One of the outstanding scholars of the field of Moroccan travel literature was Muh?ammad b. Muh?ammad al-T?ayyib b. Muh?ammad b. Musa b. Muh?ammad al-Sharqi al-Sumayli, al-Fasi al-Madani. Born in the city of Fez in 1110/1698. He studied with some of the most known scholars of Morocco at that time including Abu al-cAbbas Ah?mad al-Misnawi, Abu cAbdullah Muh?ammad al-Misnawi, Abu al-cAbbas Ah?mad al-Fasi and Abu T?ahir Muhammad al-Kurani. Having acquired his early education in his home country he emigrated eastward to Tunisia, Libya, Egypt and finally to Medinah where he died in 1170/1756 after living and teaching there for many years. It is not surprising then that this great scholar left behind him a treasure of works in a variety of fields; indeed we find Ibn al-T?ayyib wrote many works, including four in jurisprudence, three in h?adith and sixteen in grammar and in linguistics. Despite this however many of his academic contributions remain in manuscript form and therefore are inaccessible to the greater majority. One such work is “Rih?lah il a al-H?ijaz,” which is particularly important to the field of travel literature as it represents a major contribution. This is because Ibn al-T?ayyib came relatively late, historically, compared to other travel writers. In addition, it contains many minute details, which the author took care to record during his journey from place to place. It also contains accounts of everything he saw and his comments regarding the social, economic and political conditions of the countries he visited, as well as comments about the scholars whom he was able to meet. This work is important also because it is considered the most important reference for the author’s life, culture and is an important literary reference in terms of the poetry and prose, classical and modern, eastern and western, that it contains. In addition it accounts for both literary and religious scholars, the linguistic derivations of geographical names and draws attention to the mistakes of those who wrote about them before him. Bearing in mind the great significance of this work from a variety of aspects this thesis involves the complete revision, editing, annotation and authentication of the manuscript including the correction of missing characters and providing available information and biographical notes on the text

Measuring industry-science links through inventor-author relations: A profiling method

No full text
In this pilot study we examine the performance of text-based profiling in recovering a set of validated inventor-author links. In a first step we match patents and publications solely based on their similarity in content. Next, we compare inventor and author names on the highest ranked matches for the occurrence of name matches. Finally, we compare these candidate matches with the names listed in a validated set of inventor-author names. Our text-based profile methodology performs significantly better than a random matching of patents and publications, suggesting that text-based profiling is a valuable complementary tool to the name searches used in previous studies.innovation; industry-science links; text-based profiling;

A molecular dynamics study of N-A-S-H gel with various Si/Al ratios

The understanding of sodium aluminosilicate hydrate (N-A-S-H) gel is still limited due to its complex and amorphous structure. Recently, molecular dynamics simulation has provided a unique opportunity to better understand the structure of N-A-S-H gel from nanoscale. In this work, the N-A-S-H gel structure was obtained by simulating the polymerization of Si and Al monomers by molecular dynamics. The simulated polymerization process is in good agreement with the experimental results especially in terms of the reaction rate of Si and Al species. The atomic structural features of the N-A-S-H gel were analyzed in terms of bond length and bond angle information, simulated X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Qn distribution. A significant finding is the existence of pentacoordinate Al in all simulated N-A-S-H structures, indicating that pentacoordinate Al in geopolymer does not only come from raw material. Besides, the results show that a smaller Si/Al ratio led to a more crosslinked and compacted structure of N-A-S-H gel

With a view of the Mediterranean cultural cohesion, the methodological framework of this comparative/ethnopoetics-grounded research gathers anthropological sources on the North African/Sicilian area and the related folk literary studies so as to argue the epistemological value of the symbol of the “severed head” as it cross-temporally appears/evolves within these two linked cultural heritages. Moreover, my paper argues how both Italian Renaissance literature and hagiographic sources on the Muslim martyr Ḥussein, drew upon the iconic role of the “severed head” as the examples of Giovanni Boccaccio and ʽAbd Allah ar-Rifāʽī could sho

Excavation at the bronze age tower of al-Khutm (Bāt, Sultanate of Oman): A preliminary evaluation of the monument (poster)

