Is There an Opportunity to Establish the Social-Capitalism in the Post Socialist Transition?

    No full text
Recently Claus Offe has put the question that concerns the fate of the European model of social capitalism: Can the model of social capitalism survive the European integration in the context of certain contemporary tendencies? Offe has presupposed that the mentioned model is challenged by the processes of globalization and the integration of the post socialist countries into the European Union. The working hypothesis of the article is that there is an opportunity to provide a coherent answer to this question. The article consists of two parts. In the first part the author starts with the Polanyis socio-economic theory and emphasises the importance of this approach for the analysing of the tendencies of capitalism in Western Europe and in the post socialist countries. The author argues that with the Polanyis theory we are able to explicate the forms of the embedded liberalism in Western Europe after 1945 and the orientation of non-embedded neo-liberalism and the functioning of the workfare state after the crisis of the Keynesian welfare state. Despite the tendencies of the globalisation projected by neo-liberalism, the central element of the social capitalism, namely, the welfare state, remains with the dimensions of the continuity. In the next part the author points out that there is an asymmetrical structure between the Western-Europe and non-Western part of Europe concerning the socialisation of capitalism. The neoliberalisation in accordance with the model of the transfer of ideal-type of capitalism is more strongly implemented in the countries of transition. In addition, the mentioned theoretical approach provides opportunities to explain the failures of implementing of neo-liberalism in the post socialist countries. On the basis of the endorsing of the socio-economic aspects we can adress the issue pointed out by Offe.Karl Polanyi, Transition, Social capitalism, Welfare state

    Neoliberalism: Befall or Respite?

    No full text
The authors of this argumentative article emphasize that the range of the current crisis cannot be depleted in the diagnosis which is based on cyclic consideration. It is both systematic and structural, which is derived from the genesis and the modus of neoliberalism, which has become dominant during the previous decades. Other than that, it is emphasized that the current crisis is “great”, because it forces relevant actors to face the structural characteristics of contemporary shareholder-capitalism. The crisis also puts to a test the self-reflection of the economic science which faces certain deficits. The authors believe that, given the tendencies in today’s economy, there can be different scenarios for exiting the crisis and projecting a new modus of capitalism in the following period. Having in mind the openness of the present and the uncertainty of the future, the authors describe those scenarios without projecting which one of them will be dominant.Capitalism, Crisis, Neoliberalism, Cyclic, System, Structure

A valorização do sistema de recompensas na ótica do colaborador : um caso prático na empresa Alpar do Brasil

    No full text
Rewards system linked to the employees' extrinsic motivation has continuously been a topic of great concern for managers. The goal of this investigation is to identify whether the company Alpar do Brasil has a Reward System valued by its employees or not. This recognition is the result of the description of various salary components valuation. Initially, a theoretical contextualization is carried out, through secondary bibliographic analysis, then, an empirical study is carried out, in which is used a quantitative method (application of a survey to the employees of the company Alpar do Brasil). The analysis of the results here obtained allows us to proceed for the hierarchy of various components of the wage system, based on the Analyzing Constant-Sum Scale. This survey was applied in July 2020 to a total of 59 employees. The analysis of the results of this survey allows us to conclude that the company has a Rewards System valued by its employees, regarding the extrinsic components and the fact that the components that are currently part of the Rewards System are more valued than those that it does not include. Regarding the hierarchy of components, it is observed that the base salary is the most valued, given the fact that it is a fixed and guaranteed amount, followed by fuel and food subsidies paid in card, study aid, the Participation Plan for Results and the unofficial benefit of receiving discount to purchase products sold by the company, known as Alpar Shop. The results here found make possible some future suggestions, such as, the introduction of a fixed salary (job position and salary plan - BR), considering that this component doesn’t exist in Alpar System

Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of hybrid learning pedagogy in a redesigned diabetes nursing course for senior nursing students in enhancing knowledge and skills related to diabetes education. Methods: A single-group pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design were used. The study was conducted between January-June 2018 in a state university's nursing department in Istanbul, Turkey. Sixteen senior nursing students were included in the sample group of the study. Results: It was detected that the Insülin Injection Skill Checklist (II-SC) post-test score, Blood Glucose Measurement Skill Checklist (BGM-SC) post-test score, and Educational Skills Checklist (ESC) post-test score were significantly higher than the pre-test scores. There was a significant difference between the Mini Exams (ME) pre-test and post-test scores of participants for each online lesson. Conclusions: The study results showed that a hybrid learning-based diabetes nursing course effectively increases the knowledge and skills of students regarding diabetes education

