Discontinuous free rotations in uniaxial ferrimagnets
The magnetic-phase diagram of the free-powder anisotropic Néel ferrimagnet is presented in terms of the reduced sublattice anisotropy fields, x and y. It marks the boundaries of the regions of field-induced first-order transitions involving the collinear and the non-collinear states. The transition from the ferrimagnetic to the canted phase is always second order
A wide temperature range susceptometer
A new type of high sensitivity magnetic
susceptometer is proposed. It utilises a long thin vibrating wire
as a sample support, which is driven at resonance by an alternating
field gradient, with no applied dc field. The gradient is
generated by a tiny soft ferromagnetic rod close to the sample.
The chosen configuration is particularly suitable to perform
measurements on thin films and small samples in a wide temperature
range (up to 1200 K). A realised prototype for high
temperatures is described, with a few examples of measurements.
An analysis of the moment sensitivity and considerations
on the noise are given, with indications of the physical
limits of the technique. A moment sensitivity of the order of
10^-11 Am2/(Hz)^(1/2), with an alternating field of 100 Nm, is estimated
for the present prototype
Singular point detection of energy losses in hard magnetic materials
The real and the imaginary part of the reversible parallel susceptibility (RPS) and it harmonics was measured using the modulation technique. Singular Point Detection (SPD) peak in the second harmonic of the complex susceptibility was observed
Mechanical assembly of a Vibrating Wire Susceptometer specially designed for high temperatures
The vibrating wire susceptometer (VWS) represents a recent answer to the demand for high-sensitivity measurement of the magnetic susceptibility at high temperatures. This method is based on the principle of the mechanical resonance of a thin metallic wire, a condition that is produced through the magnetic interaction between the sample and an alternate field gradient. A prototype of the VWS particularly suitable for measurements above room temperatures is described, with particular emphasis on the details of mechanical assembly. Furthermore an estimate is made of the calibration constant of the instrument, aimed at absolute susceptibility measurements
Vibrating wire magnetic susceptometer
The growing interest in the field of nanoscale magnetic systems, especially regarding thin films and
multilayers, emphasizes the need for sensitive measurement techniques. A new type of magnetic
susceptometer, based on an alternative field gradient, is described. The mechanical resonating
element is a long, thin, metallic wire. A complementary component generates a large local field
gradient while keeping the field intensity as low as possible. The basic configuration of a typical
instrument is presented and a general theoretical treatment is given concerning the magnetic force,
the mechanical sensitivity of the vibrating system, and the vibration sensor
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