No full text
Together with other towers of Bāt and tombs of al-'Ayn (al-Zāhirah region), the tower of al-Khutm is one of the monuments inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list of the Sultanate of Oman. A recent programme of investigations, led by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture of Oman and carried out by an Italian team, began in October 2015 and continued until June 2016 with the aim of completely uncovering the monument and enhancing its value. In this paper, we present the results of the excavations that allowed us to expose the overall plan of the tower and to detect the main features of the interior. The investigation revealed several additional structures nearby, connected with the use of the tower and belonging to several phases of occupation of the site. Among the most interesting results are the reasonable preservation of the outside wall; the presence of inner rooms with entrances and thresholds that are usually not preserved in other similar monuments; a possible pathway to enter the tower; and several other finds, including archaeobotanical remains of charred stone dates, cereals, and fruits. Some final remarks about the 3-D documentation carried out on a daily basis during the excavation will be presented for a discussion about the evolving methods of archaeological excavations

Content comparison of patient-reported outcome instruments used to measure burnout

No full text
The aim of this article is to compare the content of patient-reported outcome (PRO) burnout measures and to examine the degree of overlap between them and psychosocial difficulties (PSD) experienced by persons with burnout. The most frequently used PRO and qualitative studies were identified in two systematic literature reviews. Psychosocial difficulties identified in both sources were standardized and a qualitative content comparison was performed. Seven PROs and seven qualitative studies were selected. Energy and drive, emotional functions and work were key themes of both sources. Disparities were observed for problems in areas such as sleep, attention or family relationships, which were reported in several qualitative studies, but are seldom addressed in PROs. Several areas important to persons with burnout, such as family relationships, are seldom measured by currently used PROs. From a biopsychosocial perspective, these instruments cannot therefore be considered comprehensive enough to capture the whole experience of burnout and should be improved.<br/

من أجل تحقيق هذا الغرض، أردت أن تكون مقالتي وعملي في هذه الندوة على هذا الكتاب من جانب طرق الاستدلال العقديّ التي بني عليها، وجعلت لها عنوانا باسم: "استخراج أصول الأدلة العقلية العقدية من العقيدة البرهانية لأبي عمرو عثمان السلالجي (ت. 574هـ)".The book “al-ʿAqīdah al-Burhāniyyah” is a book of theology in Ashʿari’s school and it played a very important role to officialise the Ash'ari faith in the western part of Islamic world. It was officially used in the oldest university in the world; the University of Qarawiyyen in Fez. This proves how important this book is, as it becomes the pillar for the Sanussi’s creed which is a major prevailing creed for Ash’ari’s school in the ninth century AH to the present day. This book was written by one of the greatest Ashairah scholars of the western part of Islamic world, which is Imam Abū ʿAmr ʿUthmān al-Salālijī‚, who lived in the period of the Almoravids and Almohads and died in 574 AH. He was a student at University of Qarawiyyīn in Fez and later become a professor there. He is also one of those who greatly responsible for the wide spreading of the Ash'ari’s school in the western part of the Islamic world; and making it the official and most followed schools for the people there, specifically in the Kingdom of Morocco who remain firm in Ashāʿirah school till today. Although this book is not well known in this era, it is not because of its absence of added value that could benefits our researchers today, instead, it contains many important issues and theological inferences, such as "the invalidity of evidence/causation does not authorize the invalidity of the meaning/cause", and "inference: validity of one thing can relies on the validity of his counterparts/equal, while on the same basis, his invalidity/impossibility can also relies on the invalidity/impossibility of his counterparts/equal" and others. On this basis, this book was called "Prooved Creed"; full of explanation based on logical argument and reasoning. As we already know that Islamic theology and belief was based on arguments and evidence, it is important to also realise the necessity of knowing the methods and inference. The method and the process to reach the result/goal is considered as important as the result itself; if the process/methodology is corrupted, the results will also be corrupted, and likewise if the process/methods is valid then the result follows. Without the correct methodology, we are like such a doctor who seeks to treat his patients by treating the symptoms rather than the disease that led to it. Application of the treatment is useless as long as the origin of the disease remains in the patient's body. Systematic and methodological study is important in revealing the “truth” of the evidence/symptom of it. In order to achieve this purpose, I wanted my article and my work in this symposium to be on the analysis of this book, specifically on the part of deriving the theological evidence on which it was built, thus the title for this paper is justified: Extracting the source of theological logic evidence from “al-ʿAqīdah al-Burhāniyyah” by Abū ʿAmr ʿUthmān al-Salālijī (died 574 H)

