Adolph Peter Adler, pastore delle piccole comunità danesi di Hasle e Rutsker, nella lontana isola di Bornholm, sconvolge la società del suo tempo dichiarando di aver ricevuto una Rivelazione direttamente da Gesù Cristo sul problema dell’origine del male e di averla trascritta sotto dettatura nei suoi Sermoni. Il pastore Adler è davvero un Apostolo, come pretende di essere, o i suoi scritti sono frutto esclusivo del suo genio poetico? La Chiesa Ufficiale si pronuncerà rapidamente per la rimozione del pastore dal suo incarico, ma a Copenaghen si discuterà ancora a lungo di quello che sarà presto definito Il Caso Adler. Ai temi dell’Autorità e della Rivelazione, del Genio e dell’Apostolo, proprio a partire dalla vicenda di quel pastore che fu anche suo compagno di studi in giovinezza, Kierkegaard dedica il volume che avete tra le mani. Un’opera ponderosa e impegnativa, certamente la più sofferta della sua produzione e quella dalla più turbolenta vicenda editoriale. Otto lunghi anni di riflessione, tre stesure manoscritte, appunti e riscritture innumerevoli per un’opera mai definitivamente chiusa e che l’autore rifiuterà di dare alle stampe. Solo nel 1872 Barfod radunerà e selezionerà il materiale di quello che fino ad allora era non più che un “libro fantasma”, ormai tardi per poter godere della stessa fortuna che avrebbe avuto quando il nome di Adolph Peter Adler era sulla bocca di tutti a Copenaghen. Ancora oggi Il Gran Libro, così come lo stesso autore lo definisce nelle pagine del Diario, rimane sorprendentemente tra i testi più sconosciuti e meno commentati dell’intera bibliografia kierkegaardiana. A distanza di cinquant’anni dalla prima e limitatissima edizione italiana, la presente recupera, oltre alla traduzione di Cornelio Fabro, gli apparati contenenti appunti, note e prefazioni non incluse nelle versioni manoscritte, nonché ampi brani tratti dagli scritti adleriani. Una raccolta di testi fondamentali per poter leggere in Kierkegaard l’emergere e l’evolversi dei temi e delle questioni, relative soprattutto al rapporto del Singolo con la Chiesa Ufficiale, che si faranno sempre più presenti fino a diventare cruciali nell’ultima fase della sua produzione

An Investigation Into Thermal Comfort In Residential Buildings In The Hot Humid Climate Of Sub-Saharan Africa: A Field Study In Abuja-Nigeria
No full textA field study was conducted to understand the real and preferred conditions of thermal comfort in low-income residential buildings in Abuja, Nigeria. Knowing the temperatures people are experiencing in their houses and the limits which residents can tolerate is a first step to proffer passive solutions to reduce discomfort. During the study, 40 people responded to a post occupancy questionnaire and two households were issued a comfort survey questionnaire. Physical measurements were taken simultaneously during the comfort survey in both an air-conditioned and naturally ventilated residential building. The ASHRAE and air flow sensation scale were chosen as voting scales. The results from this study show that during the monitoring period the average and maximum temperatures in an air conditioned residential building were 31°C and 34°C; and 33°C and 36°C for natural ventilated buildings in Abuja. This compares with the external average and maximum air temperatures of 31°C and 39°C
Nonperturbative Adler-Bardeen theorem
No full textThe Adler-Bardeen theorem has been proven only as a statement valid at all orders in perturbation theory, without any control on the convergence of the series. In this paper we prove a nonperturbative version of the Adler-Bardeen theorem in d=2 by using recently developed technical tools in the theory of Grassmann integration. The proof is based on the assumption that the boson propagator decays fast enough for large momenta. If the boson propagator does not decay, as for Thirring contact interactions, the anomaly in the WI (Ward Identities) is renormalized by higher order contributions.
