University Observatory. A day playing with mathematics
The following article describes a collaborative experience among a group of teachers from various schools to develop a series of games for mathematics education. European Researchers’ Night was an opportunity to present the developed games to students and teachers, as well as to the public.
In recent years, digital communication has brought about significant changes in the editorial plans of public institu¬tions and private companies, even in fields that are firmly anchored to the analog tradition. This study examines, through data and examples, new emerging paradigms based on relational logic and the growing centrality of social media. In particular, a new process of hybridization can be noted: if the most innovative brands now operate as media companies, symmetrically the largest media companies (for example, in journalism) are using marketing tools typical of other fields, that were once seldom employed. The cyclical nature of communication plans is based on the redefinition of several fundamental parameters: in particular, target, KPI, community and advocacy, central elements in this new relational logic
How usable are CAI tools in professional interpreting settings? Insights from a highly technical assignment
The usability of computer-assisted interpreting (CAI) tools has largely been studied in highly controlled conditions. Research in settings that more closely resemble interpreters’ working conditions could provide a deeper understanding of how CAI tools can currently support professional interpreting, particularly in challenging assignments and settings characterised by high complexity. This paper reports on a usability study of the CAI tool SmarTerp conducted during a multilingual meeting at the European Patent Office. Six experienced interpreters worked simultaneously from three remote ‘dummy’ booths (German, English, French). This context involved fast, impromptu speech, a high density of problem triggers, and highly specialised terminology, offering a test of CAI performance under demanding conditions. Data were collected through interpreter observations recorded in digital logs, a post-task usability questionnaire, and focus groups. The findings emphasise the importance of tailoring the automatic speech recognition engine to handle highly technical content, as well as the necessity of providing targeted training to help interpreters integrate CAI tools effectively. The results also point to the value of conducting further research in naturalistic settings to evaluate CAI tools’ usability in addition to (quasi-)experimental studies and guide their ongoing development
I santuari del Veneto preromano: evidenze archeologiche e divinità
In the context of the meeting dedicated to the reflection on Apollo and his attestations in Veneto, the aim is to focus on the substratum of religiosity in the pre-Roman Veneto, as a cultural sphere that could have been predisposed to receive the prerogatives of an ‘Apollonian’ divinity. In order to reconstruct this religious sphere, the main characteristics of the divine figures documented in the pre-Roman Veneto will be outlined, starting with the most ancient manifestations, emphasising the close link between places and names and the prerogatives of the deities that qualify as encoriae. The presence of some specificities of Apollonian character are revealed in particular in the sanctuaries linked to health-giving waters such as Lagole di Calalzo and Montegrotto Terme, probably the most relevant of the Veneto sanctuaries, at least in the memory of Roman Classical Authors
Pamphlet 06. CAMPAGNUZZA: BETWEEN THE VILLAGE AND THE JUNGLE. Vulnerabilities and inclusive spaces in temporary and collective housing
The exhibition presents 10 housing models and 10 game boxes that interpret, through an exercise of serio ludere, the project area of Campagnuzza in Gorizia. This area is located between the Villaggio dell’Esule—a settlement built in the post-war period to house Istrian-Dalmatian refugees—and the wooded area along the banks of the Isonzo River.
At certain times, migrants traveling along the Balkan route have camped along the riverbank, despite being officially accommodated in various reception centers in the area. Many preferred to spend time outdoors here, freely cooking their traditional meals. For this reason, the area has been referred to as the “Jungle of Gorizia,” drawing a parallel with the more well-known Jungle of Calais.
Campagnuzza also bears traces of six houses originally built by the military as emergency shelters for Istrian-Dalmatian exiles, which were later demolished. Within the same plot, there is now an apartment building managed by a social cooperative, providing emergency housing and pathways toward independent living for young adults with disabilities.
This small area—situated between the Villaggio and the Jungle—presents an exceptional concentration of diverse forms of habitation, both temporary and permanent. Some forms of dwelling were initially intended as transitory but later became stabilized. It has housed individuals commonly defined, for various reasons, as vulnerable inhabitants: exiles, migrants, people who, due to economic constraints, cannot access the housing market, and individuals with disabilities.
Students were invited to reflect on the conditions of temporary living, on the different models of dwelling that have emerged in this area over time, and to propose their own collective housing projects. Their designs aim to respond to contemporary needs at multiple scales, as explored within the course —ranging from architectural and urban-scale interventions to that of interior design solutions for individual housing units, extending to the development of architectural and technological details

Dipingere il passaggio. Montaigne e l’oscillazione
The aim we propose in this essay is to start research on an inaugural moment – the Montaigne’s Essays – in which the ontological and ethical status of the human, and its (supposed) metaphysical centrality is questioned. The notion of «nature» that would derive from that statute, in the modern epistemology is conceived in an anthropocentric sense. Montaigne, especially in the “Apology of Raymond Sebond”, represents a significant counterpoint to the objectifying paradigm that is called into question today, the onset of another modernity compared to the one that (starting from the 17th Century) has defined the ethical and epistemological coordinates of relationship between human and non-human. Thus, the question that today questions that paradigm, which claimed to express the rationality and universality of modern knowledge on «human» and «non-human», could find a sharp conceptual tool precisely in Montaigne’s anti-anthropocentric thought
On the Tendency of the Rate of Profit to Fall
Michael Heinrich claims that the law of the tendency of the rate of profit to fall is poorly argued by Marx and has been overvalued by subsequent Marxism, and that it is an element that we can do without. I agree with him, but perhaps the elements on which it is based could be recovered with some heuristic value in a cyclical vision of capitalist development
Domestic Labour and Living Labour
The following discourse seeks to engage with the theoretical framework espoused by Michael Heinrich in his book, with a particular focus on the issue of domestic work and the oppression of women under capitalism. The discussion herein questions the feminist theoretical framework with which Heinrich chooses to engage, and his responses to feminist criticisms regarding the determination of the value of labour power and the defining characteristics of domestic and care work in capitalist systems
