No full textLes lettres échangées par Torricelli et Ricci en 1644 ne furent pas imprimées, mais des copies manuscrites en assurèrent rapidement la diffusion dans l’Europe savante du temps. Dès le mois suivant, Mersenne eut connaissance de l’expérience « du vif-argent » par les extraits des deux lettres de Torricelli des 11 et 28 juin 1644 qui lui furent communiqués par François Du Verdus, un élève de Roberval, qui les avait copiés chez Ricci à Rome. Mersenne put donc en faire part très tôt aux savants de son entourage. C’est ainsi que Pascal, bien qu’il fût alors à Rouen, en eut communication, comme il l’expliquera en 1647 dans l’avertissement au lecteur de ses Expériences touchant le vide : l’expérience « ayant été mandée de Rome au R. P. Mersenne Minime à Paris, il la divulgua en France, en l’année 1644, non sans l’admiration de tous les savants et curieux ; par la communication desquels étant devenue fameuse de toutes parts, je l’appris de M. Petit intendant des fortifications, et très versé en toutes les belles lettres, qui l’avait apprise du R. P. Mersenne ».téléchargeabl

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
