Earlier Jacobean writings, 1603-1612
Volume III will contain the full range of Bacon’s non-philosophical writings between 1603 to 1613. It begins with the accession of King James VI of Scotland to the crowns of England and Ireland in March 1603, and it concludes with Bacon’s appointment as Attorney-General in October 1613. The Jacobean project for the Union of the Crowns shaped much of Bacon’s professional life during this period, and a good number of the works in the volume relate to this, including the Brief Discourse Touching the Happy Union of the Kingdoms of England and Scotland (1603); his opening speech on behalf of the crown in Calvin’s Case (1608); his political treatise on Of the True Greatness of Britain (by 1608); and the Certain Considerations Touching the Plantation in Ireland (1609). More generally, the volume documents Bacon’s involvement in the various Parliaments of the period, his work as Solicitor-General (1607–1613), and the enlargement of his Essays for the enlarged second edition that appeared in 1612. Volume III also includes the Commentarius solutus (1608), Bacon’s audit of his affairs following his appointment as clerk of Star Chamber, and his biography of Queen Elizabeth I, In felicem memoriam Elizabethae (1608/9)

It is not possible to affirm that only the author is behind a fictional text. Usually, a lot of agents and determining factors have an important influence in the literary product. This work focuses on the knowing of that union of factors and wishes that could configure the literary identity. Specifically, the particularities of the author, publisher and the person to whom is dedicated the book are analyzed as significant elements in the «Diálogo de la alegría del alma contra el temor de la muerte» (Cuenca, 1612).Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (España)European CommissionDepto. de Literaturas Hispánicas y BibliografíaFac. de FilologíaInstituto Universitario Menéndez PidalTRUEpu
Philosophia practica (1612)
W oparciu o systemy Bartłomieja Keckermanna Anonim sporządził kompendium etyki, ekonomiki i polityki. W ostatniej części zawarł wiele odniesień do specyficznych rozwiązań ustrojowych Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów. Anonim poszukuje tu drogi wspólnej, łączącej republikańską praktykę z nowszymi teoriami polityki o orientacji absolutystycznej (Jean Bodin). The lecture on practical philosophy, which an anonymous scholar from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth delivered in 1612 at the University of Ingolstadt, is one of the oldest sources related to the teaching of this field of knowledge in our region. The anonymous author compiled a compendium of ethics, economics and politics based on the systems of Bartholomeus Keckermann. In the last part, he included many references to specific political solutions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The anonymous author aims to establish a connection between republican practice and more recent theories of politics with an absolutist orientation (Jean Bodin)
