ELOVL2-AS1 suppresses tamoxifen resistance by sponging miR-1233-3p in breast cancer
No full textTamoxifen (Tam) has long been a top treatment option for breast cancer patients, but the challenge of eliminating cancer recurrence remains. Here, we identify a signalling pathway involving ELOVL2, ELOVL2-AS1, and miR-1233-3p, which contributes to drug resistance in Tam-resistant (TamR) breast cancer. ELOVL2-AS1, a long noncoding RNA, was significantly upregulated by its antisense gene, ELOVL2, which is known to be downregulated in TamR cells. Additionally, ELOVL2-AS1 underwent the most hypermethylation in MCF-7/TamR cells. Furthermore, patients with breast cancer who developed TamR during chemotherapy had significantly lower expression of ELOVL2-AS1 compared to those who responded to Tam. Ectopic downregulation of ELOVL2-AS1 by siRNA both stimulated cancer cell growth and deteriorated TamR. We also found that ELOVL2-AS1 sponges miR-1233-3p, which has pro-proliferative activity and elevates TamR, leading to the activation of potential target genes, such as MYEF2, NDST1, and PIK3R1. These findings suggest that ELOVL2-AS1, in association with ELOVL2, may contribute to the suppression of drug resistance by sponging miR-1233-3p in breast cancer.</p
Sea surface temperature record of ODP Site 202-1233
No full textWe present the first high-resolution alkenone-derived sea surface temperature (SST) reconstruction in the southeast Pacific (Ocean Drilling Program Site 1233) covering the major part of the last glacial period and the Holocene. The record shows a clear millennial-scale pattern that is very similar to climate fluctuations observed in Antarctic ice cores, suggesting that the Southern Hemisphere high-latitude climate changes extended into the midlatitudes, involving simultaneous changes in air temperatures over Antarctica, sea ice extent, extension of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current, and westerly atmospheric circulation. A comparison to other midlatitude surface ocean records suggests that this "Antarctic" millennial-scale pattern was probably a hemisphere-wide phenomenon. In addition, we performed SST gradient reconstructions over the complete latitudinal range of the Pacific Eastern Boundary Current System for different time intervals during the last 70 kyr. The main results suggest an equatorward displaced subtropical gyre circulation during marine isotope stages 2 and 4

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
