The ageing of the population is considered a world phenomenon, and during this process the regular physical activity and the adoption of an active lifestyle are necessary to nurture health and quality of life in the old age. The present study aimed to analyse the association of the perspective of ageing with the practice of habitual physical activity and the domains of the life quality of workers in the Industry of Electronic Telecommunications Brazilian of the Greater Florianópolis # SC. The sample was composed of 511 workers of both genders, within 18-65 years of age. The sample process was determined in a simple random form, by means of a list drawing of active workers in the company. A standardized questionnaire was used containing four parts: a) Sociodemographic aspects and anthropometric data (self-referred body mass and stature); b) Quality of life (WHOQOL-bref); c) Physical activity (IPAQ # short version); d) Perspective of the ageing (Sheppard Inventory). The statistical program SPSS, version 16.0 for Microsoft® Windows#, was used for the following analysis: descriptive (average, standard deviation, amplitude and percentage), Chi square test, Test T from Student for independent sample and multiple regression (Forward method). The results indicate that the in the gender variation there was significant statistic difference for the marital status (p=0,009), schooling (p<0,001), economical status (p=0,025), company working time (p=0,010), BMI (p<0,001) and physical activity level (p=0,032). As for the female gender workers, there was a tendency of 55,9% married, 52,4% secondary school, 28,7% in the medium economic status. In relation to BMI 63,8% were eutrophic, and as for the physical activity level 43,8% were much more active in the daily activities. On the other hand, in the male gender workers, there was a tendency of 55,6% not married, 66,2% undergraduate degree or higher, 79,9% in the high economic status and 78,4% within 5 years of company working time. Concerning BMI 38,5% were classified as overweight, 12,1% with obesity, and as for the physical activity level 33,9% were active in the daily activities. The male workers performed more the walking (p=0,046); the female gender performed more moderate intensity physical activity (p<0,001) and moderate + vigorous intensity PA (p=0,033). In general, the workers presented a positive perspective towards ageing (79,5% male and 84,2% female). Between the ageing perspective factors and the gender variable there was statistically significant difference for the death (p=0,026) and the integrity factor (p=0,020). The variables which contributed to the ageing perspective in male workers were the psychological (ß=0,259), and environmental domain (ß=0,183), the BMI (ß=0,172), and the age (ß=-0,133). Such variables could explain 13% (R²) of the ageing perspective variation. As for the female workers, the variables which contributed in were the environmental (ß=0,346), and the age domains (ß=-0,194). Such variables could explain 14% (R²) of the variation of ageing perspective. Therefore, it is concluded that the workers in general possessed a positive perspective concerning ageing and some variables associated with. The theme is suggested, then, in order to assess other variables that might contribute to ageing perspective

Heterogeneous and tissue-specific regulation of effector T cell responses by IFN-gamma during Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection.
IFN-γ and T cells are both required for the development of experimental cerebral malaria during Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection. Surprisingly, however, the role of IFN-γ in shaping the effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cell response during this infection has not been examined in detail. To address this, we have compared the effector T cell responses in wild-type and IFN-γ(-/-) mice during P. berghei ANKA infection. The expansion of splenic CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells during P. berghei ANKA infection was unaffected by the absence of IFN-γ, but the contraction phase of the T cell response was significantly attenuated. Splenic T cell activation and effector function were essentially normal in IFN-γ(-/-) mice; however, the migration to, and accumulation of, effector CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells in the lung, liver, and brain was altered in IFN-γ(-/-) mice. Interestingly, activation and accumulation of T cells in various nonlymphoid organs was differently affected by lack of IFN-γ, suggesting that IFN-γ influences T cell effector function to varying levels in different anatomical locations. Importantly, control of splenic T cell numbers during P. berghei ANKA infection depended on active IFN-γ-dependent environmental signals--leading to T cell apoptosis--rather than upon intrinsic alterations in T cell programming. To our knowledge, this is the first study to fully investigate the role of IFN-γ in modulating T cell function during P. berghei ANKA infection and reveals that IFN-γ is required for efficient contraction of the pool of activated T cells
