    Supplier’s Past Performance Criteria and its Effect on Procurement Performance in County Governments in Kenya

    The major focus of the study is to investigate the supplier selection criteria and its effect on procurement performance in county governments. The specific objective was to examine the effect of supplier’s past performance on procurement performance in county governments. Descriptive research design was applied in the study. The study population was 168 that included professional employees working in the county government departments of Murang’a and Kirinyaga counties. Purposive sampling was preferred in selection of the sample size of 60 respondents who were the heads of the departments. Data collection tool was self-administered questionnaires. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to perform data analysis. The results of the model summary indicated that R2 equals 0.642, thus revealing that 64.2% of the procurement performance in county governments can be attributed to supplier’s past performance. The study concludes that there is a positive strong effect between supplier’s past performance and procurement performance. The study recommends an effective scrutiny on supplier’s past performance before awarding contracts by carrying out due diligence to minimize uncertainties arising from supplier failure to execute complex contracts that require a given level of expertis

    The focus of the study is to investigate the role of public procurement preference schemes in enhancing the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. The general objective of the study was: To investigate the role of public procurement preference schemes in enhancing the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises in Nyamira County, Kenya. The specific objectives included; establishing the role of 30% preference on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, to investigate the role of waiver of bid bond on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, to establish the role of local firm preference on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises and to assess the role of easy access to procurement opportunities registration on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. The study was guided by agency theory. A descriptive research design was applied to the study. The study population included 35700 registered and licensed SMEs, from where a sample of 391 was arrived at by Yamane’s formula. Data collection involved the use of self-administered questionnaires. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to perform data analysis. The results of the model summary indicate that R2 equals 0.498 at a 0.05 significance level, thus revealing that 49.8 % of the SME growth can be accounted for by the public procurement preference scheme. The study concluded that there was a positive influence of public procurement preference schemes on the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises. The study recommended that SMEs may team up with one another under joint bidding in order to get higher chances of preference and also compete with large-sized firms for public procurement opportunities

    Correlation Between Transportation System Development and The Performance of The Manufacturing Sector in Kenya

    This study sought to determine the correlation between transportation system development and the performance of the manufacturing sector in Kenya. This is because; in Kenya contribution of the manufacturing sector to the country’s GDP has been decreasing for the last three years posting 8.4%, 7.9%, and 7.6% in 2019, 2020, and 2021 respectively. The study used primary and secondary data to achieve this objective. Data was collected using a questionnaire, documentary analysis guide, and group interview schedule. The data was sourced from 254 managers of manufacturing firms in Kenya, selected by purposive, stratified, and quota sampling. The data were analyzed using a t-test, one-way ANOVA, regression, and correlation analysis. Descriptive statistics namely mean frequencies, percentages, and standard deviations were also used. Qualitative data was analyzed using themes. The findings revealed that the transport system had a positive significant relationship with the performance of the manufacturing sector in Kenya. The null hypothesis was rejected. The challenges facing manufacturers included high taxation, low demand, and transport issues
