An investigation of children's peer trust across culture: is the composition of peer trust universal?
The components of children's trust in same-gender peers (trust beliefs, ascribed trustworthiness, and dyadic reciprocal trust) were examined in samples of 8- to 11-year-olds from the UK, Italy, and Japan. Trust was assessed by children's ratings of the extent to which same-gender classmates kept promises and kept secrets. Social relations analyses confirmed that children from each country showed significant: (a) actor variance demonstrating reliable individual differences in trust beliefs, (b) partner variance demonstrating reliable individual differences in ascribed trustworthiness, and (c ) relationship variance demonstrating unique relationships between interaction partners. Cultural differences in trust beliefs and ascribed trustworthiness also emerged and these differences were attributed to the tendency for children from cultures that value societal goals to share personal information with the peer group

A lagged dependent variable, autocorrelated disturbances, and unit root tests - peculiar OLS bias properties - a pedagogical note
The paper provides applied econometricians with a useful insight into the interaction between lagged dependent variables and autocorrelated disturbances. More specifically, the paper explains heuristically why, how and when the bias of the OLS estimator of the coefficient of a lagged dependent variable can be smaller when the disturbances are autocorrelated than when they are NID. It also explains why and how the powers and sizes of some of the unit root tests are distorted by AR(1) and MA(1) disturbances. The results should be of interest to applied econometricians using vector autoregressive or error-correction models as well.
A Critical Evaluation of the Hawaii Housing Authority Housing Loan and Mortgage Program
The 1979 Hawaii State Legislature authorized the issuance of 100 million Hula Mae offering. Since high interest rates cause higher monthly mortgage payments, the Hula Mae program was geared towards “the gap group” - a group with income too high to qualify for federal rent subsidies, and too low to qualify for home ownership. The Hula Mae program was intended to provide an opportunity for home ownership to people who could not have qualified in any other way. The purpose of the Hula Mae program was to alleviate the shortage of long term financing at affordable interest rates, which the Legislature felt was a major cause of the continuing housing problem in Hawaii. This paper is designed to analyze the characteristics of the participants in the first Hula Mae offering and determine whether these borrowers could have qualified under various mortgage financing alternatives. The null hypothesis is: The Hula Mae program participants could not have qualified for alternative mortgage financing during the period of the Hula Mae loan program. The alternative hypothesis is: The Hula Mae program participants could have qualified for alternative mortgage financing during the period of the Hula Mae loan program
Structural aspects and interpretation of the piano works by Ricardo Tacuchian
This dissertation is based on complete piano works by the composer Ricardo Tacuchian (1939). These pieces are divided into three phases - National phase (1960s), experimental phase (1970s), and postmodern phase (since 80 to present days). The main objectives of the dissertation are: (1) contribute to bibliography of twentieth and twenty-first century music (2) promote contemporary Brazilian music and (3) focus on these piano pieces, emphasizing
structural and interpretative aspects to demonstrate a direct relationship between analysis and performance. Moreover, it addresses aspects related to tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture and structure. By utilization of various analythical techniques, the author illustrates the significance of each piece, formulating suggestions, and essential questions related to the performance. The methodology also treats aspects related to the pianistic preparation for the performance of each piece, and provides an analysis of materials, composition techniques employed, and how these elements are explored. Furthermore, a narrative process, establishes a rational solutions to solve features related to performance. Annexed to the text are an article on the T-system written by the composer himself, a glossary of underlined terms in the dissertation, and original English versions divided into chapters. The bibliography consists ofmateriaIs related to contemporary Brazilian music, musical analysis (materials and composition techniques), musical performance, and bibliographical materials related to the composer. The conclusion identifies the unifying elements of each piece, originality of the composer' s composition techniques of the composer (personal style), and elaborates on
suggestions for the performance of these piecesDoutoradoDoutor em Músic
