FAIR: A new fast trigger and readout bus system
No full textFAIR (FAst Intercrate Readout) is a synchronous ECL bus system dedicated to readout. It is based on a new trigger and readout hardware level protocol and an on a new control system that "learns" how to setup and control modules.
The hardware protocol along with the data structure allow both readout and event building at the same time at the rate of 22 ns/longword (1.44 Gbit/s) without the need of CPUs. It performs trigger management and full pipelining by using a multilevel FIFO structure. FAIR provides for a multi-crate front-end environment and uses an embedded serial network to accomplish front-end control and setup. The data transfer measured performances and the control system are presented in some detail
A COMPACT DIGITAL DELAY MODULE WITH VME AND FAIR INTERFACES
No full textA very compact 32-channel digital delay module has been designed to fit in a single VNM 6 U unit. It is equipped with both VME and Fast Intercrate Readout (FAIR) interfaces. Furthermore, a local manual programmability was implemented to use the modulealso in a stand-alone mode. A variety of NIM and ECL output have been implemented. A special ECL input allows the selection of different output regimes. The thermal stabilization is controlled via a PLL based circuit. The main features of the module are the wide range for the delay and the width of the output pulse: from 25 ns up to 6400 ns, in 25 ns steps; and the low jitter: values of the order of 27 ps (11 ppm) were measured in several bench tests
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
SIP Roaming Solution Amongst Different WLAN-Based Service Providers
No full textDeployment of 802.11 Wireless LANs is increasingly on the rise leading to new service scenarios in which users are connected everywhere - everytime. However the IEEE 802.11 standard was designed for short range wireless data transmissions and does not natively provide any support for roaming amongst different access networks. In the more general case, a mobile user should be expected to be able to roam into a visited domain and gain access to the network on the basis of some credentials shared with his home domain or WISP. There are several mechanisms that can be involved in providing such access control and roaming functionality but no any standard has overcome. In this paper(1) a new SIP based solution is proposed. SIP-based authentication is provided end-to-end between user-to-network and network-to-network. The proposed solution realizes full proxy-to-proxy authentication at SIP level, enabling dynamic and secure WISP-to-WISP interworking. The proposed solution has been also implemented and successfully tested in a demonstrating testbed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
