Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Ethical Conviction as Resource of Justice : Basic Structure of Social Thought in Late Ricœur.
Paul Ricœur formulates his ethical goal as follows: aim for a good life, with and for others, in good institutions. This goal is formed mainly by his concept of “justice”, which Ricœur demonstrates through his interpretation of Rawls’ A Theory of Justice. In Rawls’ A Theory of Justice, Ricœur finds an implicit “ethical conviction”. Without this conviction, the procedural justice would be empty. Ricœur interprets this ethical conviction that he finds in Rawls as the basic structure underlying Ricœur’s own conceptof justice.departmental bulletin pape
Data report: early Pleistocene calcareous nannofossils, IODP Expedition 339, Site U1387
We present a revision and refinement of semiquantitative analyses of calcareous nannofossil assemblages in early Pleistocene
samples from Holes U1387A and U1387C recovered toward the
eastern end of the Faro Drift (36°48.3210N, 7°43.1321W) during
Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 339, Mediterranean Outflow (November 2011–January 2012). The record is characterized by intervals very rich in calcareous nannofossils that
are in general moderately to well preserved. On the other hand,
the record contains an interval directly above the youngest dolomite layer in Section 339-U1387C-19R-4 (~0.7 m) where no coccoliths were preserved. The new stratigraphic constraints of
events such as the lowest occurrence (LO) of large Gephyrocapsa,
the highest occurrence (HO) of Calcidiscus macintyrei (1.66 Ma),
the LO of medium-sized Gephyrocapsa group, and the HO of Discoaster brouweri (1.95 Ma) allow better interpretation of the isotope stratigraphy applied to this interval.FCT Portugal projects CCMAR:UID/Multi/04326/2019info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Tailgut cyst. Case report
Tailgut cyst is a rare congenital presacral lesion with specific histological features, of mixed stratified and cylindriform ciliated epithelia which allow a clear differential diagnosis with other developmental lesions located in the pelvis. Often asymptomatic, the cyst can determine compression on the surrounding organs, infection or bleeding. The case reported is a 52-year-old man with history of previous interventions for recurrent cystic teratoma. Palpable mass at digital rectal examination was evident with clinical features of external compression. Ultrasounds revealed a 10 cm large cystic retrorectal lesion which was as well confirmed by MR. Endoscopy showed a compression on the posterior aspect of the rectum, with no signs of primary rectal involvement. Increased CA 19.9 and CA125 were observed. Surgery was carried out with open "en bloc" resection of the retrorectal mass. Histology showed typical double epithelium supporting the diagnosis of tailgut cyst. Ultrasounds followed by MR or CT are the main diagnostic methods. Although rare, a possible malignant transformation within the cyst has been reported, for this reason and for symptoms control, surgery is often indicated. In common experience nerve sparing technique through an anterior approach is a demanding but safe procedure with low recurrence rate
Participant 339 Community Conversations Interview
In this interview, Participant 339 shares about navigating the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of a small business owner. The participant, who operates a yoga studio from their home, talks about challenges they faced moving the classes online after the COVID-19 pandemic. They admit they have lost students in this transition because remote classes lack the personal interaction many people are looking for when signing up for a yoga class.New Jersey Department of Healt

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
On the masses and evolutionary status of the black hole binary GX 339-4: a twin system of XTE J1550-564?
We apply the K-correction to the black hole low-mass X-ray binary (LMXB) GX 339-4 which implies MX? 6 M? by only assuming that the companion is more massive than ?0.17 M?, the lower limit allowed by applying a ‘stripped-giant’ model. This evolutionary model successfully reproduces the observed properties of the system. We obtain a maximum mass for the companion of M2? 1.1 M? and an upper limit to the mass ratio of q(=M2/MX) ? 0.125. The high X-ray activity displayed by the source suggests a relatively large mass transfer rate which, according to the model, results in M2? 0.3 M? and MX? 7 M?. We have also applied this scenario to the black hole binary XTE J1550-564, which has a similar orbital period but the donor is detected spectroscopically. The model successfully reproduces the observed stellar parameter
