Psychological resilience in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome: effect of involvement of major salivary and lacrimal glands

This cross-sectional study included 116 patients with pSS. Data were collected through clinical examinations, measurement of salivary flow rates (SFRs), and from Schirmer's test, as well as from patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), such as the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) Sj & ouml;gren's Syndrome Patient Reported Index (ESSPRI), Brief Resilience Scale (BRS), Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI), Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14), and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Hyposalivation was defined as an unstimulated SFR of = 5 points), a lower BRS score was observed in patients with both hyposalivation and ocular dryness (2.59 +/- 0.69) than in patients with isolated hyposalivation (2.84 +/- 0.84). The BRS score was also negatively associated with the WPAI-Daily Impairment and OHIP-14 scores in patients with hyposalivation as well as with HADS-A (the seven items of HADS relating to the anxiety dimension) and HADS-D (the seven items of HADS relating to the depression dimension) in the whole group. The results suggest that psychological resilience in pSS may be affected by recurrent parotitis, the levels of anxiety and depression, as well as hyposalivation with ocular dryness.Science Citation Index Expande
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Pankreas kanserinde serin proteaz inhibitörü, kazal tip1 (SPINK1) düzeyi
GİRİŞ: Pankreas kanseri, yüksek mortal hastalıktır. Pankreas kanserli hastaların çoğu, hastalık ileri evreye ulaşana kadar asemptomatik kalır. Pankreas kanseri taranması için standart bir program bulunmamaktadır. Pankreas kanseri tanısı için spesifik serum belirteçleri gerekmektedir. SPINK1 doku yıkımı üzerinde potansiyel inhibitör etkilere sahip proteaz inhibitörüdür. Serumda artmış seviyeleri, çeşitli kanserlerde olumsuz prognoz ile ilişkilendirilmiştir. Pankreas kanseri hastalarında serum SPINK1 düzeylerinin klinik-patolojik ilişkisini ve önemini inceledik. AMAÇ-YÖNTEM: Pankreas kanserinde serum SPINK1 seviyelerinin tanısal ve tedavideki önemini araştırmayı amaçladık. Çalışmaya 62 pankreas adenokarsinomlu ve 76 sağlıklı kontrol olgu dahil edilmiştir. Hastaların yaş, cinsiyet, aile öyküsü, tanı yaşı, hastalık evresi, klinik semptomları, biyokimyasal parametreleri değerlendirilmiştir. Serum SPINK1 seviyeleri ELISA ile ölçülmüştür. BULGULAR: Pankreas kanserli hastalarda serum SPINK1 seviyeleri kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı olarak daha yüksek bulunmuştur (48.3±29.3 vs 25.3±15.4ng/ml, p<0.001). Serum SPINK1 seviyesinin cut off değeri 25ng/ml olarak alındığında sensitivitesi %71 ve spesifitesi %61 saptanmıştır (p<0.001, AUC 0.71). Serum SPINK1 ile CA 19-9 ve diğer biyokimyasal parametreler arasında korelasyon saptanmamıştır. Diabetes mellitus hastalarında serum SPINK1 seviyeleri düşük saptanmıştır. Serum SPINK1 seviyeleri hastalığın evresinden etkilenmezken erken evrelerde bile yüksekti. Tümör boyutu arttıkça serum SPINK1 seviyesinin arttığı görülmüşdür. Metastazı olan ve olmayan hastalarda SPINK1 düzeyinde anlamlı farklılık saptanmamıştır. SONUÇ: Serum SPINK1 seviyesi pankreas duktal adenokarsinomunun tanısında yüksek sensivite ve spesifiteye sahiptir. Ancak hastalığın prognozunun tayininde kullanılabilecek bir gösterge değildir.INTRODUCTION: Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease. Most patients with pancreatic cancer remain asymptomatic until the disease reaches an advanced stage. There is no standard programme for screening of pancreatic cancer. There is need for spesific serum markers for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. SPINK is a protease inhibitor with potential inhibitory effects on tissue degradation. In serum, increased levels have been associated with adverse prognosis in different forms of cancer. We studied the clinical-pathologic association and significance of serum levels of SPINK1 in pancreatic cancer patients. AİMS&METHODS: We aimed to investigate the importance of serum SPINK1 levels in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. Sixty two patients with pancreatic adenocarcinoma and 76 healthy controls were included in the study. Age, gender, family history, age of diagnosis, disease stage, clinical symptoms and biochemical parameters of the patients were evaluated. Serum SPINK1 levels were measured by ELISA.
RESULTS: Pancreatic cancer patients has significantly higher levels of serum SPINK1 levels then controls(48.3±29.3 vs25.3±15.4ng/ml, p<0.001). The cut off value of serum SPINK1 levels over 25 ng/ml has 71% sensitivity and 61% specificity for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer(p<0.001, AUC 0.71). Serum SPINK1 levels was not correlated with serum Ca19-9 levels and other biochemical paremeters. Serum SPINK1 levels were found to be low in patients with diabetes mellitus. Serum SPINK1 levels were not affected by the stage of the disease, but were even higher in the early stages. As the tumor size increased, serum SPINK1 level increased. There was no significant difference in SPINK1 levels in patients with and without metastasis. CONCLUSION: Serum SPINK1 level has high sensitivity and specificity in the diagnosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. However, it is not an indicator that can be used to determine the prognosis of the disease
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
