Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Analysis of “The Small Farmer” by Gastón Acurio: A case of poverty romance in organic discourse
No full textThis study will analyze a brief text by Peruvian chef Gastón Acurio, leader of the so-called Peruvian gastronomic boom, in order to explain how he develops a discursive strategy aimed at generating resistance to technological changes, especially in the field of transgenic foods. This analysis becomes necessary given that digital social networks have become very influential spaces for the formation of opinion. At the same time, Gastón Acurio is not only an influential businessperson but also one of those new media characters that we call “influencers” and that have thousands of followers.His text is part of a campaign against the use of genetically modified organisms —GMOs— in Peru. Acurio’s textual strategy was creating a fictional character; a small farmer living in a poor but bucolic world, far away from the greedy needs of the city, happy with his modestlife, and in no need for riches.En este estudio se analizará un breve texto del chef peruano Gastón Acurio, líder del llamado boom gastronómico peruano, para explicar cómo desarrolla una estrategia discursiva destinada a generar resistencia a los cambios tecnológicos especialmente en el campo de los alimentos transgénicos. Este análisis se hace necesario dado que las redes sociales digitales se han convertido en espacios muy influyentes para la formación de opinión. Al mismo tiempo Acurio no solo es un empresario influyente, sino también uno de esos nuevos personajes mediáticos que llamamos “influencers” y que tienen miles de seguidores.Su texto forma parte de una campaña contra el uso de organismos genéticamente modificados —OGM— en Perú. No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

BTI saturation and universal relaxation in SiC power MOSFETs
No full textThis work focuses on the positive bias temperature instability of SiC-based MOSFETs under different stress voltages and temperatures. Stress experiments demonstrate that the threshold voltage shift (∆Vth) does not follow a conventional power law for long stress time, but exhibits a saturating log- time dependence attributed to the charge trapping in the pre-existing defects at the SiC/SiO2 interface or in the SiO2 layer. The maximum Vth shift (∆Vmax), which is a function of the total trap density, increases with the stress voltage (Vstress) and decreases for temperatures higher than 50 °C. The time constant of the traps (τ0) also shows an uptrend with Vstress with a maximum value of around 50 °C. Moreover, the trap energy distribution (γ) slightly increases with temperature. The recovery analysis shows that an empiric universal relaxation function well describes the data with a dispersion parameter (β) that follows the Arrhenius law. Finally, the Vth recovery, after the same Vstress, is enhanced with temperature and also depicts a linear behavior on the Arrhenius plot. This indicates that the charge de-trapping process is thermally activated and explains the low degradation observed at high temperatures during the stress phase
Mining e-mail content for author identification forensics
No full textWe describe an investigation into e-mail content mining for author identification, or authorship attribution, for the purpose of forensic investigation. We focus our discussion on the ability to discriminate between authors for the case of both aggregated e-mail topics as well as across different email topics. An extended set of e-mail document features including structural characteristics and linguistic patterns were derived and, together with a Support Vector Machine learning algorithm, were used for mining the e-mail content. Experiments using a number of e-mail documents generated by different authors on a set of topics gave promising results for both aggregated and multi-topic author categorisation
