Un periodista militar: Antonio Vallecillo Luján y su Archivo Militar (1841-1843)
Despite being one of the most neglected areas of military history, the military press provides a great deal of information about the situation of the army in a specific period. Its interest lies in that the newspapers are written by the soldiers and read by the same soldiers, allowing the reader to know what were the topics that most worried the soldiers of the moment. This article tries to analyze specific newspapers (those direct by the military journalist and legislator Antonio Vallecillo Luján) at a certain time (the Regency of Espartero, after the end of the First Carlist War), seeking to know the way in which a part of the army saw itself and put it in writing for everyone to read in a postcivil war context.Pese a ser uno de los ámbitos más descuidados de la historia militar, la prensa militar proporciona gran cantidad de información acerca de la situación del instituto armado del país en un periodo concreto. Su interés radica en que son escritos por militares y para militares, permitiendo al lector conocer cuáles eran los temas que más preocupaban a los soldados del momento. Este trabajo pretende analizar unos periódicos concretos (los dirigidos por el periodista militar y legislador Antonio Vallecillo Luján) en un momento determinado (la Regencia de Espartero, tras finalizar la Primera Guerra Carlista), buscando conocer la manera en que una parte del ejército se veía a sí misma y lo plasmaba por escrito para que todos lo leyesen, en un contexto de posguerra civil
WebML modelling in UML
In recent years, we have witnessed how the Web Engineering community has started using the standard unified modelling language (UML) notation, techniques and supporting tools for modelling Web systems, which has led to the adaptation to UML of several existing modelling languages, notations and development processes. This interest for being MOF and UML-compliant arises from the increasing need to interoperate with other notations and tools, and to exchange data and models, thus facilitating reuse. WebML, like any other domain-specific language, allows one to express in a precise and natural way the concepts and mechanisms of its domain of reference. However, it cannot fully interoperate with other notations, nor be integrated with other model-based tools. As a solution to these requirements, a UML 2.0 profile for WebML which allows WebML models to be used in conjunction with other notations and modelling tools has been described. The paper also evaluates UML 2.0 as a platform for Web modelling and identifies some key requirements for making this version of the standard more usable

Optimizing the Energy Consumption of Large-Scale Applications
The energy consumption of large IT infrastructures is becoming a major concern, since it represents one of the principal operation costs. While modern devices (e.g., processors, disks) have the capability of reducing their power consumption by running at lower speed, this feature must be used with care, as slowing down devices may increase the execution time of the applications beyond acceptable limits. In this paper we propose the qoS AWare energY managER (SAWYER), a framework for dynamically reducing the energy requirement of large-scale applications subject to response time constraints. SAWYER identifies the opti mal performance/power consumption tradeoff such that the overall energy requirement is minimized and the application response time is kept below a pre-defined maximum value. This is achieved using a control loop based on a greedy optimization strategy which uses a Queueing Network performance model to quickly evaluate different power settings, ensuring that the expected system response time is kept below the threshold. SAWYER is completely transparent and does not require any modification of the application itself
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
