Computer adaptive language testing according to NATO STANAG 6001 requirements
Get PDFThe article deals with the innovative, cutting age solution within the language testing realm, namely computer adaptive language testing (CALT) in accordance with the NATO Standardization Agreement 6001 (NATO STANAG 6001) requirements for further implementation in foreign language training of personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AF of Ukraine) in order to increase the quality of foreign language testing. The research provides the CALT method developed according to NATO STANAG 6001 requirements and the CALT algorithm that contains three blocks: “Starting point”, “Item selection algorithm”, “Scoring algorithm” and “Termination criterion”. The CALT algorithm has an adaptive ability, changing a complexity level, sequence and the number of items according to the answers of a test taker. The comparative analysis of the results of the CALT method piloting and the paper-and-pencil testing (PPT) in reading and listening according to the NATO STANAG 6001 requirements justifies the effectiveness of the three-level CALT method. It allows us to determine the following important benefits of CALT: test length reduction, control of measurement accuracy, objective assessment, improved test security, generation of a unique set of items, adaptive ability of the CALT algorithm, high motivation of the test takers, immediate score reporting and test results management. CALT is a qualitative and effective tool to determine test takers’ foreign language proficiency level in accordance with NATO STANAG 6001 requirements within the NATO Defence Educational Enhancement Programme. CALT acquires a special value and relevance in the context of the global COVID 19 pandemic

The article presents the essence of the following concepts such as: test, standardized language test NATO «STANAG 6001». The authors show that the validity and reliability are key criteria for language tests development. According to the analysis of scientific literature, recommendations for providing validity and reliability of NATO «STANAG 6001» language tests are given in the article.Статья раскрывает основные вопросы обеспечения валидности и надежности стандартизированных речевых тестов согласно требованиям стандартов НАТО «STANAG 6001». No full textLas organizaciones se encuentran inmersas en entornos dinámicos y altamente competitivos producto de la globalización, haciendo al cliente cada vez más exigente y llevando a las organizaciones a ser más competitivas para permanecer en el mercado. Contar con un sistema de gestión supone ventajas hacia el interior de la organización, además de permitirle cumplir con los requisitos legales y de sus clientes y aliados. Se realizó una investigación de tipo cuantitativa mixta con preponderancia CUAN-cual, que planteó como objetivo general, diseñar una “Guía metodológica para implementar la Norma Técnica Colombiana 6001 versión 2017” en micro y pequeñas empresas (Mypes) colombianas. Se diseñó la “Matriz de diagnóstico NTC 6001:2017” y mediante acompañamiento a la alta gerencia de tres Mypes participantes, se obtienen resultados consolidados para evidenciar tendencias en el cumplimiento de requisitos frente a la NTC 6001:2017. A partir de la fase diagnóstica, se diseña y construye la “Guía metodológica para la implementación de la NTC 6001:2017”, herramienta desarrollada en versión Excel, que contiene un tutorial, explicaciones, herramientas de apoyo y hoja de resultados, orientados a que las organizaciones puedan revisar la aplicabilidad de los requisitos considerados en la NTC 6001:2017. Finalmente, se diseñó y aplicó el “Cuestionario de validación de contenido para la guía de implementación NTC 6001:2017”; se contó con la participación de cinco expertos encontrando que la guía satisface los criterios de: suficiencia, coherencia, relevancia y claridad, que permiten su aplicabilidad en micro y pequeñas empresas (Mypes) colombianas.Organizations are immersed in dynamic and highly competitive environments as a result of globalization, making customers increasingly demanding and leading organizations to be more competitive to remain in the market. From the diagnostic phase, the “Methodological guide for the implementation of the NTC 6001: 2017” is designed and built, a tool developed in Excel version, which contains a tutorial, explanations, support tools and results sheet, aimed at Organizations can review the applicability of the requirements considered in NTC 6001: 2017.