Postglitch relaxation of the Crab pulsar after its first four major glitches: The combined effects of crust cracking, formation of vortex depletion region and vortex creep

    No full text
Following the application of vortex creep theory (Alpar et al. 1984; Alpar et al. 1993; Chau et al. 1993) to the postglitch behavior of the Vela pulsar, we extend the model to cover the postglitch behavior of the Crab pulsar (Alpar et al. 1994). We propose that the comparatively modest (ΔΩ/Ω ∼ 10 -8) and somewhat infrequent (∼6 yr interglitch intervals) Crab pulsar glitches are caused by crust cracking during starquakes induced by pulsar spin-down (Ruderman 1976; Baym & Pines 1971). We attribute the anomalous postglitch behavior (an occasional extended spin-up and a long-term response opposite in sign to that seen in the Vela pulsar [see Lyne, Graham-Smith, & Pritchard 1992]) to postglitch response to inward vortex bunching into newly formed vortex traps during a quake. The persistent shift in the angular acceleration Ω c following a glitch is attributed to the creation of a new vortex depletion region (Alpar & Pines 1993). The different postglitch behavior for the Crab and Vela pulsars can be understood on evolutionary grounds (Alpar et al. 1994). © 1996. The American Astronomical Society. Nursing education in Turkey: From past to present

    No full text
Nursing education in Turkey first began in 1912 with the introduction of a 6-month course to train voluntary medical attendants, with Dr. Besim Omer Pasha's advice to the Red Crescent Association regarding the inadequacy of healthcare services. as a crucial need for nursing services resulted due to significant losses given during Tripoli (1911) and the Balkan (1912) wars. Carrying out their duties in battlefields and hospitals with great devotion. the first nurses graduated from the course played a significant role in promoting the nursing profession and its importance. Nursing education which used to continue at the secondary and high-school levels increased to bachelor's level in 1955. Master's program in nursing was opened in 1968, and Ph.D. programs was opened in 1972. Professional members of the practice, well-equipped in accordance with the requirements of the age, who conduct their studies at the national and international levels, are trained as the consequence of the recent developments in nursing education. The number of nurses at the universities who offered higher levels of academic degree, and especially the number of nurses who gained 'science expert' title at the inpatient medical establishments has increased. This situation and globalization, which ensures an easier access to nursing literature through internet, enable a more systematic and of a better quality healthcare. This article explains the nursing education in Turkey from past to present. The developments in nursing education which have taken place in Turkey are expressed in a chronological order, starting from the Ottoman Empire, until the present. Compared with other countries, nursing education is given on different levels in Turkey. Recently, however, the obstacles regarding the differences especially at the bachelor's degree level were overcome, appropriate changes were made, and education melioration efforts gained speed. No full text
Objective: The purpose of this revisited study was to compare the clinical efficacy and long-term scar evaluation of a hydrophilic polyurethane membrane (HPM), Omiderm (Omikron Scientific Ltd., Rehovot, Israel) and an antimicrobial tulle-gras dressing (TGD), Bactigras (Smith & Nephew) in the management of partial-thickness burns. Method: Patients with partial-thickness burns were enrolled in this prospective study. Burn areas were divided into two areas and both dressings were applied to each field at the same time. Time to full re-epithelialisation and scar evaluation were compared using the Vancouver Scar Scale (VSS). Results: A total of 21 patients, mean age 36.8 years, with 22 burns areas participated. The results showed that there is no statistically significant difference in terms of full epithelialisation time in the application of either dressing (p>0.05). However, with deep dermal burns, the HPM provided slightly faster epithelialisation (p>0.05). A VSS assessment showed no statistically significant difference (p>0.05) between applying either dressing materials. Conclusion: This study indicated that both dressings had the same effectiveness in treatment of partial-thickness burn wounds. However, the use of the HPM, especially in deep dermal second-degree burns, should be one of the first-line clinical choices, based on the advantages discerned by this study
