Enthe assembly of curiales from Nola honored Pollius Iulius Clementianus, vir perfectissimus, for his countless demonstrations of euergetism towards the entire local community. To celebrate his unceasing activities in favour of the defense and support of the town, some statues were also built of the town districts (regiones) as a tribute to him, already reknowned because of three honorary dedications published in 10th Volume of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, (1255, 1256, 1257). The analysis of the epigraph is an opportunity to trace the social and historical panorama of Nola in the late Antiquity.

Come un'onda: sulla filosofia di Angela Ales Bello = "Like a wave": on the philosophy of Angela Ales Bello

    No full text
This volume is a collective tribute to Italian philosopher Angela Ales Bello, featuring contributions from international scholars. Presented in the Italian Senate on April 30, 2024, it explores contemporary phenomenology through Ales Bello's original hyletic-noetic approach, emphasizing links with Thomism and mysticism. The work is divided into sections on anthropology, metaphysics, pedagogy, gender, and the inner life. Central is the figure of the Maestra-not just a teacher, but a guide fostering a community of thought. The essays reflect Ales Bello's unique balance of academic rigor, interdisciplinary openness, and educational commitment. Her vision renews philosophia perennis for today's world

Numerical methods to predict health-related Metrics. A case of great economic impact: the Body Mass Index

    No full text
Public health represents nowadays one of the major global challenges, es- pecially with regards to the predictive analysis of biometric data. In this framework, Body Mass Index (referred to as BMI) represents one of the most recognized indicators for monitoring, understanding and forecasting the general health of the population. An analysis of BMI could have important social and economic impacts, allowing policy-makers to foster more and more sustainable economic development and to develop preventive strategies (and effective health policies) aimed at promoting social well-being. This contribu- tion proposes the use of computational approaches to model BMI using both traditional statistical methods and AI techniques, namely linear regression, random forest, decision trees and neural networks. In particular, a compara- tive analysis of the predictive performance of the models mentioned above is proposed by discussing the significance of different health-related indicators on BMI. The computational analysis is conducted on a dataset consisting of health parameters of a sample of women in Belgium collected between 2000 and 2001. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of linear and AI-based approaches in predicting BMI and provide valuable information for policy makers interested in quantitative assessment of health parameters and dis- ease prediction to promote strategic choices that can contribute to improving collective well-being and reducing health and economic disparities, generat- ing benefits at both the individual and community levels

Nel salotto della signora von F. Tre novelle di Paul Heyse: Frau von F. (1878), Die schwarze Jakobe (1883) e Ninon (1900)

The article explores the role of the setting and atmosphere that forms the backdrop to the oral narrative act of three framed novellas by Paul Heyse (1830-1914): Frau von F. (1878), Die schwarze Jakobe (1883) and Ninon (1900). Frau von F.’s living room, both in the Swiss hotel (Frau von F.) and in her Berlin home (Die schwarze Jakobe; Ninon), is as an intimate space that facilitates confessions and reflections. The open French window in Frau von F. connects the inside with the outside, thus creating a contrast with the symbolic closure typical of places where confessions of intimate and personal experiences are staged. The lamp with the green lampshade becomes a recurring element, a symbol of intimacy and a narrative guide, encouraging the transition from emotional tension to narration. In Die schwarze Jakobe, Frau von F. recounts the tragic life of the peasant girl Jakobe in an indoor evening setting, a mirror of her introspection. In Ninon, the scene shifts around a tea table, where the university professor narrates the story of the sculptress Ninon, offering a reflection on the female condition between independence and conformism. The three novellas show how the scenic space, with its theatricality gathered in the word, amplifies the emotional dynamics, transforming the act of telling into a ritual of listening and intimate revelation

Le traduzioni italiane dei romanzi di Arkadij e Boris Strugackij. Il difficile destino editoriale di due scrittori non dissidenti

    No full text
From the extensive literary output of Arkadij and Boris Strugakij (the complete works currently published in Russia comprise thirty-three volumes), Italian readers were already conversant with certain titles at the beginning of the 1960s, due to the efforts of the Russian-born journalist and French national Jacques Bergier, who proposed the inclusion of three short stories by the Strugackij brothers in the collection 14 Short Stories of Russian Science Fiction, published by Feltrinelli in 1961. This was followed by a series of novels published in the 1980s. The 1990s saw a paucity of publications by the Strugackij brothers, whereas the 2000s witnessed a resurgence of interest in the literary output of these two Soviet writers. This was evidenced by the appearance of new translations of previously published works and the release of titles that had not previously been available in Italy. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the publication history of Strugackij's novels and short stories in Italy, situated within the cultural context of the period between the 1960s and the 2000s. In particular, the role of translation and the emergence of new literary media will be examined in depth
