UGC 12732: A Disk Galaxy Lacking High-Velocity Clouds
We used the Very Large Array to obtain high-sensitivity 21cm synthesis images of the disk galaxy UGC 12732. This object did not show high-velocity wings in Arecibo telescope spectra obtained to search for populations of high-velocity clouds in external galaxies
The OB associations of NGC 7217 and UGC 12732
We present the first results in an ongoing project to identify objectively OB associations in galaxies with varying luminosities, morphologies and environments. Our goal is to determine whether the physical characteristics of associations correlate with the properties or environment of the parent galaxy. As these associations are the primary sites of star formation in galaxies, knowledge of their characteristics is essential in understanding how stars form in galaxies. In the closest galaxies, OB associations can be identified as groups of blue stars. In more distant galaxies where individual stars can not be resolved, OB associations traditionally have been identified subjectively by eye, leading to subjective biases in the derived properties of the associations. For this reason we have developed an objective method to identify associations on UBVI images using the mathematical technique of cluster analysis. We have applied this method to NGC 7217, a luminous Sb galaxy, and UGC 12732, a less luminous irregular, and have measured the integrated magnitudes, colors and sizes of candidate OB associations in these galaxies. We identify 89 OB associations in NGC 7217 and 136 OB associations in UGC 12732. The mode of the size distribution in both galaxies agrees with the typical size of OB associations in nearby galaxies of 80-100 pc
APPLICATION OF STANDARDS HRN EN 12732: 2014 FOR THE PREPARATION OF GASES
Tema ovog diplomskog rada je primjena norme HRN EN 12732:2014 pri izradi plinovoda. U radu je opisana namjena plinovoda za transport plina, vrste plinovoda te zaštita plinovoda od korozije. Također je opisana norma za zavarivanje čeličnih cijevi HRN EN 12732:2014 u kojoj se nalaze upute za zavarivanje plinovoda. Detaljno su opisane karakteristike cjevovoda svake linije te TIG postupak zavarivanja kojim je izvedeno prikazano zavarivanje cjevovoda.
U eksperimentalnom dijelu rada provedeno je zavarivanje plinovoda linija A, B i C, te njihovo ispitivanje prema već navedenoj normi. Prema normi provedeno je ispitivanje nerazornim metodama te su rezultati prikazani u radu. Od metoda provedena je vizualna provjera, magnetsko snimanje, rendgensko snimanje i ispitivanje penetrantima te su rezultati ispitivanja prikazani u radu.The theme of this graduate thesis is the application of the standard HRN EN 12732: 2014 in the construction of the gas pipeline. This paper describes the purpose of the gas pipeline for the transport of gas, the type of gas pipeline and the protection of the pipeline from corrosion. Also described is the standard for welding of steel pipes HRN EN 12732: 2014, which contains the instructions for welding the gas pipeline. Detailed description of the characteristics of the pipeline of each line and the TIG welding procedure which shows the welding of the pipeline.
In the experimental part, welding of the pipelines of lines A, B and C was carried out and their testing according to the already mentioned standard. According to the standard the investigation was conducted by irreversible methods and the results are presented in the paper. Visual inspection, magnetic recording, x-ray recording and penetrant testing were performed using the method and the test results are presented in the paper
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Isocoumarin Glucosides from the Scale Insect Fungus <i>Torrubiella tenuis</i> BCC 12732
Three new isocoumarin glucosides (1, 3, and 4), 6,8-dihydroxy-3-methylisocoumarin (2), and 6,8-dihydroxy-3-hydroxymethylisocoumarin (5) were isolated from the scale insect pathogenic fungus Torrubiella tenuis BCC 12732. Structures of these compounds were elucidated using NMR spectroscopic and MS spectrometric analyses. Compound 5 exhibited moderate anti-HSV-1 and antimycobacterial activities with IC50 and MIC values of 50 and 25 μg/mL, respectively
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
