Study of Calcium Ethoxide as a New Product for Conservation of Historical Limestone
The combination of multiple physical, chemical and biological factors causes the weathering
of limestone used in the field of cultural heritage. To overcome the limitations of traditional
consolidating products and to meet the requirements of the historical building substrates, during
the European collaborative project NANOMATCH, alkaline earth alkoxides were developed and
studied as consolidating agents for limestone. Among these new products, calcium ethoxide, with the
formula Ca(OEt)2, was chosen for this study and investigated in depth as an alternative consolidating
treatment. It was first characterized through a study of the carbonation process: its kinetics, reaction
pathway and the evaluation of formed mineralogical phases. Subsequently, it was applied on
limestones with different total open porosity to test its performance as a consolidating agent.
The compatibility and the efficiency of the treatment were investigated with a multi-technique
approach and compared with results obtained with a reference product, based on nanolime.
This study indicates that calcium ethoxide shows better results with respect to the reference product,
both in terms of compatibility and consolidation effect
Discovery of 1,5-Diphenylpyrazole-3-Carboxamide Derivatives as Potent, Reversible, and Selective Monoacylglycerol Lipase (MAGL) Inhibitors
Monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL) is a serine hydrolase that plays an important role in the degradation of the endocannabinoid neurotransmitter 2-arachidonoylglycerol, which is implicated in many physiological processes. Beyond the possible utilization of MAGL inhibitors as anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, and anticancer agents, their application has encountered obstacles due to the unwanted effects caused by the irreversible inhibition of this enzyme. The possible application of reversible MAGL inhibitors has only recently been explored, mainly due to the deficiency of known compounds possessing efficient reversible inhibitory activities. In this work, we report a new series of reversible MAGL inhibitors. Among them, compound 26 showed to be a potent MAGL inhibitor (IC50= 0.51 μM, Ki= 412 nM) with a good selectivity versus fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), α/β-hydrolase domain-containing 6 (ABHD6), and 12 (ABHD12). Interestingly, this compound also possesses antiproliferative activities against two different cancer cell lines and relieves the neuropathic hypersensitivity induced in vivo by oxaliplatin
The challenge of publishing research about a never-ending subject for marketing scholars: The country of origin
The country of origin (COO) represents one of the main topics in the marketing literature and a large body of knowledge about it has already been published. This commentary essay tries to explain why it seems to be a never-ending subject for marketing scholars and the reason why the paper we published in this Journal few years ago contributed to the literature and has achieved the Google i-10 high citation-impact ranking. Analysing the effect of COO on a specific factor such as brand associations, the use of a methodology that cope with the critics of some scholars about the overstressed of COO in the past research, and the selection of an emerging market – the Chinese one – as country in which testing the COO have helped our paper to be cited. Based on these elements, some future research topics are also suggested
Ambivalent Mobilities and Survival Strategies of Moroccan and Bangladeshi Families in Italy in Times of Crisis
This article investigates the link between the economic crisis and migrant family reunification with
a focus on mobility strategies of reunited families. Drawing on in-depth interviews with Moroccan
and Bangladeshi families, carried out in the Metropolitan City of Venice, between 2012 and 2016,
the article aims to show the complex process of further separation that reunified families endure
in order to deal with the consequences of the crisis. Family unity does not represent a definitive
and lasting achievement. Rather, it is a status that must be constantly protected in order to fulfil
the requirements imposed by reunification policies. Migrant families must undertake various forms
of mobility to maintain their housing, occupational and economic standards and sometimes may
move to other countries to preserve their unity. In response to the crisis, migrants appropriate
the instruments of citizenship in order to increase their mobility capital and the opportunity to
stay in Europe
Feedback mechanisms between snow and atmospheric mercury: Results and observations from field campaigns on the Antarctic plateau
The Antarctic Plateau snowpack is an important environment for the mercury geochemical cycle. We have extensively characterized and compared the changes in surface snow and atmospheric mercury concentrations that occur at Dome C. Three summer sampling campaigns were conducted between 2013 and 2016.
The three campaigns had different meteorological conditions that significantly affected mercury deposition processes and its abundance in surface snow. In the absence of snow deposition events, the surface mercury concentration remained stable with narrow oscillations, while an increase in precipitation results in a higher mercury variability. The Hg concentrations detected confirm that snowfall can act as a mercury atmospheric scavenger. A high temporal resolution sampling experiment showed that surface concentration changes are connected with the diurnal solar radiation cycle. Mercury in surface snow is highly dynamic and it could decrease by up to 90% within 4/6 h. A negative relationship between surface snow mercury and atmospheric concentrations has been detected suggesting a mutual dynamic exchange between these two environments.
Mercury concentrations were also compared with the Br concentrations in surface and deeper snow, results suggest that Br could have an active role in Hg deposition, particularly when air masses are from coastal areas.
This research presents new information on the presence of Hg in surface and deeper snow layers, improving our understanding of atmospheric Hg deposition to the snow surface and the possible role of re-emission on the atmospheric Hg concentration

Family Networks and Healthy Behaviour: Evidence from Nepal
Models of household decision-making commonly focus on nuclear family members as primary decision-makers. If extended families shape the objectives and constraints of households, then neglecting the role of this network may lead to an incomplete understanding of health seeking behaviour. Understanding the decision-making processes behind care seeking may improve behaviour change interventions, better intervention targeting and support health-related development goals. This paper uses data from a cluster-randomized trial of a participatory learning and action cycle through women’s groups (PLA), to assess the role of extended family networks as a determinant of gains in health knowledge and health practise. We estimate three models along a continuum of health seeking behaviour: one that explores access to PLA groups as a conduit of knowledge, another measuring whether women’s health knowledge improves after exposure to the PLA groups, and a third exploring the determinants of their ability to act on knowledge gained. We find that, in this context, a larger network of family it is not associated with women’s likelihood of attending groups or acquiring new knowledge but a larger network of husband’s family is negatively associated with the ability to act on that knowledge during pregnancy and the post partum period
