Postmodernism in The Art Concept of Putu Wijaya

    Get PDF
This research will explore the life journey of a prominent Indonesian writer, Putu Wijaya. His life history is traced especially his connetion to  traditionality and modernity, starting from childhood until graduating from high school in Bali, as a student to his graduation in Yogyakarta, then moving to settle and making art in Jakarta. The three places gave him an intense understanding of the traditionalities of Bali, Java, and the Archipelago. At the same time, the three places also provide him with an understanding of modernity. The various forms of traditionality and modernity mingled in Wijaya’s works, traditionalities such as fairy tales, wayang stories, and even mystical things that do not make sense also influence Wijaya\u27s way of thinking. Meanwhile, one of the important modernities that also influenced him since childhood was Indonesian language. The language was chosen and designed based on the modern thinking of linguists Von de Wall, HC Klinkert, and Van Ophuijsen from the Dutch colonial state. Wijaya\u27s mingling of traditionality and modernity allows him to write fluently various things, including the absurd and the absurd. His understanding of himself and his readers who were victims of feudalism and colonialism, made him write literary works to make his readers think more freely. This makes Wijaya\u27s literary works tend to have a postmodernist styl

Destructive Environmental Discourse: An Author\u27s Writing Strategy in Children\u27s Stories

    Get PDF
This article aims to describe the discourse of the destructive environment found in the book Indonesian Children\u27s Stories of Choice and explain the presence of destructive environmental discourses as an author\u27s writing strategy. Environmental discourse is a subject of special attention in studying language related to the environment. This study uses the Ecolinguistic theory of the story we lived by Arran Stibbe. Environment discourse is stories that live in a community environment that influences and even determines one\u27s mind. The environment consists of constructive and descriptive discourse. This study focuses on destructive environmental discourse, i.e., disasters containing information that violates or opposes environmental conservation values. The results of this study indicate that destructive environments are one of the authors\u27 writing strategies for punishing characters in stories that contradict the environmental values of intelligence. In addition, the discourse of environmental destruction is created to be the reason for the presence of the discourses of resistance that are constructive and on the side of the wisdom of the environment. This study concludes that the authors use the environmental disasters as part of the message of the story to be known so as not to be done or followed by readers, especially readers from among children

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

This study aims to explain the forms of errors that include the use of syntactic construction errors in the exposition essay of 11th grade students of Maros 11 Senior High School The method used in this study is a method of reading with note-taking techniques. The source of this research data is an exposition essay of the eleventh grade students of SMA 11 Maros in the academic year of 2017/2018.The research method used is perspective method, which describes a natural state of misuse of syntactic construction in the exposition essay of 11th grade students of 11 Public High Schools. The results showed that the syntactic construction error in the exposition essay in class XI of SMA 11 Maros was in the form of two types of errors, namely the first in the form of error phrases including diction, prepositions, phrase structure, excessive elements, superlative overload, and reciprocal forms. Furthermore, the second mistake in the form of sentence errors is three, namely the error of the subject that is not subject, the error of the sentence that is not predicated, and the mistake of conjunction. The phrase and sentence errors are errors that occur due to omission, addition, misformation, missordering.

Prevention Of Stunting Through Cultural Approaches And Local Wisdom

    Get PDF
This study aims to explain stunting prevention efforts with a cultural approach and local wisdom. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative analysis research, namely with a field study approach (field study) with a deductive model. The results of the study show that the stunting prevention model is not only through the fulfillment of nutrition and nutrition, parenting, and environmental sanitation which are generally explained by health workers. Stunting prevention can be done through a cultural approach and local wisdom. In practice, every place or area must have a culture inherited from ancestors to care for and maintain a healthy body. This distinctive culture is the basis of people's lives to pay attention to the continuity of a healthy life. In addition to culture, there is local wisdom as a way of life in the form of activities that are important to be carried out by local communities in responding to various problems, including preventing stunting in order to achieve a maximum healthy standard of living

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
