    Extended dust emission in NGC 7465

    We present SCUBA 850-μm, JCMT CO(J=2→1), B-band imaging and VLA H i observations of the NGC 7465/4/3 group of galaxies. The 850-μm emission associated with NGC 7465 extends to at least ∼2R25 and is well correlated with the H i. We investigate a range of possible mechanisms by which dust beyond R25 may be heated to give the observed extended submillimetre emission. By modelling the dust heating by stars in two extreme geometries, we fail to find any reasonable star formation scenario that is consistent with both the 850-μm and optical data. Furthermore, we do not detect any CO(J=2→1) emission coincident with the extended dust and atomic gas as would be expected if significant star formation were occurring. We show that shock-heating of dust via cloud-cloud collisions in the stripped interstellar medium of NGC 7465 could be sufficient to explain the extended 850-μm emission and lack of optical emission in the stripped gas, and suggest that cloud-cloud collisions may be an important dust heating mechanism in gas-rich systems

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    The purpose of the research was to investigate the influence of Stannum (IV) and Germanium (IV) coordination compounds on peptidases 1 and 2 of Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis ІМV В-7465 activity. The study of coordination compounds effect on peptidase activity was carried out by complexes with the enzymes incubation and residual activity in relation to collagen, elastin and fibrin determination. It was revealed the regularities in the influence of different structure complex compounds on peptidases of B. thuringiensis var. israelensis ІМV В-7465 activity. Stannum (IV) complexes with salicyloylhydrazones of aromatic aldehydes increase collagenase and elastase activities. Substituents replacement in aldehyde fragment of Stannum (IV) complexes with isonicotinoylhydrazones of aromatic aldehydes by the less polar ones contributed to increase of elastase activity of both enzymes while an absence of substituents enables to increase peptidase 2 fibrinolytic activity. The different metal complexes of Germanium (IV) with isonicotinoylhydrazone of salicylic aldehyde, which contain Zn and Co, increased collagenase activity of the peptidase 1 as well as elastase and fibrinolytic activities of the peptidase 2. In general, all tested complexes may be considered as peptidase effectors of B. thuringiensis var. israelensis ІМV В-7465. The difference of complexes effect on activities of the both enzymes is due to the characteristics of the structure of coordination compoundsМетою роботи було дослідити вплив координаційних сполук стануму (IV) та германію (IV) на активність пептидаз 1 і 2 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis ІМВ В-7465. Вивчення впливу координаційних сполук на активність пептидаз здійснювали інкубуванням комплексів з ензимом та визначенням залишкової активності щодо колагену, еластину і фібрину. Було виявлено закономірності впливу комплексних сполук різної структури на активність пептидаз 1 і 2 B. thuringiensis var. israelensis ІМВ В-7465. Комплекси Sn(IV) із саліцилоїлгідразона- ми ароматичних альдегідів підвищують колагеназну та еластазну активність. Заміна замісників в альдегідному фрагменті комплексів Sn(IV) з ізонікотиноїлгідразонами ароматичних альдегідів на менш полярні сприяла збільшенню еластазної активності обох ензимів. Водночас відсутність замісників дає змогу збільшити фібринолітичну ак- тивність тільки пептидази 2. Різнометальні комплекси германію з ізонікотиноїлгідразоном саліцилового альдегіду, до складу яких входять цинк і кобальт, підвищували колагеназну активність пептидази 1, а також еластазну і фібринолітичну активність пептидази 2. Загалом усі досліджені комплекси можна розглядати як ефектори пептидаз B. thuringiensis var. israelensis ІМВ В-7465. Відмінність у впливі комплексів на активність обох ензимів зумовлена характеристиками будови координаційних сполук.Целью работы было исследовать влияние координационных соединений станума (IV) и германия (IV) на активность пептидаз 1 и 2 Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis ИМВ В-7465. Изучение влияния координационных соединений на активность пептидаз осуществляли инкубированием комплексов с энзимом и определением остаточной активности по отношению к коллагену, эластину и фибрину. Были выявлены закономерности влияния комплексных соединений различной структуры на активность пептидаз 1 и 2 B. thuringiensis var. israelensis ИМВ В-7465. Комплексы Sn(IV) с салицилоилгидразонами ароматических альдегидов повышают коллагеназную и эластазную активность. Замена заместителей в альдегидном фрагменте комплексов Sn(IV) с изоникотиноилгидразонами ароматических альдегидов на менее полярные приводила к повышению эластазной активности обоих энзимов. В то же время отсутствие заместителей позволило повысить фибринолитическую активность только пептидазы 2. Разнометалльные комплексы германия с изоникотиноилгидразоном салицилового альдегида, в состав которых входят цинк и кобальт, повышали коллагеназную активность пептидазы 1, а также эластазную и фибринолитическую активность пептидазы 2. Таким образом, все исследованные комплексы могут выступать в качестве эффекторов пептидаз B. thuringiensis var. israelensis ИМВ В-7465.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    The evolution of NGC 7465 as revealed by its molecular gas properties

    We present ALMA observations of CO isotopologues and high-density molecular tracers (HCN, HCO+, CN, etc.) in NGC 7465, an unusually gas-rich early-type galaxy that acquired its cold gas recently. In the inner 300 pc, the molecular gas kinematics are misaligned with respect to all other galaxy components; as the gas works its way inward it is torqued into polar orbits about the stellar kinematically-decoupled core (KDC), indicating that the stellar KDC is not related to the current gas accretion event. The galaxy also exhibits unusually high 12CO/13CO line ratios in its nucleus but typical 13CO/C18O ratios. Our calculations show that this result does not necessarily indicate an unusual [12CO/13CO] abundance ratio but rather that 12CO (1-0) is optically thin due to high temperatures and/or large linewidths associated with the inner decoupled, misaligned molecular structure. Line ratios of the higher-density tracers suggest that the densest phase of molecular gas in NGC 7465 has a lower density than is typical for nearby galaxies, possibly as a result of the recent gas accretion. All of the observed molecular properties of NGC 7465 are consistent with it having acquired its molecular (and atomic) gas from a spiral galaxy. Further detailed studies of the CO isotopologues in other early-type galaxies would be valuable for investigating the histories of those that may have acquired their gas from dwarfs. Finally, these ALMA data also show an unidentified line source that is probably a background galaxy similar to those found at z=1-3 in blind CO surveys
