Corrosion behavior of 6092 A1/25% SiC [subscript p] metal matrix composite
The localized corrosion behavior of 6092 Al/25% SiCP (6092 Aluminum alloy+ 25% Silicon Carbide particulate) metal matrix composite (MMC) in marine environments has been evaluated. Some 6092 Al/25% SiCP MMC applications include primary and secondary aircraft structures. Electrochemical tests, stress corrosion tests and crevice corrosion tests were performed to evaluate susceptibility of this material to localized corrosion. Various tests were conducted in 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution (by weight), tap water, a mixture of 3.5% NaCl and 5% Na2cro4 aqueous solution (by weight), and salt fog. Optical observations, a SEM and a metalograph were employed to aid in determining type of corrosion present on the MMC. Electrochemical studies show that corrosion potential (Ecorr) is a function of pH. However, electrochemical studies show that breakdown potential (Eb) is not a function of pH. As expected, electrochemical studies indicated that the 6092 Al/25% SiCp showed similar passivation ~ characteristics to 6xxx aluminum alloys. Stress corrosion susceptibility was seen above Eb. In alternate immersion conditions, 6092 Al/20% sicp was susceptible to crevice corrosion when immersed in 3.5% NaCl or tap water environments. For salt fog exposure, 6092 Al/20% SiCp was susceptible to crevice corrosion. Two primary recommendations were made as a result of this research: (1) investigations should be made to determine whether techniques for protecting aluminum would be suitable for protecting 6092 Al/SiCP MMCs and (2) the supplier attempt to modify manufacturing techniques to provide more uniformity in mechanical properties.California State University, Northridge. Fatigue crack growth rate and fracture of silicon carbide particulate reinforced 6092 aluminum alloy composites
Silicon carbide particulate reinforced composites are used in many applications ranging from sporting goods to ground and air transportation. Understanding the fatigue crack growth and fracture behavior of these composites will provide a means to design safer engineering systems. This project's primary goals were to measure fatigue crack growth rates of silicon carbide (SiC) particulate reinforced composites and characterize their fracture morphology and behavior, over a range of silicon carbide reinforcement volume fractions . In addition, the effect of extrusion, on crack growth rates and fracture morphology was explored. The experimental results obtained show increasing crack growth rates with increasing SiC volume fractions . The growth rates found in the 6092/SiC/17.5p composite were lower for both the extruded and the as-fabricated condition than for the 6092/SiC/25p composites. Evaluating the data at 10 ksiJ;;� , the 6092/SiC/17.5p composite had the lowest fatigue crack growth at 0.9 x 10-6 to 2.5 x 10-6 in./cycle. The as fabricated 6092/SiC/ 17.5p, was next with a crack growth rate range of 1.0 x 1 o-6 to 3.0 x 10-6 in./cycle, followed by the 25 v/o extrusion with a range of 3.0 x 10-6 to 3.5 x 10-6 in./cycle. The unreinforced 6092 had the greatest fatigue crack growth rate with a range of 3.2 x 10-6 to 3.6 x 10-6 in./cycle.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 83-84)California State University, Northridge. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
