«Nigh-snuggling dark narrow»: the genre of lullaby in the poetry of Elizabeth Mnatsakanova
No full textВ настоящей статье анализиру- ется функционирование жанра колыбельной в поэзии Елизаветы Мнацакановой (1922-2019) - уни- кального неоавангардного автора, совмещающего в своих практиках музыкальный и поэтический языки. Рассматриваются три цикла (≪Колы- бельные Моцарту≫, ≪Колыбельные сморщенным≫ и ≪Колыбельные мертвеньким≫), составляющие первую часть сборника ≪Книга дет- ства≫. В статье показано, как автор взаимодействует с фольклорными, а также авторскими русскими и за- падноевропейскими поэтическими и музыкальными традициями, осмысляя сон как смерть, состояние перехода от бытия к небытию. Кро- ме того внимание уделено способам исполнения текста как музыкаль- ного и конфигурации пространства, создаваемого в анализируемых стихотворных циклах.This article analyzes in detail how the lullaby genre is used by Elizaveta Mnatsakanova (1922-2019), a unique neo-avant-garde author who combines musical and poetic languages in her practices. Three cycles are considered (≪Lullabies to Mozart≫, ≪Lullabies to the wrinkled≫ and ≪Lullabies to the dead≫), which make up the first part of the collection ≪The Book of Childhood≫. The article shows how the author interacts with folklore, as well as the author’s Russian and Western European poetic and musical traditions, interpreting sleep as death, a state of transition from being to non-being. Also, much attention is paid to the ways of performing the text as a musical and the configuration of the space created in the analyzed poetic cycles
Cellular automata inspired learning with Recurrent Neural Networks for Sea Surface Temperature
No full textIn this paper, the predictive performance of a standard Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) applied to sea surface temperature data is evaluated. The novelty of this work is a neighborhood-based scheme for feeding spatiotemporal information into the RNN model. Our approach is compared against another RNN trained on purely temporal sequences and on an average baseline. Results demonstrate that incorporating spatial neighborhoods improves predictive performance, highlighting the relevance of this strategy for forecasting oceanographic variables from reanalysis datasetsIn questo articolo, viene valutata la performance predittiva di una rete neurale ricorrente (RNN) standard applicata ai dati di temperatura superficiale del mare. La novità di questo lavoro è uno schema basato sui quartieri per l'inserimento di informazioni spaziotemporali nel modello RNN. Il nostro approccio viene confrontato con un'altra RNN addestrata su sequenze puramente temporali e su una baseline media. I risultati dimostrano che l'incorporazione dei quartieri spaziali migliora la performance predittiva, evidenziando la rilevanza di questa strategia per la previsione di variabili oceanografiche da set di dati di rianalisi

No full text«Tremenda è la guerra; e la si subisce solamente come una durissima prova per l’elevazione dello spirito», ha affermato Giani Stuparich nei primi anni Venti, rivolto agli alunni della sua scuola; e, toccando il tema dei volontari della Grande Guerra, dei quali aveva condiviso la scelta e il destino: «la morte vi ispiri la vita, la guerra vi ispiri la pace». Di quel quinquennio tremendo che, nel modo più brutale, aprì le porte alla Modernità, questo libro vuol portare testimonianza, lasciando la parola agli scrittori e ai poeti che vissero la guerra in grigioverde e in essa seppero trovare la propria voce; ciascuno con i suoi ideali, l’ampio ventaglio delle motivazioni, la sua irripetibile capacità di sguardo. Una scelta che aggruppa molto fra ciò che di meglio venne scritto avendo negli occhi il fuoco delle vampe e nelle orecchie le grida dei caduti. Quasi con un’ombra di rammarico per aver condiviso, in un arco d’anni pesante come un secolo, qualche scheggia dei sentimenti cattivi della «generazione della mitragliatrice rabbiosa», Piero Calamandrei – scrive nel 1921 – si indirizza anch’egli ai giovani, che noi vorremmo lettori di queste pagine, con parole che nulla hanno perso della loro intensità: «fate ora, o ragazzi, che le vostre generazioni siano le generazioni dell’amore, le generazioni del libro e dell’aratro, pacifico livellatore dei campi dove noi sapemmo soltanto scavare interminabili trincee»
