The Progenitor of the Peculiar Galaxy NGC 3077
We present a study of the structural properties and metallicity distribution of the nearby peculiar galaxy NGC 3077. Using data from our survey of the M81 Group with the Hyper Suprime-Cam on board the Subaru Telescope, we construct deep color–magnitude diagrams that are used to probe the old red giant branch (RGB) population of NGC 3077. We map these stars out to and beyond the nominal tidal radius, which allows us to derive the structural properties and stellar content of the peripheral regions. We show that NGC 3077 has an extended stellar halo and pronounced “S-shaped” tidal tails that diverge from the radial profile of the inner region. The average metallicity of the old population in NGC 3077 is estimated from individual RGBs to be [M/H] = −0.98 ± 0.26, which decreases with the distance from the galaxy center as [M/H] = −0.17 dex Rh−1 . The metallicity of the S-shaped structure is similar to that of the regions lying at r ∼ 4 × R h ( ∼ 30 kpc), indicating that the stellar constituents of the tidal tails have come from the outer envelope of NGC 3077. These results suggest that this peculiar galaxy was probably a rather normal dwarf elliptical galaxy before the tidal interaction with M81 and M82. We also examine the evidence in our data set for the six recently reported ultrafaint dwarf candidates around NGC 3077. We recover a spatial overdensity of sources coinciding with only one of these
Dust deficiency in the interacting galaxy NGC 3077
Using 70 μm observations taken with the PACS instrument of the Herschel space telescope, the dust content of the nearby and interacting spiral galaxy NGC 3077 has been compared with the dust content of the isolated galaxies such as NGC 2841, NGC 3184 and NGC 3351. The dust content has allowed us to derive dust-to-gas ratios for the four spiral galaxies of our sample. We find that NGC 2841, NGC 3184 and NGC 3351 have dust masses of 6.5-9.1 times; 107 M⊙, which are a factor of ~10 higher than the value found for NGC 3077. This result shows that NGC 3077 is a dust deficient galaxy, as was expected, because this galaxy is affected by tidal interactions with its neighboring galaxies M81 and M82. NGC 3077 reveals a dust-to-gas ratio of 17.5%, much higher than the average ratio of 1.8% of the isolated galaxies, evidencing that NGC 3077 is also deficient in H2 + HI gas. Therefore, it seems that, in this galaxy, gas has been stripped more efficiently than dust.</p

Abstract 3077: LARP7<i>:</i> Potential novel tumor suppressor gene in gastric cancer
Abstract
Gastric cancer is one of the most deadly of all human tumors. However, little is known about events leading to this deadly disease. We previously reported that the RNA binding protein gene, La ribonucleoprotein domain family, member 7 (LARP7) was frequently subjected to genetic aberration in gastric cancers. LARP7 stabilizes the noncoding 7sk small nuclear RNA (7sk), and both LARP7 and 7sk compose 7sk snRNP that negatively regulates the positive transcription elongation factor b (P-TEFb). Hyperactive P-TEFb has been associated with hyper-proliferation and de-differentiation in various tissues. Therefore, the functional loss of LARP7 may contribute to gastric tumorigenesis. In the current study, we evaluated the involvement of LARP7 in human gastric cancer by assessing the LARP7 expression in normal and cancerous gastric tissues as well as by LARP7 knockdown in normal gastric epithelial cells. Methods: LARP7 expression was assessed by real-time quantitative RT-PCR in 30 normal and 25 cancerous gastric tissues. LARP7 knockdown was performed by the specific siRNA transient transfection in an immortalized normal human gastric epithelial cell line, HFE-145. Results: LARP7 mRNA expression was significantly decreased in gastric cancers compare to normal tissues (34.5% reduction, p&lt;0.01). LARP7-targeting siRNA transfection in HFE-145 cells resulted in increased cell proliferation by 23% relative to the control siRNA transfection (p&lt;0.05; measured by WST assay). We also observed a 28% decrease in 7sk quantity in LARP7-targeting siRNA transfectant relative to control siRNA transfectant (p&lt;0.01). Conclusions: LARP7 downregulation is present in primary human gastric cancers and promotes 7sk downregulation as well as cell proliferation of normal gastric epithelial cells in vitro. Taken together, genetic aberrations that downregulate LARP7 may promote gastric tumorigenesis via p-TEFb deregulation. Further studies are warranted to explore the precise anti-tumor mechanisms of LARP7 and its potential role in the clinical care of patients.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

We present a study of two states decaying to Lambda_c^+K^-pi^+ using the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy e^+e^- storage rings. We use an integrated luminosity of 288.5 fb^{-1} collected at the center-of-mass energy sqrt{s} = 10.58 GeV, near the peak of the Upsilon(4S) resonance, plus 27.2 fb^{-1} collected approximately 40 MeV below this energy. We search for the particles Xi_{c}(2980)^+ and Xi_{c}(3077)^+, recently discovered by the Belle Collaboration, in their decays to Lambda_c^+K^-pi^+, where Lambda_c^+rightarrow pK^-pi^+. We find a signal with 7.0 sigma significance for the Xi_c(2980)^+ state with a mass difference with respect to the Lambda_c^+ of (680.6pm1.9pm1.0) MeV/c^2 (first error is statistical and second error is systematic). The measured width for this state is (23.6pm2.8pm1.3) MeV, and the yield is 284pm45pm46 events. We find a signal with 8.6 sigma significance for the Xi_c(3077)^+ state with a mass difference with respect to the Lambda_c^+ of (790.0pm0.7pm0.2) MeV/c^2, a width of (6.2pm1.6pm0.5) MeV, and a yield of 204pm35pm12 events. The Xi_{c}(2980)^+ is found to decay resonantly through the intermediate state Sigma_c(2455)^{++}K^- with 4.9 sigma significance and non-resonantly to Lambda_c^+K^-pi^+ with 4.1 sigma significance. With 5.8 sigma significance, the Xi_c(3077)^+ is found to decay resonantly through Sigma_c(2455)^{++}K^-, and with 4.6 sigma significance, it is found to decay through Sigma_c(2520)^{++}K^-. The significance of the signal for the non-resonant decay Xi_c(3077)^+rightarrow Lambda_c^+K^-pi^+ is 1.4 sigma. These results are preliminary
