Inoltre, verranno scardinati alcuni stereotipi sull’autismo.Franco (the father of a son with autism) transforms the organizational needs of the family into an opportunity to learn more about their son. The overseas holidays will allow the author to learn more about himself and his son. In addition, they will be undermined some stereotypes about autism
Through the history of his life story and his autism, the author deals with some issues currently under consideration both for the academic world and for the community. Among the topics discussed there are: the creation of a specific didactics for the person, the inclusion of school and inclusion in the job for people with autism
The author describes her own story as a mother of a Down child with autism. In the discussion explodes issues such as gender difference in the education of the child by the parents, the role of brothers and educational differences between Italian and American educational system
Through is life's history, the author describes autism and some theories such as deficits in executive functioning or “conflict of motivation" from his point of view. It also provides useful information for those who want to prepare educational programs for people with autism spectrum
In vivo studies: spinal imaging
Imaging techniques are a keystone for diagnosing and monitoring spinal disorders and are widely used in both clinical practice and research studies. Planar X-rays are employed to assess spinal morphology, to assess spinal motion in cases of suspect instability and after implantation of motion-preserving devices, and to identify bone-related disorders such as fractures. Because of the possibility of acquiring scans in various postures, including standing, planar X-rays are widely used to measure relevant anatomical parameters in spinal deformities such as scoliosis and sagittal disorders. Magnetic resonance imaging, which does not employ ionizing radiation and is the gold standard for the characterization of intervertebral disc degeneration, is commonly used for soft tissue imaging. Other frequently used techniques include computed tomography, ultrasonography, and surface topography. After a brief introduction of the various techniques, this chapter describes their uses in spinal imaging, with a special focus on the aspects that are particularly important in biomechanical in vivo studies, such as the analysis of spinal motion
The article reflects on the necessary skills and the most appropriate methodologies to use iconic and audiovisual images in the didactic field, overcoming the simple level of self-referential illustration and vice versa developing skills with respect to the critical sense, interpretation and design and realization of products consistent views
Experimental orthopedic biomechanics
The Chapter provides a wide overview of the experimental techniques currently used in the field of orthopedic biomechanics. The Chapter is organized into three main sections. The first section is dedicated to “experimental tests at the organ and tissue levels, " including the techniques meant to characterize the mechanical properties of hard (i.e. bone), soft (i.e. ligaments), and biphasic and poroelastic tissues (i.e. cartilage) at different scales. The second section is focused on the “experimental tests on implants and prostheses, " often including the integration of implants with dedicated transducers (i.e. pressure sensors) and/or strain measurements (i.e. surface analysis with digital image correlation), which are used during in vitro and in vivo tests. The third section presents the state-of-the-art on the major joint simulators (hip, knee, spine). For each methodology, the basic principles are briefly recalled, and their utility is explained providing extensive references and examples from the orthopedic field.SCOPUS: ch.binfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe
A sé e agli altri.
The book talks about the research made by checking the medical records of female and male of ex-asylums of St. Servolo and St. Clement.
The medical records examined by the authors have allowed us to find a “fil rouge” between the approach to the disease of the past and today's prejudices, stereotypes and clichés. They show, in fact, that the disease is not necessarily for all times