Extending Building Life Cycles: Flexible and Adaptable Solutions for Energy Efficiency and Circularity
No full textThe research on Design for Adaptability (DfA), Design for Flexibility (DfF), and Design for Change (DfC), developed with Carlo Antonio Stival and Paola Limoncin within THE Research Topic RT 2 of iNEST Spoke 4, addresses two complementary areas. The first explores new materials and innovative technologies, including digital applications, with the aim of reducing material intensity. The second is methodological and design-oriented, investigating case studies of interventions on existing buildings. Together, these approaches seek to ensure adaptability, flexibility, and transformability of the built environment. The work develops along several axes, assessing the innovation value of solutions against circularity, energy efficiency, and reduction of the supply chain’s ecological footprint. This multidimensional framework enables a more balanced understanding of the state of the art, avoiding strategies that privilege a single performance criterion at the expense of others. As a result, technological solutions are evaluated qualitatively across multiple concurrent parameters.La ricerca su Design for Adaptability (DfA), Design for Flexibility (DfF) e Design for Change (DfC), sviluppata con Carlo Antonio Stival e Paola Limoncin nell'ambito del RT 2 di Spoke 4 iNest, affronta due aree complementari. La prima esplora nuovi materiali e tecnologie innovative, incluse le applicazioni digitali, con l'obiettivo di ridurre l'intensità dei materiali. La seconda è metodologica e orientata alla progettazione, indagando casi studio di interventi su edifici esistenti. Insieme, questi approcci mirano a garantire adattabilità, flessibilità e trasformabilità dell'ambiente costruito. Il lavoro si sviluppa lungo diversi assi, valutando il valore innovativo delle soluzioni in termini di circolarità, efficienza energetica e riduzione dell'impronta ecologica della filiera. Questo quadro multidimensionale consente una comprensione più equilibrata dello stato dell'arte, evitando strategie che privilegiano un singolo criterio prestazionale a scapito di altri. “I See with Two Languages”. On the Role of Language in E. Sokolova’s Poetry

Лингвистический дуализм влечет за собой двойственность восприя- тия, а также оппозицию между куль- турами, навязанной извне (русской) и исконной. Это и приводит к дефи- ниции собственного культурного и индивидуального пространства, проявляющегося в разомнкнутом виде. Кроме того, анализ стремится к выявлению имплицитных раз- мышлений об истории коми народа и себя-автора как его представи- теля и, в конечном итоге, мыслей о несовместимости современности с видением и миропониманием представителей коренной культуры.Through E. Sokolova’s poetry, this article analyses the role and the meaning of Russian-Komi bilingual writing, as one of the instruments to see and read reality. Language dualism leads to the bifurcation of the perception and to the definition of such opposition, as culture, imposed from the outside (Russian) vs culture of the natives. As a cause, this forms a differentiated cultural space of the poet’s own. This point of view on the one hand throws light on implicit reflections on the history of Komi people and of the poet herself ’s, since she is a member of this community, and on the other hand suggests the incompatibility of contemporaneity with the conception of the world around, typical for native Komi people

No full textIl contributo presenta il primo abbozzo di una storia dell’epistola poetica (metrica e prosimetrica) nella letteratura latina della tarda antichità, basato su un catalogo di 195 testi dal IV al VII secolo, da Rufo Festo Avienio a Giuliano di Toledo. Dopo un’introduzione all’argomento (§1), una panoramica degli autori e dei testi presi in esame (§2) e una descrizione dei criteri di definizione del corpus (§3), l’articolo si sofferma sulle finalità comunicative dell’epistola in versi (§4) e sugli aspetti che la caratterizzano, al di là degli intenti letterari, come una ‘reale’ forma di corrispondenza in seno alle élites socio-culturali degli ultimi secoli della romanità (§5).The paper offers a first draft of a history of the poetic (i.e. metrical and prosimetric) epistle in Latin literature of Late Antiquity, based on a catalogue of 195 texts from the 4th to 7th centuries CE, from Rufus Festus Avienius to Julian of Toledo. After an introduction to the topic (§1), an overview of the authors and texts examined (§2), and a description of the criteria for defining the corpus (§3), the paper focuses on the communicative purposes of the verse epistle (§4), and the aspects that characterise it as a ‘real’ form of written exchange within the socio-cultural elites in the last centuries of Roman civilisation (§5)

