Implementing a Systematic Mapping Study on Vessel Commissioning Testing in the Maritime Domain

    No full text
This thesis presents the implementation of a Systematic Mapping Study on testing methods and tools used in vessel commissioning, a critical maritime process that ensures vessels meet operational, safety, and regulatory standards before deployment The study was conducted to systematically explore the landscape of current practices, focusing on the evolution of commissioning practices, testing goals, techniques, testing phases, tools, modeling approaches, and programming languages used in both research and industrial contexts. A taxonomy of testing was developed using the 5W+2H framework and applied to classify findings across the selected studies. The study was guided by seven research questions and involved collecting data from major scientific databases using a predefined search strategy and selection criteria. A structured quality assessment and data extraction process ensures consistency, supported by automated Python scripts to streamline duplicate removal and abstract screening. The findings include trends in publication years, types of studies, commonly used tools and modeling languages, and the application of agile practices and case studies. Furthermore, the study identifies limitations in existing vessel commissioning practices. This thesis provides a structured overview of the current state of testing in vessel commissioning and highlights existing gaps and opportunities for innovation, offering valuable insights to researchers, shipbuilders, and maritime engineers aiming to enhance efficiency, automation, and technological advancement of commissioning practices
