Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

No full textO presente artigo tem como objetivo o estudo da promoção por merecimento dos juízes federais, por intermédio da análise dos critérios estabelecidos na Resolução n. 106/2010 do Conselho Nacional de Justiça. Esmiuçaremos cada um deles, explicando porque entendemos que são ou não adequados para aferição do merecimento destes magistrados. Ao final, defenderemos que a promoção por merecimento, no seu formato atual, torna-se um meio de desmotivação dos juízes federais, e que, para se tornar um meio de motivação, deve ter seus critérios estabelecidos com a participação dos magistrados, sendo não só objetivos como também integralmente adequados e realistas

Get PDFThe main objective of this article is to consolidate and propose a research agenda focused on the actual regional trajectories of development in Brazil. Such agenda is rooted in my own academic trajectory, specially related to de part that deals with the emergence of new productive spaces in Brazilian non- traditional locational axes of productive activity and manufacture (in other words out of Southern and South Brazilian states). The regional trajectories of development investigation imply consider the economic and non-economic determinants of regional development, as well as the social, political, policy and demography consequences of such development. In order to accomplish this agenda a mixed methods approach, capable to take together quantitative and qualitative techniques, would be the most interest one.O presente trabalho tem por objetivo consolidar e propor uma agenda de pesquisa para a investigação das trajetórias regionais de desenvolvimento no Brasil contemporâneo. Enraizada nos desdobramentos de minha trajetória de pesquisa, o doutorado, especialmente, a agenda proposta visa observar os novos espaços produtivos, sobretudo, fora dos eixos mais tradicionais de localização da atividade econômica no Brasil – ou seja, Sudeste e Sul. A investigação dessas trajetórias perpassa a análise dos seus determinantes econômicos e não econômicos, bem como as suas consequências em termos sociais, políticos e demográficos e as suas interações com políticas públicas municipais, estaduais e/ou federais. Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Parques lineares na cidade de São Paulo: inserção na agenda pública e implementação
No full textA acelerada expansão da Metrópole de São Paulo no século XX resultou em uma urbanização dispersa e de infraestrutura precária, com padrão monocêntrico e ocupação das bordas periféricas pelas populações em situação de maior vulnerabilidade socioeconômica. Esta ocupação se deu sobre áreas ambientalmente frágeis, como os fundos de vale, lugares em que, ainda hoje, são verificados altos índices de vulnerabilidade. O conceito de parque linear foi introduzido na agenda do Município de São Paulo a partir do Plano Diretor Estratégico (2002) como uma solução intersetorial para as questões habitacionais, de saneamento básico e ambientais. Hoje, a cidade conta com 24 parques lineares geridos pela Secretaria do Verde e do Meio Ambiente. O presente trabalho tem como objetivo explorar os processos de inserção na agenda e de implementação dos parques lineares. O interesse em estudar este tema está em sua relevância por apresentar-se como uma solução intersetorial para problemas socioambientais, decorrentes da ocupação e impermeabilização das várzeas dos rios – problema que se agrava com a sobreposição desta condição à situação de vulnerabilidade social nas bordas da cidade de São Paulo.São Paulo has experienced intense growth in the twentieth century, resulting in urban sprawl and poor infrastructure, with a monocentric pattern and occupation of the peripheral edges by the lower classes. This occupation took place in environmentally fragile areas, such as valley bottoms, places where there are high levels of social vulnerability even today. The concept of linear park entered the agenda of the Municipality of São Paulo from the Strategic Master Plan (2002) as an intersectoral solution for housing, basic sanitation and environmental issues. Currently, the city has 24 linear parks managed by the Green and Environment Secretariat. The work aims to explore the processes of insertion in the agenda and implementation of linear parks. The interest in studying this theme is relevant because it presents itself as an intersectoral solution for social and environmental problems resulting from the occupation and waterproofing of river floodplains - a problem that is aggravated by the overlapping of this condition to the situation of social vulnerability on the edges of the city from Sao Paulo
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
