership and management. With the aid of the PRISMA protocol, 499 articles identified were painstakingly analysed. These articles were obtained from Scopus and Web of Science Digital bases. Only 20 articles that fulfilled the relevance and quality eligibility criteria were included in the review for analysis. It was found that there was a paucity of studies on leadership strategies adopted by secondary school principals to enhance technology usage among teachers in secondary schools. Similarly, eight leadership strategies were identified as the common ones among secondary school principals to integrate and enhance technology usage in their various schools globally. This study uniquely assembled various exemplified strategies for technology integration, which will likely be helpful for school leaders who are yet to successfully integrate technology usage into the hearts of teachers in their various schools
Repositioning technical and vocational education and training in Africa for global competitiveness: a bilingual model
This paper aims to reposition technical and vocational education and training in Africa by modelling the Chinese and Asian Tigers’ bilingual approach. This study used inductive content analysis cum transformative paradigm to identify relevant points constituting the major component of this conceptual paper. In addition, thematic method was also used to organize the identified points into categories and sub-categories. The introduction of the bilingualism approach to TVET programs following eight key stages will be actualised. Researchers are encouraged to conduct experimental empirical studies on Bilingualism in African TVET institutions, and its programs exploring the six stages conceptualised. Adding bilingualism to the TVET program will increase enrollment, make the program easier to get into, and help African countries’ economies grow. A bilingual policy will help many local talents who cannot speak other languages
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Is virtual learning still virtually satisfactory in the post-COVID-19 era for pre-service teachers?
The planned global migration to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the unplanned incidence of the COVID-19 pandemic have necessitated the indispensability of virtual learning adoption in tertiary institutions. The success of virtual learning is premised on many factors, including the quality of virtual learning platforms (VLPs) and users' satisfaction. This study, therefore, examined the association between VLPs and pre-service teachers (PST) satisfaction in the post-COVID-19 era. The study adopted a quantitative design using multi-stage sampling to select 200 final-year students in education faculty. The analytical methods used were Pearson product-moment correlation and independent t-test using SPSS version 29 statistical software. The findings indicated a moderately positive link between the quality of virtual learning platforms and pre-service teachers’ satisfaction. However, satisfaction levels differed based on the gender of the participants. This study recommends a regular collection of feedback from the students to identify where there are hitches; higher institutions should consider creating a quality assurance department for monitoring and evaluation of the institutions' virtual learning; and training and retraining of students and instructors are essential for the update of knowledge as the new technologies continue to emerge. The uniqueness of this study is in the appraisal of pre-service teachers’ knowledge and satisfaction after the COVID-19 experience. There is no iota of doubt that pre-service teachers who are preparing to be engaged in different schools need to imbibe the culture of virtual learning. Therefore, further studies must be conducted on the best way to make virtual learning attractive
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
