Abu Tammam: The Voice, the Echo, and the Presence A Reading in the Poetry of Salah Abdul Saboor
Get PDFالأهداف: تهدف هذه الدراسةُ إلى الوقوف على حُضور أبي تمّام، حبيبِ بنِ أوس الطائي (188 - 231هـ/ 803-845م)، في الشِّعر العربي الحديث، مُتَّخِذَةً تجرِبةَ الشاعر محمد صلاح الدين عبد الصبور (صلاح عبد الصبور، 1931-1981م) محورًا قِرائيًّا تَتَّكِئُ عليه.
المنهجية: أتخذت الدراسة منهجا تحليليا يقوم على اتخاذ تجربة الشاعر صلاح عبد الصبور محورًا قِرائيًّا تَتَّكِئُ عليه. إذ جاء استدعاءُ عبد الصبور لتجرِبة أبي تمّام الشِّعريَّة من وجهتين؛ أولاهُما: شحذ الهِمَّة العربيَّة باستذكار قصيدته البائيَّة في مدح المعتصم، والتعبيرِ عنِ الواقع العربيِّ المُمتلئ بالانكسارات، وثانيتهما: معركته التجديديَّة في الشِّعر العربيّ وموقف التقليديين منه.
النتائج: توصَّلَتِ الدراسةُ إلى أنَّ عبد الصبور استخدم استدعاءَ التراث المُتَمَثِّلِ في أبي تمّام لِيَعبُرَ من خلال العامِّ إلى الخاصّ، مُعيدًا معركة أبي تمّام القديمةَ معَ النُّقاد إلى عصرنا الحديث، معطيًا معركتَهُ التجديديَّةَ روحًا جديدةً وعمقًا أكبر.
الخلاصة: خلُصت الدراسة إلى أنَّ عبد الصبور لم يكن ضدّ التراث بالمُطلق، بل كان ضد العيش فيه، وعدم الإضافة إليه، وبعثه من جديد بما يتلاءم معَ مفردات العصر الحديث وحاجاته وقضاياه. كما جاء تفاعُلُهُ مَعَهُ ليهبَ قصائدَهُ أُفقًا أرحبَ وأجمل؛ إذ كان يبحث فيه عن تعابيره الإنسانيَّة لا عن لُغته وزمنه وقائله حَسْبُ.Objectives: This study aims to examine the presence of Abu Tammam, Habib Bin Aws Al-Ta’i (188-231 AH / 803-845 BC) in modern Arabic poetry based on the experience of poet Mohammad Salah Al-Din Abdul Saboor (Salah Abdul Saboor 1931-1981 BC).
Methods: The study analyzes the experience of the poet Salah Abdel-Sabour. There are two reasons behind Abdul Saboor’s mentioning Abu Tammam’s poetic experience, the first of which is to lighten up the the Arab spirit through recalling his poem; al-Baiya, that praises al-Mu’tasem and manifests the Arab reality which is loaded with downfalls. The second reason is his battle of renewing Arabic poetry and the way traditional critics reacted to it.
Results: The study concludes that Abdul Sabour used the traditional summons represented in the poetry of Abu Tammam to pass from the general to the private. By doing so, he repeats Abu Tammam’s old battle with the critics and brings it to our modern age, which endows his renewal battle with a new spirit and adds more depth.
Conclusion: Based on this, Abdul Saboor was not entirely against tradition, but he was against living in it without adding to it and without rejuvenating it in accordance with the vocabulary, needs, and issues of the modern age. Furthermore, his interaction with tradition has created a bigger and more beautiful space in which he looked for its humanistic expressions, not only for its language, age, and speaker

Get PDFThis thesis comparatively analyzes the dynamics of oppression portrayed in Harold Pinter\u27s One for the Road, and Salah Abdul-Saboor\u27s Night Traveller, using Augusto Boal\u27s Theatre of the Oppressed, Frantz Fanon\u27s The Wretched of the Earth, and â Theater of the Absurdâ for the critical framework. With oppressive regimes regenerating themselves, and morphing into new types of practices, the power of art remains an essential motivation for the masses to resist those regimes. This applies particularly to theater, due its vitality. Whilst one may utilize a theatrical performance to entertain, others may utilize it to either inspire resistance, or chronicle and criticize a community\u27s state. With works like One for the Road and Night Traveller that chronicle oppression through a theatrical political platform, oppressed audience members could be inspired to resort to resistance rather than to submission, and become empowered to be part of a positive change. My thesis argues that these two plays are necessarily oppressive, with an intense oppressor-oppressed dynamic, where the former exerts all available resources to silence the latter. However if both plays are performed to oppressed subjects in a â Theater of the Oppressedâ technique, they may function as an empowering tool of resistance
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
