Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. "Até que a morte nos separe?": dimensões psicossociais dos homicídios conjugais cometidos por mulheres em Santa Catarina

Dentre as categorias de violências entre casais, encontra-se a violência letal representada pelo homicídio. O homicídio conjugal caracteriza-se por sujeitos que estão ou estiveram vinculados um ao outro, seja mediante matrimônio, união estável ou namoro. Com base na perspectiva psicanalítica, entende-se o fenômeno em questão, por meio do conceito de passagem ao ato que, por sua vez, caracteriza-se como a expressão do conflito psíquico do que não consegue ser representado por meio da fala ou ainda, pela somatização. Encontra-se na literatura diferenças entre as características dos homicídios conjugais cometidos por homens e mulheres. A prevalência dar-se-á por autores do sexo masculino, o que necessariamente implica na construção de pesquisas. Logo, existe uma escassez na produção científica acerca dos homicídios conjugais cometidos por mulheres, especialmente as dimensões psicossociais relacionadas a esse ato. Tendo em vista, a complexidade dos homicídios conjugais, assim como sua repercussão psicológica e social, reitera-se a importância do estudo em questão. Desse modo, esta pesquisa caracteriza-se pela abordagem quantitativa e teve como objetivo compreender as dimensões psicossociais dos homicídios conjugais cometidos por mulheres. Para esse fim, utilizou-se como fonte de informações os processos criminais e as reportagens de jornais. Em seguida, houve o preenchimento do Instrumento de Registro Multidimencional do Homicídio Conjugal. A partir disso, foram efetuadas três análises estatísticas: análise univariada, bivariada e de aglomeração hierárquica. Essa amostra conta com 58 casos de homicídio conjugal cometidos por mulheres em Santa Catarina, entre os anos de 2005 a 2017. Os principais resultados, correspondente às variáveis que antecedem ao ato homicida e que caracterizam essa amostra foram: presença de violência conjugal anterior ao gesto homicida (77,5%); escassez de busca por profissionais da saúde (84,4%), mais especificamente profissionais da psicologia; poucas mulheres receberam um diagnóstico clínico (8,6%); o vínculo prevalente entre o casal é a união estável (43,1%); o ambiente doméstico comum entre o casal foi o cenário de predomínio onde ocorreu o homicídio (63,8%); a arma branca (faca) foi o principal método utilizado (41,4%); ocorreram com maior frequência durante os finais de semana (41,4%), no turno da noite e madrugada (55,1%); histórico de uso abusivo de álcool ou substâncias pelas autoras (29,3%); autodefesa como a motivação principal para o ato (31,0%), seguida por seguros (20,6%) e medida de represálias (17, 2%). Para além dessas, houve presença de associação entre as variáveis: ameaça de morte ao cônjuge e a tentativa de suicídio advinda da autora; histórico de maus tratos infantil e violência contra o(s) filho(s); perda de um ente querido nos últimos dois anos e o gesto homicida; e ameaça de morte com tentativa de suicídio. A dimensão psicossocial a partir das variáveis expostas, apresentam a necessidade de construção de ações interventivas pelos profissionais que atuam com esse fenômeno em distintas áreas. Por fim, considera-se que a dinâmica que exprime a violência entre casais, se mostra multifatorial e complexa, e que não deve ser vista a partir de um único prisma.Abstract: Existing violence in the context of intimacy has become the object of scientific investigation and the production of public policies. Among the categories of violence between couples, there is the lethal violence represented by homicide. Marital homicide is characterized by subjects who are or were linked to each other, whether through marriage, stable union or dating. Based on the psychoanalytic perspective, the phenomenon in question is understood, through the concept of passage to the act, which, in turn, is characterized as the expression of the psychic conflict of what cannot be represented through speech or, by somatization. There are differences in the literature between the characteristics of marital homicides committed by men and women. The prevalence will be given by male authors, which necessarily implies the construction of research. Therefore, there is a shortage in scientific production about marital homicides committed by women, especially the psychosocial dimensions related to this act. In view of this, the complexity of marital homicides, as well as their psychological and social repercussions, reiterates the importance of the study in question. Thus, this research is characterized by the quantitative approach and aimed to understand the psychosocial dimensions of conjugal homicides committed by women. For this purpose, criminal proceedings and newspaper reports were used as a source of information. Then, the Multidimensional Registration Instrument for Marital Homicide was filled out. From this, three statistical analyzes were performed: univariate, bivariate and hierarchical agglomeration analysis. This sample has 58 cases of marital homicide committed by women in Santa Catarina, between the years 2005 to 2017. The main results, corresponding to the variables that precede the homicidal act and that characterize this sample were: presence of conjugal violence prior to the homicidal gesture (77.5%); scarcity of search for health professionals (84.4%), more specifically psychology professionals; few women received a clinical diagnosis (8.6%); the prevailing bond between the couple is the stable union (43.1%); the common domestic environment among the couple was the predominant scenario where the homicide occurred (63.8%); the bladed weapon (knife) was the main method used (41.4%); occurred more frequently during the weekends (41.4%), in the night and early morning shift (55.1%); history of abusive use of alcohol or substances by the authors (29.3%); self-defense as the main motivation for the act (31.0%), followed by insurance (20.6%) and measure of reprisals (17, 2%). In addition to these, there was an association between the variables: death threat to the spouse and the attempted suicide from the author; history of child abuse and violence against the child (ren); loss of a loved one in the past two years and the homicidal gesture; and death threat with attempted suicide. The psychosocial dimension based on the variables exposed, shows the need for the construction of interventional actions by professionals who work with this phenomenon in different areas. Finally, it is considered that the dynamics that express violence between couples are multifactorial and complex, and that they should not be seen from a single perspective

Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
