Il ‘problema Puccini’ nei periodici di Gatti

    No full text
La ricezione di Puccini nella prima metà del 900 lo ha relegato al ruolo d cantore delle piccole emozioni della media borghesia italiana; solo dopo il ventennio, anche grazie a critico come G.M. Gatti e M. Mila, se ne è avviata la rivalutazione anche dal punto di vista etico e socialeThe reception of Puccini in the first half of 900 relegated him to the consideration of "singer of the little emotions" of and for the Italian low-middle class; only after the fascist decades, due also to critics as G.M. Gatti e M. Mila, a revaluation has been started also from the ethical and social point of vie

The power of Web 2.0 storytelling to overcome knowledge sharing barriers

    No full text
Through a narrative review of the literature, this paper seeks to explore the importance of Web 2.0 Storytelling for overcoming barriers to knowledge sharing. While storytelling has been traditionally addressed as a valuable lever for many knowledge sharing issues, more recently, Web 2.0 technologies are becoming essential in enabling employees to participate in the creation, sharing and diffusion of knowledge. However, the link between Web 2.0 Storytelling and barriers to knowledge sharing behavior remains quite unexplored in the extant literature. By filling this gap, we pose the first pillars to explain this connection. Overall, our conceptual framework reveals that, since knowledge is something that resides in people, the extensive use of ICT tools may be not sufficient to capture the organizational advantages of knowledge sharing, if the human dimension is neglected. With this in mind, the twofold nature of Web 2.0 storytelling emerges as a powerful tool to manage the most important barriers to knowledge sharing. Such evidence may have meaningful implications for both theory and practice

Immediate loading of dental implants placed in severely resorbed edentulous mandibles reconstructed with autogenous calvarial grafts

    No full text
Objective: The aim of this prospective study was to present the clinical outcome of immediately loaded dental implants placed in edentulous, severely atrophied mandibles, after reconstruction with autogenous multilayered calvarial grafts. Materials and methods: Six patients, two males and four females, aged 40–67 years (mean: 56 years) presenting with severely atrophied edentulous mandibles (Cawood and Howell class VI), were reconstructed with multilayered calvarial bone grafts placed in the intraforaminal area of the mandible. Five to 8 months afterwards, 23 dental implants were placed in the reconstructed areas (three to four implants per patient) and immediately loaded with implant-supported overdentures. Patients were followed with clinical and radiographic controls annually. Results: Recovery after the reconstruction was uneventful in all patients. All 23 implants were osseointegrated 1–3 years after the start of immediate loading. The survival and success rates of implants were 100% and 95.7%, respectively. Conclusion: Results from this study showed that immediate loading of dental implants placed in severely atrophied edentulous mandibles reconstructed with calvarial bone grafts is a predictable procedure, which permits a successful dental rehabilitation with a shortening of treatment times. In the last decade, immediate loading of dental implants has confirmed to be a reliable means for the rehabilitation of partially or totally edentulous patients (Balshi & Wolfinger 1997; Chiapasco et al. 1997, 2001; Schnitman 1997; Tarnow et al. 1997; Gatti et al. 2000; Jaffin et al. 2000; Malo` et al. 2000; Chiapasco 2004). The shortening of treatment times without jeopardizing the long-term survival of dental implant

Conflict of Legal Bases and the Internal-External Security Nexus: AFSJ versus CFSP

    No full text
The choice of legal bases may seem a question of technical detail, but has significant constitutional implications. However, there are considerable doubts about the delimitation of two functionally overlapping areas: the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Area of Freedom Security and Justice (AFSJ). Three post-Lisbon judgments – Smart sanctions (2012), Mauritius (2014) and Tanzania (2016) – may potentially shed some light on this topic. The present contribution analyses the case law, distilling the elements that, according to the Court, may allow EU institutions to properly identify the legal bases of security-related acts. The analysis also elucidates the shortcomings in the reasoning of the Court and suggests alternative solutions that might increase legal clarity

Global energy budgets in turbulent Couette and Poiseuille flows

Turbulent plane Poiseuille and Couette flows share the same geometry, but produce their flow rate owing to different external drivers: pressure gradient and shear, respectively. By looking at integral energy fluxes, we pose and answer the question as to which flow performs better at creating flow rate. We define a flow efficiency, which quantifies the fraction of power used to produce flow rate instead of being wasted as a turbulent overhead; effectiveness, instead, describes the amount of flow rate produced by a given power. The work by Gatti et al. (J. Fluid Mech., vol. 857, 2018, pp. 345–373), where the constant power input concept was developed to compare turbulent Poiseuille flows with drag reduction, is here extended to compare different flows. By decomposing the mean velocity field into a laminar contribution and a deviation, analytical expressions are derived which are the energy-flux equivalents of the FIK identity. These concepts are applied to literature data supplemented by a new set of direct numerical simulations, to find that Couette flows are less efficient but more effective than Poiseuille flows. The reason is traced to the more effective laminar component of Couette flows, which compensates for their higher turbulent activity. It is also observed that, when the fluctuating fields of the two flows are fed with the same total power fraction, Couette flows dissipate a smaller percentage of it via turbulent dissipation. A decomposition of the fluctuating field into large and small scales explains this feature: Couette flows develop stronger large-scale structures, which alter the mean flow while contributing less significantly to dissipation
