    Er-doped Oxidized Porous Silicon Waveguides

    The present work reports Er-doped channel oxidized porous silicon waveguides (OPSWG) formed from n+-type Si by the two-step anodisation process. Er has been introduced into porous silicon before oxidation by a cathodic treatment in 0.1 M Er (NO3)3 aqueous solution. A correlation between Er concentration and refractive index profiles has shown dominant core doping with Er relative to cladding regions. Reported Er concentration of 0.8 at.% in the OPSWG is large enough to attain the amplification effect

    Fine Structure of photoluminescence spectra from Erbium incorporated with Iron in oxidised porous silicon

    We report 77 K Photoluminescence (PL) and Photoluminescence Excitation (PLE) spectroscopies of Er ions incorporated with Fe in oxidized porous silicon (OPS) in the form of 5–50 nm sized clusters containing Fe, O, and Er. Twenty sharp (FWHM of about 0.4 meV) PL s peaks related to the transitions between highly split levels of 4I13/2 and 4I15/2 multiplets were observed. Two different Er centers having cubic and lower than cubic symmetries were identified. The photoluminescence excitation spectrum of the 1533 nm PL peak comprises no resonant features but a broad band spanning from 300 to 570 nm.     Correlation of variations in geocosmic processes and thinking parameters

    Earlier we discovered gender-specific multiyear variations in functional brain asymmetry (FBA) indices, synergistic with variations in geocosmic processes [Volchek, 2013]. FBA serves as a foundation for different types of learning, perception and processing of information. In its turn, type of learning dominating in society manifests itself in social processes, cultural events and working styles of inventors and artists. The purpose of this work was to study thinking and musical creativity indices in relation to geocosmic processes. With Torrance method, we collected data about logical, intuitive and combined thinking styles in over 3400 citizens of St. Petersburg, Russia, born in 1930–1991. Gender-specific daily, seasonal and multiyear variations in thinking indices were revealed at p≤0.001. Content analysis of 3352 Soviet songs and romances composed in 1935–1982 showed evolution of musical thinking.Of special interest is the data on multiyear variations in thinking indices in relation to geocosmic conditions. Significant and reliable variations in thinking types were discovered. For instance, the highest scores for logical thinking type (114.2) were found in men born in 1956, while the lowest scores (82.6) were found in men born in 1959, p≤0.001. According to the results of correlation analysis for the periods of 1940–1991 and 1946–1991, there are correlations between variations in thinking types and geocosmic indices. The most influential factors are Earth’s rotation rate ERR and interplanetary magnetic field IMF. With these indices rising in year of birth and preceding year, scores for left-brain logical thinking type increase, p≤0.001.Conclusion: geocosmic processes influence coordination and activation of human brain hemispheres, as well as leading thinking type in society and evolution of music. Such phenomena can be reflected in social processes up to emerge of periods of so-called Thaw or Cold war.</jats:p

    Characterization of silicon LEDs integrated with oxidized porous silicon SOI

    Slightly modified CMOS process has been used for the formation of lateral pn junctions in SOI structures based on oxidized porous silicon. Under forward bias these junctions emit infrared light at 1120 nm. Under reverse bias in the breakdown regime the pn junctions demonstrate both infrared and visible light emissions with efficiencies of 10(-4) and 10(-7), respectively.     Metaverse and Tourism: From a New Niche to a Transformation

    Metaverse is named among the technologies that are predicted to transform everyday life. The proliferation of such technologies as the Internet and smartphones has triggered major transformations in the tourism industry. This paper conceptualises the phenomenon of Metaverse towards the phenomenon of tourism. It applies a semi-systematic literature review methodology to identify existing alignment between the phenomena. The paper concludes that there is a conceptual alignment between the critical dimensions of the Metaverse and tourism. Tourism should be ready for the reciprocal effects of metaverse development on tourism and vice versa, from new opportunities to enhance tourist experience to a possible dissolution of the contemporary understanding of tourism

    Derry as a Whole: Bloody Sunday and the Broader Context of the Troubles in Northern Ireland

    On January 30 1972, fourteen Catholic civilians were killed and another fourteen were injured by British army soldiers in Derry City, Northern Ireland. Since then Bloody Sunday has become one of the most remembered and influential incidents of the Troubles. This paper will touch on the general themes of late 20th century Northern Irish politics by focusing on Bloody Sunday as a key event in the Troubles. This research looks at the thematic reasonings behind Bloody Sunday and the long-harboured tensions of the region without being caught up in the loyalties of the IRA, Unionists, or Britain. By analysing British, Catholic, and Protestant reactions to Bloody Sunday, this paper address Bloody Sunday in a broader context that is inclusive of the historical and political issues. Focusing on propaganda as a tactic, the history of sectarian tensions, the trend of low-level escalating violence, and the effects of Bloody Sunday as a state killing, this paper highlights the core themes of the Troubles. Bloody Sunday was one incident in a much larger 30 year conflict, but historically it provides a framework for analysing the Troubles as a complicated conflict that goes beyond the reunification of Ireland
