Correlatore Prof. Valerio Viviani.This thesis was worked out with the aim of analysing the crime existent in Victorian London where the English author Charles Dickens lived in the 19th century. To reach this goal I examined a short selection of detective articles published in the newspapers founded by Dickens: Household Words (1850-1859) and All The Year Round (1859-1895). I selected four articles full of references to the criminal figures present in London in the 19th century and to precise places of the city which were often related to criminal life as Newgate Prison or The Old Bailey Court

Correlatore Prof. Franco Carlo RicciÈ già possibile dal titolo dell’elaborato, Poesia e Musica: le liriche di Giuseppe Ungaretti nell’interpretazione musicale di Ildebrando Pizzetti, riconoscere i punti salienti e gli aspetti fondamentali che lo hanno determinato.
Infatti, nel lavoro di questi due grandi artisti italiani, poesia e musica hanno un forte legame: Ungaretti ha cercato il ritmo e la musica nella verso; Pizzetti ha espresso un'abilità costante nelle soluzioni d'elaborazione nella parola. La musica per il poeta e la poesia per il musicista hanno determinato un comune campo di sperimentazione che non ha tardato a mostrarsi in un sodalizio artistico.
Il pretesto fu la pubblicazione nel 1933 della raccolta Sentimento del Tempo scritto da Ungaretti. La lettura de La Pietà, una della poesia della raccolta, aveva impressionato così profondamente Pizzetti che, in una lettera ad Ungaretti, così scriveva: “Non so se è la più bella, ma è certamente quella che più mi ha toccato; nasceva in questo modo l'ispirazione e l’idea di metterla in musica, insieme ad un’altra poesia di Ungaretti, Trasfigurazione.
Accanto all'analisi musicale, l'attenzione è stata rivolta alla sovrapposizione tra musica e poesia, in special modo sono state esaminate dettagliatamente, le scelte operate dal compositore, per permettere la rinascita dello spirito del testo attraverso la modulazione sonora.
Per capire profondamente il significato di questo lavoro, si suggerisce di consultare le Appendici al testo stesso e la registrazione allegata, nella quale si possono ascoltare le esecuzioni delle due Liriche.It is already possible from the title of the dissertation, Poesia e Musica: le liriche di Giuseppe Ungaretti nell’interpretazione musicale di Ildebrando Pizzetti, to understand and recognize the most important points which determined it.
In fact, in the work of these two big Italian artists, poetry and music match together: so as Ungaretti searched the rhythm and the music into the line, Pizzetti expressed a firm skill in elaborating solutions into the “word”.
Music for the poet and poetry for the musician came to determine a common field of experimentation which were not to delay to show itself in an artist sodality .
The pretext was the publication in the 1933 of the collection Sentimento del Tempo written by Ungaretti.
The reading of "La Pietà" one of the poetry of the collection, touched so much Pizzetti who in a letter to Ungaretti wrote: «I do not Know if it is the most beautiful but it is the one that touched me most» arising in this way the inspiration to set it to music together with Trasfigurazione (another Ungaretti’s poetry, written some year earlier).
Beside the musical analysis, the attention was also focused on the superimposition of the comparative characteristic between music and poetry. Then, I examined, in detail, the choices made by the composer, in order to allow the revival of the poetries spirit.
To deeply understand the meaning of this work, I suggest looking over the scores enclosed in the dissertation and using the recording attached to a CD.
