Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Role of pion-pion interaction in τ-decay

No full text
The effect of the pion-pion interaction on the anisotropy of the decay pions in τ-decay and on the τ'/τ-branching ratio is studied here, following the formalism of a recent paper by Dalitz. The π-π interaction is assumed to be of the resonant Breit Wigner type in the isobaric spin states I = 0 and I = 2. It is found that the assumption. of an I = 2 resonance can satisfactorily explain the experimental figures for the momentum distribution of the unlike pion as well as the τ'/τ-branching ratio. This result serves as a supporting evidence for a recent deduction by the author of an I = 2 resonance within the framework of the pseudoscalar meson theory

Lepton polarization correlations in B→K∗τ-τ+

In this work we will study the polarizations of both leptons (τ) in the decay channel B→K∗τ-τ+. In the case of the dileptonic inclusive decay B→K∗l-l+, where apart from the polarization asymmetries of a single lepton l, one can also observe the polarization asymmetries of both leptons simultaneously. If this sort of measurement is possible then we can have, apart from decay rate, forward backward asymmetry and the six single lepton polarization asymmetries (three each for l- and l+), nine more double polarization asymmetries. This will give us a very useful tool in more strict testing of the standard model (SM) and the physics beyond. We discuss the double polarization asymmetries of the τ leptons in the decay mode B→K∗τ-τ+ within the SM and the minimal supersymmetric extension of it
