About the Teaching Strategies of Modality in the Classroom
The article investigates the modality of verbs, words, expressions, and the methodology of teaching them in the auditorium. First of all, the author gives some information about the category of modality. She states the opinions of different scientists about the modality in different languages. For instance, the names of the scientists who investigated the category of modality such as O. Musayev, F. Jahangirov, I. Crilova, Y. Slinin, Y. Zvereva, I. Rickman and others have been referred to in the article. She gives the division of the modal verbs according to O. Musayev’s classification in the English language. They are: primary modal verbs, and secondary modal verbs. Each of these modal verbs has been analyzed through the examples by the author. Besides modal verbs, there are words, expressions which can express modality too. These facts are also stated in the article. The author considers it noteworthy to mention that the usage of modality of words, expressions is not generally found in the textbooks which are studied in the auditorium of Azerbaijani students. For this reason this usage of modality is considered to be challenging by the students as they don’t have much information about them. So, she gives the methodology of teaching modality in the auditorium. The methodology can be helpful for the lecturers to teach the category of modality. The examples used by the author can illustrate the exact model of the modal words, expressions, etc
In the 21st century, which is known as the information age, as information technologies has affected every sector it has affected insurance sector significantly as well. Large insurance companies in the world insurance sector, who perform the opinion leadership, are trying to differentiate and increase the distribution channels they use to popularize the sales of products. For this purpose, sales through web sites and e-mails are the primary alternative distribution channels. In addition to preparing policies for the needs of the insured, establishing communication with the insured in a shorter period of time, ensuring the flexibility of risk management and providing more effective risk management support, Internet insurance also provides serious advantages to insurance companies in economic terms.Based on this idea, in our study, clustering analysis of the companies in Turkish insurance sector was made; either in life and pension companies or in companies operating in non-life branches, sectors have divided into 2 or 3 groups. According to the results, it has been observed that the companies that are at the top of the premium production for both branches continue to exist in the sector without changing their position in years. High customer satisfaction in the field of electronic insurance can be one of the main reasons for this result. According to the results of the cluster analysis, it will be possible for companies in the cluster with low premium production to be at the top of the premium production if they develop their products and instruments in electronic insurance activities
Linguocultural Characteristics of Fixed Expressions With Onomastic Single Components
Our world is a modern globalised world, and communication is essential. Preserving civilisations and cultures has a dominant societal position in the contemporary era. In this regard, most of the communicative processes in the world refer to intercultural communication. That is why the interest of researchers in the issues of language and culture, intercultural communication, and linguoculturology is growing. It is known that stable associations reflect the characteristics of people's perception of the surrounding world and the natural world around them. The cognitive mechanisms in forming a stable combination are the people's history, traditions, lifestyle, the geographical world in which they are surrounded, and other factors. All these things we have listed affect people's thinking and are reflected in the language to express a kind of thinking. All these factors constitute a particular research object in linguistic and cultural studies. The interaction of language and culture is manifested in stable combinations. Linguistics reflects the cognitive thinking of this or that nation. It studies the language of the people's view of the world formed based on millennia of real-life experience. Linguistic factors can manifest themselves in stable combinations. Among linguistic units, the onomastic unit is the only language structure with a unitary component that is so closely related to culture. That is why the linguistic and cultural analysis of onomastic single-component stable compounds in both languages with different systems, like Azerbaijani and English, is of great interest
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