No full textIn Ontology and Oppression, Katharine Jenkins elabora i concetti di ingiustizia ontologica e oppressione ontologica, proponendo una teoria pluralista e realista dei social kinds che mostra come categorie quali genere e razza possano avere effetti sia oppressivi sia emancipatori. Distinguendo tra kinds egemonici, interpersonali e identitari, l’autrice chiarisce il funzionamento delle categorie in differenti contesti sociali. Nella mia lettura critica, metto in evidenza punti di forza e possibili limiti di questo impianto teorico, soffermandomi in particolare sulla tenuta della distinzione tra ingiustizia e oppressione e sul ruolo normativo attribuito all’identità.Katharine Jenkins’ Ontology and Oppression develops the concepts of ontic injustice and ontic oppression, offering a pluralist and realist framework for understanding how social kinds – particularly gender and race – can generate both oppressive and emancipatory effects. Through the distinction between hegemonic, interpersonal, and identity kinds, Jenkins aims to clarify how categories operate across different social contexts. In my critical review, I assess the strengths and potential limits of this framework, highlighting both its theoretical richness and some conceptual tensions that emerge in distinguishing injustice from oppression and in grounding the normative relevance of identity
Tackling complex sistems. We need non-Galilean science
No full textWhile Galileo studied simple linear systems, modern science attempts to study complex, multi-parameter systems, where the rigid Galilean method just cannot work. The problem is that, while it is obvious that we can measure only what we can measure, that’s not necessarily what we want, or need, to measure. Tests based on “surrogate endpoints” may well be the best we can do in medicine and other fields, but we should understand that the results are not, and cannot be, a source of absolute scientific truth. We need a new scientific method to work on these systems.Mentre Galileo studiava sistemi lineari semplici, la scienza moderna cerca di studiare sistemi complessi e multiparametrici, dove il rigido metodo galileiano non può funzionare. Il problema è che, sebbene sia ovvio che possiamo misurare solo ciò che possia¬mo misurare, non è necessariamente ciò che vogliamo o dobbiamo misurare. L’evento ha esplorato il legame tra benessere psico-fisico e transizione in atto, proponendo soluzioni per città più resilienti. L’intento era di promuovere un approccio responsabile alla mitigazione e all’adattamento. L’iniziativa rientra nel progetto “Let’s change! Il clima sta cambiando. Отмечается, что среди ключевых характеристик пространства можно выделить антиномию и инверсив- ность, а среди основных способов взаимодействия субъекта с ним — наблюдение и мимикрию. Разность форм субъектно-пространственной интеракции формирует такую худо- жественную реальность сборника, в которой сплетается в единый орна- мент физиологичность, метафизика и философская рефлексия о грани- цах и возможности (а порой и необя- зательности) их проницаемости.The article explores the nature of subject-space relations in E. Fanailova’s debut collection “Journey”. The article notes that among the key characteristics of space we can emphasize antinomy and inversion, and among the main ways of interaction of the subject with it — observation and mimicry. The diversity of forms of subject-spatial interaction forms the artistic reality of “Journey”, which weaves together physiological, metaphysical and philosophical reflection on the boundaries and the possibility (and sometimes optional) of their permeability into a single ornament
