Davis, Anne Pence, 1901-1983 (SC 3357)
Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 3357. Letters and cards to WKU faculty member Frances Richards from author and alumna Anne Pence Davis, Wichita Falls, Texas. She writes of her enjoyment of a 1962 visit to WKU, and in 1976 recounts recent activities and asks Richards’ help in preparing a program on Kentucky poets for the Kentucky Club of Dallas. After the program, she writes to thank Richards, encloses the club invitation, and relates news about her inclusion in volume 3 of the anthology Kentucky in American Letters by Dorothy E. Townsend, and about her gardening
Aspergillus flavus NRRL 3357 sequencing
The purpose of this project is to re-sequence, re-assemble, and re-annotate Aspergillus flavus strain NRRL 3357. The new genome assembly will facilitate the development of high-throughput genetic tools for this important fungus, which causes significant crop loss due to aflatoxin contamination and causes aspergillosis in immunocompromised human patients

Genome comparisons of A. flavus strain AF70 and NRRL 3357.
A) Number of genes identified as unique or shared between strains AF70 and NRRL 3357 (S and L strains, respectively) indicate 94% of genes are shared (orthologous). B) Protein sequences were compared and used to illustrate the hierarchal relationship between strains AF70, NRRL 3357 and closely related species, and indicate that NRRL 3357 (“A_flavus_NRRL3357”) is more closely related to A. oryzae (“A_oryzae_RIB40”) than A. flavus AF70 (“A_flavus 70”). Values on main tree indicate bootstrap values. Values on inset indicate branch length.</p
Aspergillus flavus strain:NRRL 3357 Genome sequencing
Re-sequencing and de novo assembly of Aspergillus flavus NRRL 3357. A hybrid assembly using both Nanopore (minION) and Pacbio (Sequel) sequence data was generated, followed by Arrow polishing with Pacbio data and final error correction using Illumina data and Pilon. The final assembly is gapless and contains eight chromosomes (7/8 are complete from telomere-to-telomere)

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