Triazole-Assisted Ruthenium-Catalyzed C-H Arylation of Aromatic Amides

No full text
Site-selective ruthenium(II)-catalyzed direct arylation of amides was achieved through C-H cleavages with modular auxiliaries, derived from easily accessible 1,2,3-triazoles. The triazolyldimethylmethyl (TAM) bidentate directing group was prepared in a highly modular fashion through copper(I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition and allowed for ruthenium-catalyzed C-H arylations on arenes and heteroarenes, as well as alkenes, by using easy-to-handle aryl bromides as the arylating reagents. The triazole-assisted C-H activation strategy was found to be widely applicable, to occur under mild reaction conditions, and the catalytic system was tolerant of important electrophilic functionalities. Notably, the flexible triazole-based auxiliary proved to be a more potent directing group for the optimized ruthenium(II)-catalyzed direct arylations, compared with pyridylsubstituted amides or substrates derived from 8-aminoquinoline

al-Misbāh fī al-Nahw By Nāsir al-Dīn al-Mutarrizī al-Nahwī (d. 610/1213) A Critical Edition of the Text with the Life History of the Author

No full text
Nāsir al-Dīn al-Mutarrizī al-Nahwī (d.610/1213) was one of the most renowned figures in the field of Arabic Grammar. He has left an indelible mark on the world of Arabic language and literature. He is also known as the successor of al-Zamakhsharī. He wrote a number of books but his al-Misbāh fī al-Nahw gained prominence at a level that no other book in this field could claim to achieve. For this reason, a great number of commentaries have been written in every age, of which the most famous are al-Daw and Khulāsat al-I‘rāb written by Tāj al-Dīn al-Isfrā’īnī and ‘Abd al- Karīm al-Tūsī (better known as Hājjī Bābā) respectively. Moreover, its translation into other languages also demonstrates its value as a useful book. Although al-Misbāh has been edited on more than one occasion, the published editions do not fulfil the needs and requirements of modern academic research criteria. The basic aim of this thesis is to present this book with a current modern research style so that the students, teachers and ordinary readers of Arabic language and literature may benefit from this work. This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part deals with the life history of the author and his other works. A brief note of the environment under which he grew up (generally referred to as the ‘Seljuk’ period) is also included in this part. The second part consists of a text edition that deals with the derivation (Takhrīj) of syntactical issues together with the differing opinions of grammarians on syntactical/grammatical issues. This part also proffers the idiomatic English translation of al-Misbāh

High-Resolution Model for Segmenting and Predicting Brain Tumor Based on Deep UNet with Multi Attention Mechanism

No full text
The research presents a new technique for segmenting brain tumors using the UNet framework enhanced with an attention mechanism. By incorporating attention processes that selectively emphasize prominent aspects while recording comprehensive contextual information, our strategy overcomes the challenges of brain tumor delineation. The suggested UNet-attention model is intended to outperform traditional segmentation techniques regarding precision and clinical applicability. Integrating spatial and channel attention processes into the UNet design is one of our study's significant achievements. The spatial attention mechanism's focus improves the capacity of the model to differentiate the mechanism's tumor and non-tumor areas. Also, incorporating contextual clues from multi-scale hierarchies allows for a thorough comprehension of visual properties. The discrete wavelet transform has been applied as a feature extraction method to enhance the model performance regarding time and memory consumption. A wide range of datasets is evaluated in-depth, proving our UNet-attention model's superiority. Advanced deep learning is made possible by combining attention processes and contextual data to delineate tumors precisely and clinically. Many evaluation criteria involving dice scores, accuracy, mean IoU, sensitivity, specificity, and Hausdorff distance have been applied to evaluate our model performance in different aspects. The model attained a dice coefficient of 0.9971. The model's specificity of 0.9988 is particularly noteworthy, demonstrating its exceptional ability to identify regions without tumors accurately. The model also achieved 0.9986 accuracies, 0.9142 mean IoU, Hausdorff distance (mm) 3.48. These evaluation values were obtained for applying our model on flair images from BraTS 2020
