Game Elements, Motivation and Programming Learning: A Case Study
The learning of programming is traditionally challenging for students. However, this is also one of the most fundamental skills for any computer scientist, and is becoming an important skill in other areas of knowledge. In this paper we analyze the use of game-elements in a challenging long-term programming task, with students of the 3rd year of a Informatics Engineering degree. We conducted a quantitative study using the AMS scale to assess students' motivation. Results show that with the use of game-elements, students are both intrinsically and extrinsically motivated, and that they consider learning/working fun, which contributes positively to their academic performance
A biblioteca em versus de Rui Pires Cabral / The Rui Pires Cabral’s Biblioteca in Versus
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to introduce a rhytmic-formal analyze of three collage-poems written by Rui Pires Cabral, on his book Biblioteca de rapazes, published on 2012. In this edition, the themes are developted with images that refers a figuration of semantic fields then poetically builded. This kind of choice provides dynamism to the verbal language registred in such texts and to the concept of the theoretical terms, like verso, estrofe and ritmo. We all know that this concepts are fundamental in terms of poetry. Therefore, the theoretical-critical objective of this article is to discuss this type of poems and the elaboration of the conceptual compreehention of the previouslly mentioned poetic terms, problematized in the literary discourses of those collage-poems, composed by the use of images that build the thematic dimensions of this kind of artistic work. Keywords: collage-poems; Portuguese contemporary poetry; Rui Pires Cabral; free verse
Uma entrevista com Rui Simões
UIDB/04209/2020
Rui Simões has one of the longest careers in Portuguese documentary cinema. As a starting point to this interview, some of his documentary films were chosen, namely Ilha da Cova da Moura (2010), Kolá San Jon é Festa di Kau Berdi (2011) and Alto Bairro (2014), with the purpose of revealing the anthropological vision of the director, based on a permanent search of authenticity and the construction of the ‘real’, creating films that offer a new look at the other, regardless of them being an individual, a community, a place, a time or an event. The documentary filmmaker tries to relate to and generate empathy with the reality of the other, based on the assumption that every human being is endowed with sensitivities, beliefs, cultural traditions, and educational and sociopolitical contexts. In this sense, the interview asks to what extent Rui Simões manages to divest himself of his self as a creator of documentary cinema.publishersversionpublishe
The pseudochiral Fermi surface of -RuI
In continuation of research into RuCl and RuBr as potential quantum
spin liquids, a phase with unique magnetic order characterised by long-range
quantum entanglement and fractionalised excitations, the compound RuI has
been recently synthesised. Here, we show RuI is a moderately correlated
metal with two bands crossing the Fermi level, implying the absence of any
quantum spin liquids phase. We find that the Fermi surface as measured or
calculated for a 2D () slice at any lacks
mirror symmetry, i.e. is pseudochiral. We link this phenomenon to the ABC
stacking in the R space group of -RuI, which is achiral
but lacks any mirror or glide symmetries. We further provide a formal framework
for understanding when such a pseudochiral electronic structure may be
observed

Short‐ and long‐term outcomes after arthroscopic treatment of young large breed dogs with medial compartment disease of the elbow
Objectives
To report short- and long-term outcomes after arthroscopic treatment in young large breed dogs affected by medial coronoid process disease (MCPD) and identify variables affecting outcome.
Study Design
Prospective observational case series.
Animals
Large breed dogs <3 years old (n = 15; 23 elbows).
Methods
MCPD was confirmed by radiography, computed tomography, and arthroscopy. Dogs were treated by arthroscopy. Variables recorded at time of treatment included radioulnar incongruity (RUI) and degree of cartilage erosion. Variables recorded before, 6 weeks, and ≥23 months after surgery included radiographic score for osteoarthritis, trochlear notch sclerosis, muscle circumference, range of motion (ROM), and the load distribution of vertical ground reaction forces between thoracic and pelvic limbs.
Results
A greater load distribution to the pelvic limbs was identified preoperatively in dogs with RUI than in dogs with congruent elbows. Load distribution was not significantly improved at 6 weeks compared with preoperatively. Muscle circumference and vertical impulse distributions were improved at long-term evaluation despite an increased osteoarthritis score. This improvement was more obvious in dogs with RUI or a high degree of cartilage erosion at initial presentation.
Conclusion
Some evidence of improvement in long-term function was found in dogs with MCPD after arthroscopic treatment. RUI and cartilage erosion at the time of diagnosis were associated with more lameness preoperatively but did not affect the final gait assessment or osteoarthritis score in this small cohort

D 1.1.5 Le RUI (Rural Urban Interface) et les feux. Analyse et cartographie des changements spatio-temporels du RUI à l'échelle locale et régionale en relation avec l’occurrence des feux.
[Departement_IRSTEA]Territoires [TR1_IRSTEA]SEDYVINThis deliverable is part of task 1.1.4 of WP1.1 (Recent landscape change and fire regime). The deliverable 1.1.5 aims to present an analysis of the spatial and temporal changes in rural urban interface (RUI). The results will be compared with fire data. The analysis will be done on local scale by IRSTEA, UNISS and CNRIBIMET and by TRAGSATEC in their respective study areas (even so, the TRAGSATEC methodology can also be applied on regional scale). They are located in south-eastern France, in eastern Spain and in north-western Sardinia (Italy). The RUI will be mapped using the tool developed in the deliverable D 1.1.3[M 24]. The framework of this deliverable is to create and compare several RUI maps created with data from different time steps. The maps will be intersected with georeferenced fire data burning areas and fire ignition points
